Mr. Bungle 02-25-2015 04:51 AM

The game's supposed to be out now, right? On steam?

Why isn't it giving me the download option?

Holy Sock 02-25-2015 04:53 AM

It's not out until 6pm GMT or something like that

DarkHoodness 02-25-2015 05:03 AM

Yeah, the store page tells you when it will unlock. Shame there's no pre-loading, but anyone complaining about that will forget about it once they finally have the game.

Heh, I'm actually really excited about this. :)

..Had to log in just to say this.. holy shit are you acting like a privileged spoiled baby right now or what with that last sentence. "Console loading times", seriously?

Be happy theyve added leaderboards and all the stuff in the original PS release for speedrunners, Ive seen the way you act in other threads on the forums when it comes to acting like a speedrunner who thinks he should have the game 200% tailored to fit his speedrunning needs, SOLELY because you play the game ultra competitively - and it makes me mad :(

Lol, calm down mate. Im allowed to have an opinion.
No need for such hostility. I want a lot of things. Like to win Lotto. Doesnt mean you should be upset just because im dissapointed they didnt put something in. I just think that if theyre going to mention stuff like "advanced speedrunning techniques" then they shouldnt stop halfway. Ive put a thousand hours in the game. A few more wont kill me, even if Im not gonna like figuring this stuff out.

My opinion. Yours is probably different.

Not denying that you're allowed to have an opinion, just stating my observations on your behaviour and wording making you act like you're entitled as a speedrunner that they add console loading time options that would be completely redundant to anyone playing the game in the end

abe is now! 02-25-2015 06:43 AM

I still can't download it, shit....

OWI_Alex 02-25-2015 06:44 AM

The game loads levels as quick as your hard drive (or SSD) allows it to.

You can, but the current times are RTA. And the in game timers also inaccurate. Not only does the leaderboard times not count milliseconds, they only show your best. Its okay for the any% and 100% categories, but we have a good ending category where you only save 50% of mudokons. Im going to start routing that category in March. We could use the save file times, but they dont show seconds, only hour and minutes.

Also ive had times where the ingame leaderboards just flat out refused to update. Theyre cool for people who like running levels individually, but theyre not great for full runs. And if we ever wanted to submit them to SDA wed have to use SDA timing, which is RTA.

Its okay for me though. Im not gonna be the one to figure it out. Or we could just split the categories, but if we do that then wed have to make more if the other versions have load time differences

Dude, seriously, I'm not a speedrunner of any form and even I know that SDA has rules for timing of various sorts that deal with exactly this type of problem. Timing is done from the moment you gain control till the moment you lose control of the character. Load times influencing your run are thus BS.

Now for fuck sake keep your speedrunning crap in its own topic.

Its not completely redundant to everyone.
In the end it was just me nitpicking. There are other things they could have put in like mod support, but me requesting a feature makes me entitled.

@Havoc. If you time from moment you gain control to moment you lose control, then load times DEFINATELY matter. If the PC version loads even 2 seconds faster, thats at least 2 minutes faster than the ps4 version. We cant keep that competitive if noones on a fair playing field.

And this never started out on speedrunning. It was me nitpicking about load time variations. I never intended to veer into speedrunning itself. Xavier asked about IGT so I answered.

DarkHoodness 02-25-2015 08:24 AM

Apparently Steam is letting some people install N'n'T (not me yet though, perhaps the servers are busy). It might be worth trying now if you're waiting for it.

SligValet 02-25-2015 08:27 AM

Installing now :D omigodomigodomigod I've been waiting for this day since they announced it was "Abe HD".. hnnnnnnnnnngggg

Nath 02-25-2015 08:28 AM

I'm downloading it now...

Nepsotic 02-25-2015 08:30 AM

Why can't I download it yet ;_;

DarkHoodness 02-25-2015 08:35 AM

Restarting Steam didn't help, I had to restart my entire computer to get it to work - Try that if you can't download it yet. 4.7 GB download. :)

Slow internet is slow.

Nepsotic 02-25-2015 08:36 AM

Ditto.

E: You think yours is bad? I bridged two connections; my 4G from my phone (broadcasting as WiFi) and my shitty Plus Net broadband via ethernet. Two connections and look at my DL speed http://puu.sh/gchPX/366b9eface.png

DarkHoodness 02-25-2015 08:57 AM

That is kinda slow, but if it makes you feel better I have both router and phone line problems, so keep being disconnected every few minutes. :P

Oh well, been waiting years, so what's a few hours more?

I did that and still nothing Q.Q I was hoping to download it while I went out today.

EDIT: I literally stared at it for a bit and the install button popped up suddenly before my eyes. It was kinda magical.

leocrow 02-25-2015 09:31 AM

40 minutes left for my download to finish, hurray!

STM 02-25-2015 09:39 AM

Lolol my laptop is literally too shit to run it. I get about 5 fps.

Brb crying.

ZuZu 02-25-2015 09:43 AM

downloading it now, couldn't possibly be anymore excited.

TheMooseLord 02-25-2015 10:13 AM

Can i just say, love the game.

My only problem is that i didnt know how much the death jingle meant to me until it had gone :(
Also when you run sligs off ledges they lose all horizontal momentum and fall straight down instead of in an arc

SoulStorm64 02-25-2015 11:05 AM

Welp i found a glitch in the pc version, it seems that when you are hanging under a slig and pull up and drop in front of him while he shoots you will not get hurt (Now the game needs to be at 60fps for it to work every time)

i recorded a little video that kinda shows how it works, the drop in fps due to Fraps makes it more likely for you to get hit.

Glitch

Varrok 02-25-2015 11:26 AM

I miss sharpshooter sligs already. They knew how to activate flying mines correctly as well.

DarkHoodness 02-25-2015 11:28 AM

Wow it runs really smooth (apart from the FMVs) - Seems I can run it on full graphics settings with my 4 year old rig (3.2 GHz 6 core AMD CPU, Radeon 9870 1GB VRAM, 8GB RAM) as well, and it only taxes it about as much as Team Fortress 2 does, apparently (not much at all).

I spent this afternoon replaying the original AO and N'n'T handles differently of course - Not that it's a bad thing, just gotta get used to it. But it's really nice how you can rebind all the keys to the original ones. :)

But yeah, I'm pleased as punch, thanks so much, JAW! :)

STM 02-25-2015 11:40 AM

I bought a new laptop to play it. You better be impressed, JAW.

Nepsotic 02-25-2015 11:52 AM

I spent the past year upgrading my PC. Partly to play it, but mainly I want to brag about how awesome my PC is now. Feels goodman. Especially after having a 6 year old craptop for so long.
I'm debating whether or not to play it tomorrow as that's when my awesome new monitor should arrive, at the moment I'm using a massive LCD TV which is a pixelated mess when I sit this close to it.

Does anybody know if NNT supports 21:9 resolutions?

STM 02-25-2015 11:55 AM

I had a friggin amazing laptop for about 11 months and then I spilt pineapple juice all over it and wrote it off. This one has 8gb ram though so if it still can't play games I'll probably go and bomb Dell.

Nepsotic 02-25-2015 12:42 PM

The amount of RAM doesn't really have anything to do with how well it can run games, though. Poor Dell :(

SligValet 02-25-2015 12:47 PM

The cutscenes run really poorly compared to the game running at 60 fps at 1920x1080 maxed out, just got past the secret of sweat, tears and pain in Paramonian Temple and I'm loving it so far.
Monsaic Lines felt so incredibly alive compared to the original and it really felt like I was trodding through a native area untouched by the industrials *even though that was the gist of it in the original too, this time it really hit me home

Yeah I have the same thing, I actually wonder if the cutscenes are prerendered or locked at 30fps? Gameplay is easily a constant 60+ but every cutscene has been roughly 30 for me.

Phylum 02-25-2015 01:07 PM

Fuck I ended up going to bed before it launched and now I have to wait for it to download :(

I heard somewhere that they were prerendered but made within the engine - Perhaps the video codec they used doesn't run too well on low or mid range machines like mine.

It certainly seems to be a common issue judging by the Steam community page.

By the way, how do shadows look to you all? I have them turned up to max, but they still look quite aliased and stuttery. It's mostly noticeable in Monsaic Lines and Paramonia, as they're quite brightly lit areas.

Holy Sock 02-25-2015 03:47 PM

My craptop seems to be a bit too shitty to run the game at 60fps so I'll probably have to wait for the Xbox One version to play. Oh well! Hopefully it's out by the end of March.

leocrow 02-25-2015 04:01 PM

So I've uploaded the first part of my let's play! I had some trouble with the controls (i couldn't figure how to open the trapdoors to the secret areas at the beginning but anyway).
Once it has finished being processed by you tube, it will be published here http://youtu.be/Gt3PRqi_JRk

DarkHoodness 02-25-2015 04:17 PM

I added my positive review to the huge mass of positive reviews.

@Manco - I've not noticed anything unusual with the shadows so far, they look as they should do to me but I have only got as far as Stockyard Escape.

E: Also, this thread has some interesting info on the cutscene framerate issue.

Havoc 02-25-2015 04:55 PM

The game itself looks great to me, very nice and crisp. The cutscenes seems crappy in comparison though. Framerate seems locked at 24ish and the intro cutscene especially is insanely bright (to the point where I couldn't make out the 'Scrab Cakes' poster).

Also the game crashed after about half an hour...

There's one slight disappointment for me, and that is the limitation of key customization. It's still somewhat restricted and currently not possible to make the keyboard layout identical to the original as far as I can tell. And aiming thrown objects still has to be done with either the mouse or separate keys, you can't bind the movement keys to aiming up/down for some reason.

Other than that, great port which I am enjoying immensely once again.

I don't think so as my 16:10 is not supported, it has the black bars at top and bottom.
