no I havnt done anything code wise, I wouldnt know where to begin. I have Unity, so I just use it to see what I export works or not. Unity's just the program that my previous coders have used.
wouldnt gamespeak just be a button assignment for each frase? and wouldnt things like slig patrol atterns be just the same as if they were in 2D? I have no idea what Im talking about so ignore me if Im talking out my arse lol. I have no idea how complex it would be to do all those things codewise. |
Gamespeak is indeed as simple as having a system of sending a signal to all entities within a certain radius of the player and having them respond with a certain behavior.
But how does that behavior work? Coding a slig patrol might seem simple enough, but making the slig responding to anything dynamic intelligently would require some good 3D pathfinding that I think is probably a bit beyond an AI novice such as myself. Having characters navigate that extra dimension adds a whole new layer of complexity. Good, dynamic 2D AI is hard enough. I could see what tools Unity gives me to make this easier and I'd certainly give it a go, but it's a big ask for me :p |
hmmm... i didnt think about the response needed from the other characters lol, brains not in gear today
just have a play around with it and do whatever you can, theres no rush really. i just appreciate whatever you can manage, at least then its one step closer to being finished. let me know when u want me to send u that room |
So this is the 3d project ive been watching for acouple years before i joined. I love the work that has been done and the youtibe videos look amazing. I just hope we can see this done :)

Right, time to shamefully bump my thread up again hehe
Well here it is, after one hell of a delay (sorry in advance). Heres the link to my new vid of the stockyards and freefire zone :-D http://youtu.be/DItEEwY48qE thanks nOWtun |
It looks awesome!
|
thanks man
|
Lots of progress... nice.
|
not as much as I would like but it's getting there.
thanks |
Your work made me happy, and you should feel happy.
Congrats, lots of nice progress c: |
Oh, hey. I completely forgot I said I might help out with this. Since saying that, I've been really ill and school has been crazy. Sorry.
Stockyards look good. |
They look incredible! One thing I'd like to say, if you don't mind. Possibly make the sky less "foggy" towards the end so more stars/moons are shown.
Other than that, absolutely fantastic! |
:
hope ya feelin better soon. and thanks. :
and thank you |
This is just awesome ! Continue it's very good work :D

Hey guys, time for me to update this project.
Sorry I dont visit this site much any more, I've been pretty busy with all sorts of stuff this year (I know that a lame excuse) Just uploaded the next vid http://youtu.be/6Zu-0Lv9IN8 this time its Monsaic Lines thanks OWain |
It looks fantastic!
My one piece of criticism, and I don't really like giving it, is in the background of Monsaic lines, somehow the fog doesn't seem right. It seems sort of out of place, but then again, doing an entire solid wall around all of it would probably look strange too, so maybe it's for the better. Either way, I do like the way you've again managed to transfer 2D to 3D. |
This looks pretty nifty. Guess I am somehow noticing this a little late in the game, I normally see Oddworld fan game/remakes early in development. Continue the great work! The only nit pic I had (and it's a small thing) is that the jumping animation looks too slow. Can't wait to see the next part!
|
OK guys the time has finally come. My Oddworld project has come to its end (as promised)
Unfortunately I haven't found myself a programmer for this nor have I managed to learn how to program myself but I have achieved everything I originally set out to do. That was to fully model Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee in 3D and retain each areas atmosphere and gigantic scale. As a reference, the whole land area of Paramonia is about 2km to 3km squared. Anyway here are the links to the final 2 video clips of Paramonia and Scrabania. I would also like to thank everyone that took an interest in my project over the years and a special thank you to everyone that helped with certain aspects, along with everyone's comments and all round nit picking lol Paramonia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dED02...6D389D&index=3 Scrabania http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynokm...6D389D&index=4 Thanks again. nOWtun |
The decision to suspend most of it on narrow plateaus is actually a really good decision. I'm deeply impressed, and congrats on finishing your project!
|
thanks Oddey :-)
|
An awesome homage to Oddworld, Nowtun :) and an admirable dedication!
|
thanks man :-)
really looking forward to new n tasty now and I hope they manage to complete the quintology this time. |
Oh, it is utterly fabulous! Especially Paramonia.
|
lol thanks :-)
