I can understand Splat's reluctance for just handing over the files of the previous dream to you, BF1. Aji put in tremendeous amount of work in it (some of us contributed too, but Aji still takes the cake), and considering that you've just recently joined OWF and we have no idea who you are, giving you the files wouldn't make much sense.

Try to make your posts a bit more reader-friendly, just to show that you're not deliberately trying to annoy the rest of us with lack of punctuation, capitals and such. I'm sure it'll help.

And never say "I can be trusted". It usually has the opposite effect of what you intend to get.

Splat 11-30-2010 04:17 PM

Ladies and Gentlemen!

Max the Mug has kindly volunteered to have a go at hosting the dream, so hopefully at certain times over the next few days and weeks it will be online and available. We'll let you know how things go, but the best way you have of knowing is just to try!

Log on to furcadia and type

furc://oddworld

into the text bar; this'll create a link that you can click on. Click on it and if the dream is online you'll be sent inside. If it's not then it'll tell you so. Hopefully Max will be able to keep it going for a while and if it's popular with you guys we might see our way to keeping it going.

I would suggest checking it every hour on the hour, because it we're all signing in at roughly the same times there's a better chance of meeting someone inside.

Otherwise, good luck getting on, explore and chat and I hope to see you in the factory soon!

I'd like to give this a try out of curiosity, when I can. I have been oblivious to this until now.

Wil 12-01-2010 01:01 AM

I logged on this morning to find the dream was still up from last night!

OddYouko 12-01-2010 09:35 AM

Awesome news! =P

I just now downloaded Fur again, made a new account and all.
Going to see if I can get into the factory.

Though, because of school and some other junk, I may not always be able to get on.

Xizmik 12-02-2010 07:03 PM

I just recently started to play Furcadia again =P, Ill be sure to come back to play this ;D

AlexFili 12-18-2010 11:20 AM

I just finished downloading Furcadia again. Let's keep the spirit alive!

Wil 12-18-2010 01:43 PM

As I've now gone home for the Christmas period, I will be unable to keep the dream uploaded. I'll be around to bring it back in the new year. If only there were some automated uploading service.

AlexFili 12-18-2010 11:39 PM

Maybe we'll have more luck next year with all this new oddworld stuff coming out.

Yeah, it could use something like that.

I'd try and keep the dream up myself, but I'm not the only one who uses this computer at times.. >_>

@Alex: Yeah, I agree.

Hulaabeo 12-26-2010 02:13 AM

Meh, I don't know. All I heard is that Oddworld is releasing SW to the PS3 and PSP. Nothing new other than the soundtrack...

bigface1 01-22-2011 08:04 PM

Well I did offer.. but I missed this dream again! but I found a little trick

Step 1: upload the dream

Step 2: go onto the dream you uploaded

Step 3: walk away from your computor

im pretty sure this makes your dream on 24/7 and doesen't stop because it worked for me but im still not 100% but please try it! I really would play this dream LOTS lol.. just try please max!

hedjeroo 01-23-2011 03:00 AM

I remember hopping into this dream years ago, back when I frequented Furcadia to chat to people.

As far as keeping the dream up goes, unless DEP have changed a lot of things since I last played, it's as easy as getting someone who can keep their computer online forever to upload it, and use a proxy/bot program to make an anti-idle script (which usually consists of sitting up/down or rotating every so often, or say something in chat). It isn't quite as simple as uploading, going in and leaving it.

I would really love this to be back up again, seeing the work that went into it makes me really appreciate it as a labour of love, moreso than I did when I just made a passing glance of it years ago. The sprites are all great, the rooms look really well designed, and the fact you guys pulled off that scripting really impresses me (I sucked with DragonSpeak xD). It's all a matter of whether many people have the time to be active though; dreams kinda suck for the most part if there's not plenty of people in them.

Also, if work still needs to go into it there's the possibility I could spare a little time, I have a bit of experience working with Furcadia's editing tools. May need to refresh myself a bit, though. I haven't played in a year at least...

bigface1 03-18-2011 06:51 PM

DREAM IS UP HAVE A BLAST! its at Furc://oddworld

Wil 03-29-2011 06:30 AM

I'm trying to keep the dream up as much as I can (it's up now!) so just keep checking to see if you can get on. If it's down when you try, then I'm probably asleep/in uni/at work/studying in the library/visiting Prague, so no use moaning. When I do put it up, I do see quite a few names visiting, including some familiar ones, so do check it out and hang around. :)

Slig_Dude_64 12-06-2011 10:38 AM

Couldn't you say a specific date that you will keep up the dream for the whole day or something?

dripik 12-06-2011 10:55 AM

Couldn't you look at the last post date of a thread before reviving it from the dead?

In other words, the dream is just as dead as this thread - or at least, I'm not aware of it being active. Our priorities have shifted over to other games.

STM 12-06-2011 12:48 PM

^-^ last post was on my birthday!

Wil 12-06-2011 02:40 PM

It was my gift to you.

Crashpunk 12-06-2011 04:48 PM

A dead dream within a dead thread.

hm.

AlexFili 12-07-2011 09:31 AM

After 2-5 months, shouldn't a forum topic become invisible in the first place? That would make more sense really if you don't want really anyone to comment on it (Or maybe post a warning saying that the thread was however months old).

Wil 12-07-2011 09:34 AM

That is what happens, or at least what should happen. I think I either temporarily turned it off for someone and forgot to fix it, or Splat made us deactivate it in Fan Corner. Either way, I'm shaking my fist at him.

Splat 12-07-2011 02:34 PM

It was deactivated in Fan Corner, so as to allow people who haven't been around for a while to resurrect their threads - it was either that, or have me ask an admin every time someone (including myself) wanted to post in a thread more than a month neglected.

I am, however, considering closing this thread unless/until something happens to bring the Dream back. Though I think the Minecraft Server does a very similar job to what this did, and is more popular than this was. It doesn't have all of the same possibilities but it none-the-less does a lot of the same stuff.
I'll give it some thought.

STM 12-08-2011 02:00 AM

Yes but everyone could enter the dream according to my understanding not everyone can enter the Oddworld Minecraft server, ehem, cough. ;)

AlexFili 12-08-2011 03:19 AM

Minecraft however, is a lot more popular than Furcadia. Furcadia is still a very niche audience. There were plenty of issues there such as lag and other issues with the client.

Yeah, well, you kinda shot yourself in the foot there, friend.

STM 12-08-2011 03:58 AM

Yeh I know I know.
