Mr. Bungle 12-09-2012 03:45 AM

Isn't it time someone made a MGS 5 thread?

Steamer_KING 12-09-2012 06:09 AM

Mr. Bungle 12-09-2012 06:25 AM

Well, I did not see that coming.

Steamer_KING 12-09-2012 06:27 AM

I think nobody did, not even CAPCOM.

Mr. Bungle 12-09-2012 06:28 AM

If it's free I'll probably play it, although I was hoping for a fighter.

Steamer_KING 12-09-2012 06:32 AM

It is free. We'll see how ti goes, maybe they will even do a MXSF version of it.

Crashpunk 12-09-2012 09:21 AM

That looks fricking amazing. :D

Dynamithix 12-10-2012 09:04 AM

I'm going to post this again because they finally put it up on Youtube in very good quality.

Ridg3 12-10-2012 09:44 AM

Seriously, seriously looking forward to this but the new Directors mentioned something about making the game 'more approachable and more understanding' which they weren't too clear about, and I'm scared that they're going to add in difficulty options.

Dynamithix 12-10-2012 11:16 AM

I'm a bit skeptic what they meant by "more straightforward" but none the less I'm super hyped for the game.

I think one of two directors has a lot of experience with Monster Hunter, I'm not one to say if that's a good or a bad thing since I haven't played them.

Vyrien 12-10-2012 11:23 AM

I thought it just meant they'd go through the mechanics in more detail. Something similar was mentioned with regards to Dark Souls 1 and people started stressing out about easy mode when the comments were actually just mistranslated.

OANST 12-14-2012 07:31 AM

New trailer for The Cave.

Mr. Bungle 12-14-2012 08:54 AM

Damn, that's looking pretty fantastic. Might need to get that one.

Ridg3 12-16-2012 10:29 AM

More details about Dark Souls II

Dynamithix 12-16-2012 11:32 AM

I'm extremely hyped, but also skeptic about the game. EpicNameBro's videos about Dark Souls 2 are quite interesting.

Ridg3 12-21-2012 10:04 AM

Dear Dynamithix,

Merry Christmas.

With love,
Ridg3

Mr. Bungle 12-21-2012 10:07 AM

You guys and your difficult video games.

Dynamithix 12-21-2012 11:39 AM

Those were already in the Edge magazine scans, well, almost all of them. A couple new ones. They look very cool indeed. Merry Christmas to you too, baby.

Dynamithix 01-03-2013 07:04 AM

So, GTA V's first radio station was revealed, it's called NightRide FM and will feature music from Kavinsky. Love love love.

MeechMunchie 01-03-2013 09:15 AM

HAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Well, I won't be playing it. It's a console game, Phil. I can't appreciate it. You told me yourself.

Manco 01-03-2013 09:20 AM

Jesus Christ the people in the comments are the most spiteful, self-righteous assholes.

Varrok 01-03-2013 10:47 AM

I won't buy it because it has no real challenge.

The fuck it doesn't. Try solving the codes, and puzzles, motherfucker. I used almost a whole notebook working out the number system, and alphabet, and I still needed help a few times when I hit a brick wall.

Varrok 01-03-2013 10:52 AM

That's because you're dumb *winks*

OANST 01-03-2013 10:55 AM

Oh, yeah. Sorry. I forgot.

Why wouldn't they be? Fish is a self-righteous asshole himself, seems only fair to treat him like one.

That's the main reason I posted it. I love watching people hate things.

And while I won't defend those commenters as individuals, if a former indie dev hero inferred that, say, Xbox users were incapable of appreciating certain kinds of video games, people would go mental. He had this kind of backlash coming.

I don't think that he ever inferred that at all. Phil Fish is a douche, sure. But people get carried away with it, and give meaning to his words that aren't really there. What he's saying is that he made the game as a kind of love letter to the old Saturday morning, sitting in front of your tv with a pad of paper trying to figure out codes, NES days of playing games, and that this is how he would prefer the game to be played. I don't think he ever said that people couldn't appreciate the game if not played that way, but that this is how it would best be played. And seeing as it's his creation, I think it's fair that he gets an opinion on how it would best be played.

[Fez is] a kind of love letter to the old Saturday morning, sitting in front of your tv with a pad of paper trying to figure out codes, NES days of playing games, and this is how he would prefer the game to be played. I don't think he ever said that people couldn't appreciate the game if not played that way, but that this is how it would best be played.

The point that people are objecting to isn't that they can't play the game their own way, it's the idea that "Saturday morning with a pad of paper trying to figure out codes, like the NES days" is a concept that only exists in the minds of console gamers. And it's just not true.

In my family, the battered old PC was the console, to be shared and/or fought over with siblings, clustered around on cushions for a Saturday morning game of Worms or Chase Ace. I wrote out levelling plans for RPGS, and drew out maps of adventure games. Sure, nowadays I could just Google these things, but back then (2001+) I was 6, and only aware of things that had been introduced to me by others.

Now, I may have been a child, but there are plenty of PC gamers older than myself, who are just as eager to relive the days when video games were just fancy toys as any console gamer. People do get up on Saturday mornings in their pyjamas and play PC games. Myself included.

OANST 01-04-2013 10:32 AM

Well, I never said he was right, just that the game was designed with a specific idea in mind, and growing up in the days of the NES, I can see the aesthetic he was going for, having played and completed the game. I just don't think this is one of those scenarios where he was being insulting, but rather that he shot for an aesthetic feeling, and would prefer if people who played it got that feeling from it.
