Man i love this song. Classic old Pink Floyd happy melody, downright fucking depressing lyrics. This whole album is awesome if you've got it on wax like me :p

MA 04-27-2015 04:35 AM

sorry, i'll stop spamming music now, just this last one.

honestly brings a tear to my eye, so powerful. i don't play it often because i want it to remain emotionally evocative to me and not end up desensitizing myself to it by over-playing it. i still haven't watched the film, but i wholly intend to. absolutely beautiful piece. turn the volume up loud and let it take you.

Dynamithix 05-15-2015 02:28 PM

Lately I've listened to quite a bit of grime, especially Skepta. Really like this type of stuff.

Also, this will be my 2015 summer nights jam.

Mr. Bungle 05-17-2015 08:37 AM

Been really digging some Flying Lotus lately.

Also Portishead

Chill times.

Dynamithix 05-22-2015 10:31 AM

MA 05-24-2015 07:51 AM

there was some fucking good music in The Sopranos. another tune added to my playlist.

Phylum 05-26-2015 04:42 AM

Deep classical music warning

OddjobAbe 05-26-2015 06:47 AM

Phylum, I fucking love that piece. There was once a lull in my interest in Stravinsky, and when I heard that one, it bowled me over yet again and I ended up shoving a bunch more of his stuff onto my mp3 player.
I think it was originally composed as a chorale as a homage to Debussy.

Ebony Concerto is also pretty fucking excellent.

Phylum 05-26-2015 07:16 AM

Not quite true about it originally being a chorale - Stravinsky wrote a chorale for Debussy, which exists in its entirety within the symphony. It's broken up in an episodic from that jumps between the chorale and 3 or 4 other main sections. The entire piece is still dedicated to Debussy, and eventually everything else fades out leaving just the dense harmony of the chorale, but it's interesting to note that the chorale came first (but never published or anything to my knowledge) and was then worked into a larger piece.

OddjobAbe 05-26-2015 08:08 AM

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I had a music teacher who claimed he wrote a few different pieces and then chopped them up and juxtaposed them, forming a bigger piece. Whilst that definitely seems to be what he did when I listen to the piece, his claim that he physically chopped up his manuscript and reassembled it like, in my teacher's own words, a mosaic, is something I have never read or heard elsewhere.

MeechMunchie 05-26-2015 06:13 PM

Hi Bungle

He quotes Nathanael West; she tries her best
But can't find a mouth to grin with
'Cause a tragedy requires
A little greatness to begin with

She carves her sorry epitaph
A carjack fever scrawl
If you only live in movies
Maybe you don't really live at all

Dynamithix 05-28-2015 07:13 AM

what a qt

enchilado 05-30-2015 05:05 AM

loving The Vaccines' new album hard rn

Dynamithix 06-08-2015 10:00 AM

Jamie XX's debut album was really good, one of my favorites of this year so far.

I just recently listened to Clark's self-titled debut album, really enjoyed that too. Seeing him live in August!

MA 06-17-2015 08:57 AM

i've decided to remove that song because for some reason i now dislike it. i must have been in a phase. lol oh my god

Shrykull43 06-17-2015 09:56 PM

Man this had some weird psychedelic concepts....

Varrok 06-17-2015 10:28 PM

My fav Beatles album

Crashpunk 06-18-2015 05:51 AM

Ah yes. I've been listening to Pink Floyd. I had this on when me and my mates had a get together last weekend. It was 4:00AM and it was glorious.

MeechMunchie 06-18-2015 03:07 PM

Guitar migraine

MA 06-19-2015 12:28 PM

i like it, man. nice find. do you genuinely like it though?

MeechMunchie 06-21-2015 07:52 PM

Yeah, since going to art college I'm now of the opinion that Interesting > Tuneful. Best to have both, of course.

OddjobAbe 06-26-2015 05:06 AM

Shitting myself with excitement, I'm off to see Krzysztof Penderecki conduct his own (and Lutosławski's) work tonight and in October. He's my favourite living composer, I always thought he'd die before I got to see him.

MA 06-27-2015 08:17 AM

fucking tunes, man.

Dynamithix 06-27-2015 08:21 AM

Interesting stuff, mixing acoustic with some... trap elements? Their debut LP's out in two days, pretty excited.

Now I have something to play while I'm stumbling around in the dark and looking for my telescope.

Also, this song is pretty good: http://youtu.be/bsKo_LtShsw
Herb Alpert has some splendid tunes.

Varrok 07-07-2015 02:13 PM

Do you know the Beatles version?

It has vocals, so it differs greatly

Vexen 07-07-2015 02:15 PM

I wasn't aware the Beatles ruined my favorite song.

Varrok 07-07-2015 02:15 PM

You're not my friend anymore. STM, come back!

Vexen 07-07-2015 02:24 PM

Damnit, Varock, I thought we had something special... I'm never gonna dance again!

This is a relatively obscure song, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, Varrok.

http://youtu.be/T0N5YblvT1c

Varrok 07-08-2015 11:50 AM

It's... it's okay. Nothing special, nothing bad. Just good

Though I like how she sings "I am bowling" at 0:38. Bowling is cool.

Also, it's from Experiments Lain. I was wondering where I heard that before

OddjobAbe 07-27-2015 03:19 AM

I love this piece. Practically Mingus' answer to a Romantic era symphony, there's so much contrast and drama. I'd implore everyone to listen to the whole thing and play it very loud, although it's unlikely anyone will listen to it for more than a few minutes or without skipping through it. In which case, it's your loss.

Shrykull43 07-31-2015 01:21 PM

Widespread Panic anyone....
