Been playing Left 4 Dead 2. They released the L4D1 campaign Death Toll which is really fun
Also there is new Portal 2 DLC so i've got to cheak that out |
:
Oh wow So, when did Saya jump the moral event horizon for you? |
I knew it. I knew, with your warped little mind, you would have played it.
Probably the part where he had raunchy sex with the slug monster. EDIT: Oh right, wrong character. Damn you Japanese and your syllables. |
I remained sympathetic towards her until the... colourful issue with Yo. Until then she'd just been doing evil out of survival instincts or devotion to Fuminori, but That Event was borne out of some inherent cruelty on her part. Fuminori was a dick from start to finish though. I'm still claiming his being a dick rubbed off on Saya.
Also also MM I know you hate anime etc etc but I have to recommend you read/play Ever17: The Out of Infinity. It's the best vn I've ever played and I reckon you'll like it because it's very sci-fi. Also contains time travel dickery. If you do decide to give it a go though, wikipedia's Detailed Plot section will absolutely ruin it for you. So don't read that. Also give it the benefit of the doubt (It's good, but not incredibly so) until the fifth route where it suddenly becomes one of the most intelligent science fiction stories I've ever read. EDIT: Also the pseudosequel Remember11: The Age of Infinity is nearly as good, and has the most brilliant late plot twist ever, but a much weaker ending. |
Do you think she really loved Fuminori then? I still think of it as part of her survival/reproduction strategy. A loving heart shall bind a willing slave, as they say*.
I was pretty symapthetic to Funimori. For someone living in hell he seemed to be coping pretty well, and anything he does under Saya's influence can't really be blamed on him because it's proven that she's manipulating him. Also, "£$SLPFSJFSJF&(OTWSJ K$&SFKFOS)$?!!!" *Not really. I make these things up on the spot in the off-chance that two hundred years in the future I'll become some kind of oft-quoted philisophical figure. EDIT: Watched the intro. If you want to encourage me, bug-eyed singing teenage girls is not the way to do it. RE-EDIT: :
So yeah, against your wishes I did exactly that, which confirmed my suspicions: I barely found the plot comprehensible in the synopsis, so I'd probably wouldn't be able to make head or tails of it in the game. |
I bought the Final Fantasy IV collection for the PSP. It's as fun as I expected. Further than I've ever been on it now, so I'm fairly confident I'm hooked now.
|
:
But yes, slide tackles are still as fun. People can get injured if your tackler is, say, six foot tall and is built like a deity. |
:
:
But hey, I'm not Strike Witch and I don't play this game. If you don't want to be convinced them I'm not going to try. |
Thank you. I appreciate it. There's a reason I'm not an anime fan and it's because I don't like anime.
EDIT: Wait, wouldn't a laconic synopsis be simpler than the real plot? |
I sat down and started Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands last night. I think I’m a fair way into the plot now, and so far I’d say that the Sands of Time influence is definitely strong—gameplay’s much the same, but at a bit of a faster pace, which actually works quite well I think – makes you feel a bit more like an acrobat.
Not liking some of the “aha the floor fell out from under you, rewind!” bullshit the game likes to pull, but it’s thankfully not all that frequent and you get a decent amount of sand refills anyway. So far the plot and setting just don’t wow me. Coming from the older games (which had some great atmosphere and eerie environments), it feels a little too generic and uninspired; enemy designs in particular feel kitschy, like they came form that other PoP game. Prince himself has his old charm, but without a companion character it feels a little understated. |
:
Also just saying :
What is anime? Was Saya no Uta anime? Was the Death Note live action movie anime? Was that one scene in Kill Bill anime? Seriously. |
Are we going to have a thread saying 'What is anime?' now?
|

Also finished The Forgotten Sands yesterday. Overall I enjoyed it, but the little things that annoy me that I described in my last post still stand. |
Judging by the first two examples WoF gave, though it may be a coincidence, I think he's complaining at me specifically.
As a rule, anime/manga is not my thing. I dislike the art style, and by either coincidence or the nature of the cultural divide, I also dislike pretty much every element of conventional anime/manga stories. The four elements that will occasionally stack to produce something I like are: An altered/unusual art style A compelling story Intriguing characters (And most importantly,) General suitability to my personal taste The fourth feeds back into all the others, since my idea of a compelling character might be radically different to yours. As I just said, by coincidence or whatever it is that shapes a person's personality (you're the psychology student), the things I'm not particularly fond of in stories happen to be the things that seem to come up in every anime that I would recognise as such. I have no doubts whatsoever that you know more about anime than me. However, I know more about what I like than you. That said, I do still have my guilty pleasures. I may be a black-hearted miserable sod, but a 10-year-old Welsh boy being hired as a teacher for a single-sex school for girls six years older than him, in Japan, and also he's secretly a wizard... Well that's just adorable. The long and short of it is, I don't instantly hate all anime. It just tends to count negatively towards my enjoyment of it. If I enjoy an anime or manga, it's because it's managed to appeal to me to a degree that I can forgive/forget about the style. EDIT: And no, the Death Note live action movie was not an anime. The anime was an anime, then they remade it (and by your words half-assedly) into a live-action movie. Hence I was able to enjoy it more without the art style that I PERSONALLY DISLIKE 'getting in the way'. |
Frankly I'm personally offended that you think I just recommened you something with no thought about what you'd like. You offhandedly dismissed it not because you're not a fan of the medium (And believe me, it's very hard to find someone who would accept the vn medium), but, I assume, because you thought I was trying to plug you with something ONII-CHAN KAWAII
Do you honestly think I'd recommened something I, as an anime fan, like? No. I recommended you something that I, as a sci-fi fan like and something I believe you'd like too. For the record, the series is probably the least Japanese I've played (Unless Japanese in your dictionary is a synonym for complex and multi layered) and for the record the game he wrote that got an official western release (Which, to note I've recently picked up and am playing) was released to direct commercial and critical acclaim. So yeah. I may not know what you like as well as you do, but I'd like to think I know something about your tastes as you do make a lot of long posts here, and I don't appreciate my recommendation being dismissed because it looks anime and the thing I advised you not to read is weird and complicated. |
I'm going to start his post with an apology. I'm not entirely sure what for, and some people would argue that that makes it meaningless. As far as I'm concerned, if I've offended someone (without intending to, anyway) that means I screwed up. So Wings, I'm sorry I offended you.
:
Ah, screw it, I've lost faith in my own argument. That seems to happen a lot these days. Maybe I'm learning. Or maybe I'm just going crazy. After I've made all this fuss I've pretty much got to play it, haven't I? Tell you what, I'll play some of it and come back with a more informed opinion. Maybe I'll hate it, maybe not. But either way it gives no reflection on either me or you. *Word. *Cross-armed rap gesture* :
*Light bulb* ... Oh, that's why I'm sorry. This really isn't just a stylistic trick to seem cute, I genuinely just got that. Eyuck, I'm a mess. I'll explain my theory of 'Emotional Lag' some other time. :
You're a better spokesperson for anime than Strike Witch, though. I'll always appreciate that. Still, after these sort of conversations I sometimes begin to doubt that I dislike anime at all, and maybe I'm just being pretentious and difficult... Then Strike Witch posts in Bits 'n' Pieces and I'm back to square one, no less confused but a great deal angrier. So she has her role to play I guess. And now, as a peace offering and a humble sacrifice of my dignity, I will make catface. :3 *Twitch* |
Ugh, could there be a new page already, too much of this visual novel/anime whatever.
|
:
I'm playing Duke Nukem Forever. I like it a lot, but I also have very little good to say about DN3D. DNF is exactly how a modern interpretation of Douk should be. |
*unrelated to the convo... Sorta*
This morning I discovered that Fable III was on special offer on Steam for £10. So I thought "Sure, why not"... And ended up using up half my bandwidth cap for this month. :S Then I also found out that like Bioshock 2, it's integrated with shitty Games for Windows Live and several levels of shitty DRM. But what can you do. As for the game itself, so far I've played 2 hours of it, and it seems to be alright with an interesting story and good graphics and atmosphere - Perhaps the combat is a little mundane, the game holds your hand too much, the menus are too simple, and the voice acting is sometimes a bit off. It doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good as Fable I either, unfortunately (where's my inventory screen? Where's my health bar? How can I use items when I'm either not in combat or buying them? Why must I hold down the use key for 3 seconds whenever I want to open a door?). But other than that it seems to be fun, although I'm not sure if it was worth me using up much of my bandwidth for it. Still it's now on sale on Steam this weekend if others want to try it too. I'd say it's worth £10. |
Anime is japanese cartoons you stupid fuckwits.
Also I'm still playing Starfox. It's fun how all the bosses seem to have personality since they made the voices better. |
Trying to decide what game I should pick up and finish.
I currently have in-progress playthroughs of Warrior Within, Okami, Persona 4, SotC, Borderlands, New Vegas, and a couple other games I’ve barely started. |
You've reminded me actually. I still haven't completed Okami...
|
I'm sorry that this is off topic, but I don't know where else to post this. Can anyone invite me to join the Oddworld Forums steam group?
|
I think you have to PM MeechMunchie to get in.
|
And I'll need your Steam ID.
|
While your at it. I've notist that Max or Darkhoodness aren't memebers yet. :tard:
|
:
Anyways, I've been playing a little Abe's Oddysee on my PS1. Good memories. (I refuse to play the PC version though, because the gamespeak itself is really delayed on it.) |
Cun't Spill.
Yeah. I know i'm a bad speller, It annoys me too. I would go back and change it like usual but you quoted me, so now I can't. |
I played my first CPM duel online yesterday. I lost 48 - 0.
I'm wanting to play Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep quite desperately now. I only know one person with a PSP and I don't know them very well. I'm considering buying a 2nd hand PSP along with the game, only to sell the console back to the shop after finishing it. |
Yeah - I didn't know who to ask in regard to the Steam group. Can I get an invite?
In the mean time I've now been playing about 18 hours of Fable III, and I'm only half-way through the first part of the game. It's obviously that much fun for me, even though it's not the best game in the world by a long stretch. There's a lot to do in it though, and a whole micro-management aspect where you can buy all the buildings in a town and rent them out for a steady profit. Earning money to buy the properties in the first place is repetitive, but somehow I'm finding that fun. And I don't know why. :S Apparently though if you want to win the game while being good AND save the population from a big bad monster, you have to make 3,000,000 gold. One way of doing that is to buy all the shops and houses at the beginning of the game, as soon as they're available, before you have a time limit. Challenge accepted. |
Has anyone here played/own RAGE?
It looks really good. |
It's a classic id shooter. It is not an open-world game. Just bear that in mind.
Also, We have a Steam Group! PM me your Steam ID if you want to join! |
Also?
And it has the best easter eggs ever: |
Everyone must spend at least ten minutes with this playing in another tab, or else I will invisibly embed the soundtrack in my signature. You have been warned.
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/580614 And if you think that's adorable/annoying, play it through to the end. |
Them Easter Eggs are top notch :) Makes me wanna play them games again.
|
:
Couldn't find a video of the English version sorry. |
Rage's are still better.
|
Although I'm playing it right now, I think I'll be turning off Dark Souls for the rest of the night to get over my frustration at not being able to kill the Asylum Dragon. He. Is. A. Cunt.
|
Oh shit, Dark Souls. I already forgot that. Fuck, I want it so bad.
|
I picked up the limited edition version for £33. Epic bargain if you ask me. But Christ is it hard? I defeated the Asylum Dragon and headed off to the next level and attacked one of the NPC's.
He didn't like that and started beating into me with his sword of justice, killing me constantly and because I was just after sitting at a bonfire, I kept respawning and getting epically carved by the twat. So I started a new game. As a pyromancer. It made the first boss easier, but nothing else. |
