Whether intentional or not, 'New 'n' Tasty' in the general gaming world seems to have ascended from being a subtitle, and is now synonymous with this game alone. I can imagine there'd be a lot of confusion if people started calling the Exoddus remake 'NnT' as well :) |
It's called New n Tasty because it's a phrase from Oddysee which is very relevant to the plot of the game, AND because it indicates the remake is new (and rather tasty). Exoddus would probably be called Soulstorm, or Twice Ze Flavor which is also a cool name, relevant and has the word 'twice' included which indicates it is the second installment.
|
Aye, New 'n' Tasty isn't the brand name. Oddworld is. All gaming sites have advertised this game as New 'n' Tasty. It's what Lorne and Stew call it. It would be too confusing if AE was also called New 'n' Tasty.
|
It would be too confusing for about five minutes. Then people would get over it.
|
But it's not going to get as much traction with a general audience. Advertising "New 'n' Tasty" again in a couple of years isn't going to turn as many heads. More like "didn't that come out years ago?" I imagine a lot of people won't pay as much attention to it than if it was a new title.
I mean in the press it's been "Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty". Abe's Oddysee isn't nearly as ubiquitous. But New 'n' Tasty has always been presented as the name of the game - whilst Oddworld is the brand. It's much better for marketing purposes if the AE title was brand new. You need a title that's distinctly different in order to get the point across that this is a new game, worth your attention and eventually your cash. EDIT: The only way I can see the reusing of New 'n' Tasty working from a marketing standpoint is if the game is advertised as New 'n' Tasty 2. Trying to advertise and market the difference between New 'n' Tasty - Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and New 'n' Tasty - Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus is a bit much. |
It's called New N Tasty so that the old games would have to now be named after me. That's the reason.

That gif is making me laugh far more than I think it should...
|
Haha, gif made me laugh for a good minute, too.
Back on topic: There anymore gameplay videos of NnT from E3? Any more interviews with Lorne Lanning at all? I can't seem to find any when I search youtube, dunno why. |

I think they might of been the best gif response I've ever seen.
And speaking of the names. I really don't want the AE remake to be called New 'n' Tasty as well. New N Tasty is the codename for Mudokon Pops in Rupture Farms so the title needs to reference something in Abe's Exoddus. Twice Ze Flavor and Xtra-Bones are the best so far. |
Thing is, Xtra-Bones makes no sense what so ever.. With Twice Ze Flavour.. Not only does it refer to the Second installment, It also relates to New 'n' Tasty as it also references the sense of taste.. Tasty, Flavour etc. Oddworld: Xtra-Bone sounds like a porno
|
I thought "Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus with X-tra Bone" worked better.
|
I feel X-tra Bone works because it implies that something has been added, or improved. You're getting extra.
|
I agree with Connell.
Just want to know what everyone thinks of the new control scheme? Looks like X + L is for all your jumping needs including climbing up and down ledges. Circle seems to be the crouch button as well. I'm personally fine with the changes. |

If you say twice you've suddenly quantified the improvement. You don't want people to have predefined expectations of how much is improved. Gawd.
|
Oddworld: Twice the Flavor is the best one so far. It just works so well.
However I think the 'Ze' couldn't be used. |

EDIT: Also I made a playlist with all the gameplay videos in one place. |
Not really anything new but here's a GameTrailers interview with Lorne Lanning for Xavier's sake if anything.
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty |
ahhhh they spelled oddysee wrong!

PlayStation Nation mentioned New 'n' Tasty on their latest podcast at 44:40.
Supposed to interview Lorne at E3 but GameSpot messed up their scheduling. So, instead they're going to get a new build of the game "probably in a couple of weeks" and interview Lorne during a livestream. |
Hey, the Scrab theme isn't tied to its jumps anymore!
JAW, I am disappoint. |
I'm really liking the change to the beginning of the game. The sense of urgency and the rather unnerving approach of the two mines.
I can see why some would be disappointed that the quieter opening of the original is gone but I like the way the game is really dropping player into the deep end this time around. |
It adds to the delivery of the story. I mean, he just became wanted, everyone would be losing their shit lol. The original and NnT are 2 separate games now and both hold greatness in their own ways.
I cant wait for this. July 22nd cant come sooner! (but take your time JAW, lol, I know you gotta reach dead lines in the pipe line, but dont rush it.) Do you guys think they will continually update it as we play? i.e. bug fixes and such? |
