I saw probably just short of 12 seconds of Mamma Mia on the television while I put down the remote to scratch my arse and blow my nose. Let me tell you, I have no intention of watching the rest.

MA 01-04-2012 12:24 PM

that's twelve seconds too many.

OddjobAbe 01-04-2012 12:26 PM

To further exacerbate the situation, there was fuck all on the television at all anyway.

Dynamithix 01-04-2012 12:52 PM

I watched Alien today. It's awesome, but I'm still not sure which I prefer more, the first one or Aliens.

MA 01-04-2012 01:04 PM

Alien is my favourite by far. Ian Holm, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, fucking great cast.

Sekto Springs 01-04-2012 01:25 PM

I love the fuck out of Alien, but I don't like Aliens that much.
I always get flock for saying that I love Alien Resurrection. I'm a Juenet fan, what can I say? The first one is still the best of the series though.

I can't wait for Prometheus. Let's hope Ridley Scott doesn't fuck it up.

Wings of Fire 01-04-2012 02:01 PM

I like the tacit acceptence that Alien 3 sucked.

Because it did.

MeechMunchie 01-04-2012 02:27 PM

And yet everyone complains about Alien: Resurrection.

Alien > Aliens > Alien: Resurrection > Alien 3.

Sekto Springs 01-04-2012 04:41 PM

Alien 3 indeed sucked far more than Resurrection.

Mr. Bungle 01-04-2012 04:47 PM

Anyone seen Alien vs Predator: Requiem? That was truly awful.

Sekto Springs 01-04-2012 05:10 PM

The Alien Versus Predator franchise is terrible in general.

One of my biggest gripes as both a fan of the respective franchises and a filmmaker was the ball-achingly poor sound editing in the Versus films. They abandoned the iconic hissing of the Xenomorphs and the unsettling "purring" of the Predators in favor of all of the generic animal squeals/roars that I'm pretty sure have been blacklisted since the late 90's for being overused.

I watched season 1, and am currently watching season 2, of The Micallef Program(me). In my opinion it's the best sketch comedy show ever made.

EDIT: Maybe top two, just behind The D-Generation Late Show. But as an adult I've only seen the Best-Of DVD, so I can't really judge the overall quality of that one.

Someone hasn't seen Portlandia.

Nate 01-04-2012 06:54 PM

Someone's never heard of Portlandia.

Taco 01-04-2012 08:28 PM

The last movie I watched was 'Let the right one in' and I just found it pretty slow and boring overall and I found it really easy to lose track of the different miscelanous characters. Does anyone know if the american remake is any good?

Sekto Springs 01-04-2012 08:53 PM

Considering the only reviews I've heard about the remake were "the original was better", you might want to skip that one.

The remake is very good if you just go in without trying to bridge connections between it, the original or the book. It's a really, really great movie. It's also really wonderfully bloody and violent for a movie with so many kids running around.

Wings of Fire 01-04-2012 10:33 PM

Also Chloe Grace Moretz is a great actress.

OANST 01-05-2012 11:43 AM

Both are great movies, and I almost negrepped Taco for talking shit about it. The original is slightly better, but only very, very slightly.

Mac Sirloin 01-05-2012 02:20 PM

I've been watching The Sopranos intermittently with my Sister. It's a really, really entertaining show. I stumbled in on an episode where Tony has a dream that he covers himself in gasoline, explodes and wakes up to fart loudly and repeatedly while his son grumbles "Whose rippin' those big ones?"
Fuckin' classic.

Doesn't mean that the remake is bad :P

I liked Let Me In. As Mac said it was a glorious bloodbath consisting of a few kids, a couple of adults and a 300 year old girl.

But aside from the violence, the bit of the film that really got me was the developing relationship between Abby and Owen. Touching, really.

I wonder if they still air the episode where they tried to put Tony's mom in a scene despite the actress being dead. They accomplished this by superimposing several not-so-seamless reaction shots and random tidbits of dialogue over a stand-in's face. The result was fucking disturbing, and they've been very adamant about keeping Youtube users from singling-out said scene.

Nemo 01-05-2012 10:56 PM

And holy shit was it good. If you've got a Netflix account, see it.

Shit, I'm really interested in this, its got to be on the internet somewhere.

Sekto Springs 01-06-2012 12:46 AM

It was an internet sensation for a brief time after the episode aired, but Time Warner is ruthless when it comes to unlawful distribution. If you do find it, let me know, it's been forever since I've seen it and it's always good for a laugh.

Dynamithix 01-06-2012 01:10 AM

That just sounds really disturbing.

Mr. Bungle 01-06-2012 07:51 PM

That's why it was an internet sensation. They always are.

I narrowly avoided seeing We Bought a Zoo today.

I would not see that movie. It looks almost as boring as Clash of The Titans.

Worth buying? I saw it in HMV yesterday and I was tempted.

STM 01-07-2012 10:03 AM

Treasure Island on Sky 1. Yes, very good.

Dynamithix 01-07-2012 10:05 AM

Me and my dad watched Eaters, a zombie film from none other than Uwe Boll. It was garbage. I didn't expect anything from it but it was still worse than I expected.

Crashpunk 01-07-2012 03:06 PM

Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Utter maddness is a good way to describe it. It's overly dramatic, very gory, explicit. But by god is it brillent.

On a bad note, I've just found out the main star Andy Whitfield died September last year. Which really puts you in a downer since he was only just becoming a good actor.

STM 01-07-2012 03:23 PM

De ja vu...no wait...facebook. Thank fuck.

If it was cheaply priced, I would say definitely.

Mr. Bungle 01-08-2012 02:00 AM

Watched Taking Woodstock earlier. Very good movie, a great history lesson too (to an extent).

scrabface 01-08-2012 02:37 PM

Wicker Man for the first time

whoa pretty obscure and wicked. normally I can't stand musicals, but this one convinced me, even if there were only some musical elements. also hard to put the film into a genre, a mixture of crime thriller, horror and musical I'd say.

http://wondersinthedark.files.wordpr...pg?w=500&h=279

I was talking about the ORIGINAL film, not nicolas cage

The ending shocked me!

You're a girl.

I mean that the vampire is actually an effeminate boy who was castrated before being made a vampire.

MA 01-10-2012 11:52 AM

i watched the original Wicker Man with my grandparents.

FUCKING AWKWARD
