I thought the lasers in NnT were actually really cool.
They aren't by any means stupid or anything, they portray the original action yes; but are by far dumbed down compared to the "complex" movements of the watch towers sensors
i can't think of any other way the Greeter's laser sensors could be changed. The original one worked really well.
Perhaps a sort of floodlight design that places a square on the floor in front of the greeter? I tried to illustrate my point here. Please excuse the crudity of the drawing. I didn't have time to build it to scale or paint it.

I think they're just gonna replace Greeters with laser gates from NnT.
That would be stupid. The Greeters were pretty creepy in a way. They would fit the darker tone of Soulstorm pretty well.
Plus as Connel said, they can do a design where the sensor forms a square that runs along the ground. Tbh the watch towers in the stock yards could have done this. I understand the design of the motion sensors on rails but as a game mechanic it's boring.

It would make sense to either keep the original laser beam, or have them shine a spotlight

The issue with the Greeters' laser fields is that they "rotated" around the Greeters. In a 2D space this is somewhat easier to pull off, but if we had Connel's idea of a "floodlight" style laser field (which I actually think is pretty cool) then we'd be constantly seeing the laser field fall off the edges of platforms as it rotates around the Greeter.
Also I agree that laser fields were pretty dumbed down for NnT. The inability for laser fields to overlap made complex puzzles much easier. |
Potentially the laser shuts off and turns back on once the Greeter has turned?

Wait....so is this a remake of Exoddus? I'm a bit confused. Has Lorne answered any questions regarding this? Will it be 2D? Will my beloved Necrum and Slig Barracks be fully realized in glorious HD?
It's gonna be in Unity, so it probably won't be in 2D. It's probably a reimagining of Abe's Exoddus, like New N Tasty
Lorne said "its basically all brand new" in one of his most recent interviews, so I wouldn't expect just the New N Tasty treatment for Exoddus. He said the idea behind New n Tasty was keeping the original script and redoing it with modern technology - He's said (I'm paraphrasing) that Soulstorm will be more like a new script based on the existing plot.
New n Tasty was a remake. SoulStorm is going to be a full reimagining it seems.
If I recall correctly, Abe HD (at the beginning) was also called a "reimagination".
Yeah, but it turned out to be a remake, just not a very faithful one (atmosphere-wise).
A reimagining is what Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is to Silent Hill 1. Hopefully the fact the fact that SH:SM is utter, utter dogshit is completely irrelevant. |
Yes, my point is: Soulstorm could also be a remake.
It could be, but after everything we've seen and Lorne calling it a reimagining I'm assuming it will be a reimagining.
We haven't seen much, if anything, about the actual game so far.
We've seen enough to determine that it is a reimagining.
Lorne himself literally said that they were rewriting the script and just keeping the bits he likes. If you rewrite Hamlet but in Africa with lions then you get The Lion King, they both have the same key points but they're completely different experiences. I think it's undeniable that this is more than just a remake.
Exactly.
I was just saying that so far we've seen no cutscenes, no gameplay, and hardly any music from the game, so it's dumb to assume you know what the game is gonna be. Because it is dumb.
