Demand them to change it.

I meant it might be offensive in the sense that it's having a jab at a cultures traditions, I don't agree with them personally but I just got the feeling that it might annoy somebody who is part of that culture that's all.

But the person in the image is hilarious and I suppose that's good enough to share :p

But.....the joke comes from within the culture.....so.....I don't see it.

That's assuming that the site is run by Muslim people and not simply one of the general-purpose dating site companies trying to break in to another niche. Which is a trend I've noticed with several of the pseudo-Jewish dating sites that are strangely filled with Asians searching for a root.

Also, it's a Muslim dating site, not an Indian-Muslim dating site. Perhaps Indonesian-Muslims look down on Indian-Muslims and find this sort of imagery amusing - in which case, this would count as plausibly offensive.

STM 12-31-2011 06:04 AM

More likely they would be middle-eastern Muslims, but nevertheless, Muslims across the board, from North Africa to Indonesia, have the concept of arranged marriages. I think you may be right that it's felt most strongly in India, but that is a Hindu concept as well.

Crashpunk 12-31-2011 10:45 AM

Anyway.

Obvious troll is obvious. But that's an interesting way of doing it.

It takes a whole lot of assumptions to get to the offensive level of this then. And at that point we're only offended because we are looking to be offended.

Mac Sirloin 12-31-2011 02:59 PM

Arranged marriages are a very real thing and googly-toothed Indian women are an ever present threat. I just don't see it.

Wings of Fire 12-31-2011 03:04 PM

I guess you could argue it's offensive to ugly women, but then again so am I.

None of which has anything to do with any point whatsoever. Thanks, though.

This is true. I wasn't suggesting that Indian-Muslims should be offended. Just that I'd understand if they were.

STM 01-01-2012 04:16 AM

I know it has nothing to do with your point, I just like to say things.

Crashpunk 01-01-2012 02:35 PM

Twitter has added media mogul Rupert Murdoch to its ranks.

Within three days his @rupertmurdoch account attracted over 45,000 followers.

But reaction to the 80-year-old chairman and chief executive of News Corporation's Twitter presence has been mixed.

In a tweet Rupert Murdoch noted: "I'm getting killed for fooling around here and friends frightened what I may really say."

Among those sending jovial reminders of current controversies, former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott tweeted, "Welcome to Twitter...@rupertmurdoch. I've left you a Happy New Year message on my voicemail!"

The comment referred to the phone-hacking scandal which had resulted in the closure of the News of The World.

Mr Murdoch also threatened to create more problems for himself after tweeting from his tablet computer about the UK's bank holiday: "Maybe Brits have too many holidays for [a] broke country!"
Well.

Crashpunk 01-03-2012 07:38 AM

Why the fuck is he on twitter?

Also Prescott's tweet actually made me laugh.

moxco 01-03-2012 05:27 PM

Does anyone else see it? The sun's wanking.

Pretty much this.

On an equally morbid note, I just found out that the most frequent cause of death in UK males aged 15-34 is suicide.

I guess the UK really is depressing.

You required statistics to tell you that living here is depressing?

that being said the rest of the world seems equally as shit to me

JennyGenesis 01-04-2012 12:37 PM

For those who are a fan of John Carpenter's The Thing

Dynamithix 01-04-2012 12:55 PM

That was awesome.

scrabface 01-04-2012 06:40 PM

I have tried to come up with a plausible explanation of why he looks like a maniac. but maybe he's simply just a maniac.

The statistic is much the same in most of the first world, but I don't see why that's so morbid. I mean, the stats aren't saying that suicide is common, just that it's more common than other causes. Which says to me that we've cured most of the diseases and prevented most of the accidents that affect young people. Which I think is a good thing.

Meanwhile, I love this video:
