I know exactly what you mean. But I think because I grew up in the town, I'm extremely biased. And while the disconnection seemed hollow to you, to me, it was something I could easily relate to. It's an odd part of California that I live in, and barring some of the more outrageous snippets, the film was fairly accurate in representing life in the Central Valley.

But I've had a hard on for larry clark/harmony korine films for years. Seeing Gummo on the big screen of a revival theatre when I was a youngster completely blew my mind and started my love of the genre. If it can even be labeled as a genre. I'm rambling.

Mac Sirloin 12-17-2007 06:14 PM

I watched Sin City again recently, and I can't stop thinking that Frank Miller made a mistake killing Marv off, he was a brilliant character.

It's probably my favorite movie now, though, cant wait for the sequel.

Planet Terror was brilliant, as well.

Disgruntled Intern 12-17-2007 08:02 PM

Clive Owen ruined sin city.

He's a monotoned emotionless hack. At first I thought it was character driven, but no, he's equally bad in every other movie.

Planet Terror was like a Troma movie with higher production values and less comedy. Rubbish.

Wait he's like that in other films?

Fail.

Indeed. I spat at him while I was living in LA, but I had a cold, and it was all phlegm, so it fell short.

Kimon 12-24-2007 12:05 PM

Just saw the Golden Compass, it was a waste of time. Made me sick of western fantasy.

Facsimile 12-25-2007 11:53 PM

Yeah my friends asked me to go.
I told them that spending that much money on a movie thats supposed to be shit is not my idea of saving for uni.

Rupture Farms 12-26-2007 12:02 AM

"Bee Movie"

Awful, awful, awful, awful, awful. Awful.

Salamander 12-26-2007 12:33 AM

I saw The Golden Compass today, I actually enjoyed it, despite the fact that I'm going to have to watch the sequels when they come out.

I watched Knocked Up a moment ago, I laughed a lot.

You know, you could just read the books...

OANST 12-26-2007 09:50 AM

I saw No Country For Old Men a couple days ago. If any of you want to actually see a movie by adults for adults (as opposed to generic fantasy like The Golden Compass) then make sure you see this. Best Coen brothers movie I've seen in a while.

I thought of doing that, but I think I'll just watch the movies.

Kyle 12-28-2007 02:17 AM

I just watched The Amityville Horror, and when I finished it was 3:15 AM! LOL!

Yeah, this was quite the opus. My favorites are Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing, but No Country for Old Men certainly gave them a run for their money.

Mac Sirloin 12-28-2007 11:03 AM

Being The literary fag that I am I can't help but criticize Angela's Ashes for missing some of the Key parts of the book, and the bit with the lunar eclipse was fucking stupid, I am sorry but for god's sake.

Disgruntled Intern 12-28-2007 11:06 AM

Being of Irish heritage, I can't help but criticize the blacks for being so lazy.

Wait, what?

I loved the book, but the movie was a turd. Not even a polished turd. Just a big ole' clinker.

I love Barton Fink but I can't say I've ever been a big fan of Miller's Crossing. I always thought that and Raising Arizona were the two Coen brothers movies I could do without.

Leto 12-28-2007 01:37 PM

I liked Raising Arizona!

That being said I think I saw it when I was 7.

OANST 12-28-2007 02:23 PM

It's certainly not a bad movie. I just don't like it as much as their other films.

Disgruntled Intern 12-28-2007 02:28 PM

John Goodman's performance at the climax of Barton Fink still gives me chills to this day.

Raising Arizona was crap.

OANST 12-28-2007 02:32 PM

Goodman is Satan incarnate. I love it.

Mutual Friend 12-28-2007 03:37 PM

Watched the requested-for Christmas pressie The Bourne Ultimatum, a film made by children for adults. That's what it says in the blurb anyway. It was very good, it deserves the high-praise it's been getting, even if it's not exactly my sort of film. Too shallow, like.

Paramite of War 12-28-2007 09:53 PM

Walk Hard was the biggest suprise from the film industry all year. I liked it and would even buy the soundtrack. :)

Arxryl 12-30-2007 09:26 AM

I recently saw I Am Legend and it was pretty good. It was sad at parts, but overall satisfying.

I also saw Hot Rod recently, and I laughed so hard. I thought the Punch dancing scene was uber hilarious.

skillyaslig 12-30-2007 11:11 AM

I saw Hot Fuzz the other day. I found it really amusing, especially when they have that big shoot out at the supermarket with the butchers

Oddey 12-31-2007 09:36 AM

I just saw The Simpsons Movie. It was really funny especially the ending.

What about O Brother Where Art Thou?

Laser 12-31-2007 10:07 AM

i saw The Hogfather today.

Best 4 hours of a film for a long time

What about O Brother Where Art Thou?

Oh, it was nothing short of amazing.

"I don't want fop! I'm a Dapper Dan-Man!"

Best line in the whole movie.

skillyaslig 12-31-2007 02:15 PM

Saw Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix.
Rubbish, I hate movies like that. Curse my parents for dragging me there! It was kinda good in some parts though, like 'boys and girls aren't allowed to be 1 meter of each other' or whatever. Just girls and boys huh? Oh don't give me those looks...:tard: bwhaha. And I saw 'Pathfinder' really gory in some -well most- places, but a good movie all the same.

What about O Brother Where Art Thou?

I've never been able to decide which is the funniest movie ever made, O' Brother Where Art Thou or The Royal Tanenbaums. I just love them both so much.

Never seen Tanenbaums. But O'Brother is beauty and genius

Mac Sirloin 01-02-2008 02:14 PM

I just saw Shoot 'Em Up, I didn't expect anything more than what I got, apart from The scene where Clive Owen is shooting the masked people while having sex with the woman, that was a new one.

I want to see this, I enjoy stupid explodey films. Recommend?

Mac Sirloin 01-02-2008 04:11 PM

Most certainly, makes up for Live Free Or Die Hard's stupid assumption that you can 'hack' anything.

Also tits.

Alcar...

Disgruntled Intern 01-02-2008 06:19 PM

Black people can do whatever they want.

It's called reparations.

Wait. Were there any negroids in that hacking movie?

It doesn't matter. I just realized the Kid that plays the MAC computer in all of those oh-so-funny commercials was in that movie. If anyone knows anything about anything, and by anything I mean hacking anything, it would be the actor that plays the personified version of a Mac.

Duh.

Stupid girl.

Havoc 01-03-2008 03:35 AM

Rewatching Stargate SG-1. Should keep me off the streets for a while.

The Royal Tenenbaums ain't particularly funny, more 'amusing'. I'd even say Life Aquatic and Rushmore are funnier, I'd even say that.

For proper chuckles, Borat - in the cinema - has yet to be beat.

OANST 01-03-2008 02:43 PM

How low brow can you go?
Can you go down low?

McDonalds commercial.

Anyway, Borat was funny but not as funny as RT.
