Just watched Don't Look Now. That ending. I already knew what was going to happen, but it still managed to creep the hell out of me.

Nepsotic 06-30-2012 01:22 AM

Don't look now is an amazing film, although I didn't find it very scary.

Mr.Spandexpants 06-30-2012 03:05 AM

So I just watched the entire first season of Doctor Who. It was amazing. I also watched part of David Tenants last episode(s). I feel accomplished.

Crashpunk 06-30-2012 03:25 AM

I didn't really enjoy the last episodes of David Tennant's doctor however he did go out with a bit of style, though the whole thing was a bit of a troll. Falls from a spaceship, lands on some glass, Defeats the Time Lords and the Master only to be defeated by a old guy.

I adore the first season because of Christopher Eccleston. He should of done at least one more season because in my opinion he was one of the best Doctors.

And I'm not watching the current Doctor Who because I really can't stand Amy and Rory. Oh look Rory died again ect. I know some of you will now hate me now.

For what I have seen, The new seasons were okay. I like Matt Smith, he is a pretty good Doctor and his my favorite part of it all. I saw the Episode where they meet the Weeping Angels again and it was pretty enjoyable; Those monsters could make a excellent horror film.

He left because he didn't want to be identified with only one role

Phylum 06-30-2012 03:46 AM

Eccleston did a really great job, but the writing for Tennant's episodes was fabulous. I watched them again recently after the newer seasons and I loved it. The episodes were tense. The Monster of the Week was actually developed and scary if not terrifying. The overarching theme of The Doctor is God was really well done. That doctor was worshiped. At the end of Season 3 he defeated The Master by use of faith, which was a bit silly but well executed. The Waters of Mars really drove that home, just in case it wasn't obvious in the preceding seasons.

The Tennant/Tate series was the best of the new ones, really. They were more entertaining. Even the reasonably rubbish first episode of that season was saved by the way it built to the scene with the window.

MeechMunchie 06-30-2012 06:33 AM

The Guard.

A fantastic Irish black comedy. About corruption, apathy, and a hundred little reflections on life, it's the film Hot Fuzz should have been. The Oirishmen here should try it, I thought it was spectacular. First scene:

Gang of yobs drink-driving, music pounding. They speed past a waiting police car. The police officer silently watches them pass, allowing them to kill themselves in a crash ten seconds later. The police car pulls up; the officer gets out, pockets some LSD from one of the bodies, swallows a square, and gazes across the grey, clouded coast.

[Thick Irish] "What a fuckin' beautiful morning."

Matt is an excellent Doctor, and the writer for the later episodes, Steven Moffat, is really underappreciated, he really brought back the feel of classic Doctor Who,and Matt has a bit of all ten doctors in him. Crashpunk, you really should watch the new series starting later on this year, its amy and rory's last season, yay! And Moffat has confirmed that one of them WILL die. I hope it's River. She's been over used and has no mystery to her whatsoever now, so there's no need for her. She was great in her first few episodes, though, especially the one with David.

Nate 06-30-2012 07:53 PM

It can't be River. We already know when she will die.

Also, if you want to discuss Doctor Who, make a thread about it.

No, because she doesn't actually die in that episode, remember? But you are right, she can'r die yet because that would create a paradox.

Just watched Xmen: First Class. It was...first class! :tard:

Michael Fassbender was really good (even though his accent slipped occasionally) and it was just riveting to watch. So much better than any of the other X Men films.

I agree. It was definitely my favourite film of that year. He's good in Prometheus too.

I'm rewatching some early episodes of Naruto (subbed) with the Chunnin Preliminaries/Finals battles. Very good animation and compelling story. I'm also rewatching Series 1 of Walking Dead. I forgot how good the first episode was. What a prologue.

I just watched The Newsroom, the new show from Aaron Sorkin. Jesus, that man can write a show. I felt tingles when the date came up on the screen and showed that it's set in the past; a very specific past. At that point, I actually thought to myself ''The man's a genius". I pretty much held my breath for the entire newscast.

It was pretty good, yeah. Some of the social interactions felt a bit forced, but that has always been true of Sorkin shows in their first seasons. Also, this is a good vehicle for Sorkin's earnestness. It worked really well on The West Wing (one of my all time favorite shows), but didn't work at all on Sunset Strip. It was hard to take seriously these people making a really bad sketch comedy show being as earnest, and deadly serious as they were. A news program that actually tries to inform the public is a different story, though.

Also, I saw Brave, and really enjoyed it. I liked it a lot more than Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles.

Mr. Bungle 07-02-2012 12:36 PM

The Incredibles and Finding Nemo are two of my favouries. I really gotta see Brave, been meaning to.

In terms of CGI flicks I really dug Wall-E, Ratatouille, Rango and How To Train Your Dragon. I listened to a review of Brave, the reviewers said it was kinda bland and predictable. Looks pretty decent though.

Manco 07-02-2012 03:19 PM

Saw X-Men: First Class. I only ever saw the first two movies (and grew up watching the cartoon from years ago), but I managed to get most of the references and nods to the source material and the canon.

I especially liked the red and purple suit at the end Here’s hoping for a sequel.

OANST 07-02-2012 03:21 PM

Here's hopping for HOO

Varrok 07-02-2012 03:26 PM

HOO

Really? I was going to go see it tonight, but then I saw the reviews. They were so bland that I figured I'd wait for the DVD release.

Daxter King 07-03-2012 01:24 AM

Saw The Amazing Spiderman. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Certainly better than any of the old three Spiderman movies, but I never held them in that high of a regard anyways. Visually I really enjoyed, the city scenes at night, the contrast between the Lizard and Spidey as they fight, and and Spiderman swinging through the city were all wonderful scenes to ingest all the colors. It is a very colorful movie, and I love that. The Lizard worked great as a villain, an area I think most superhero movies seem to lack. It has a good amount of exposition, but I don't remember any scenes that I felt were unnecessary. It also managed to tug at my heart strings in certain scenes more than other superhero movies have done in the past. It's faults are some scenes where the acting just seems a bit off and there are some scenes fully devoted to "3d COMING RIGHT AT YOU!", other than that a superb film. I rank it's quality closest to Iron Man 1, out of superhero movis that I've seen. Iron Man 1 is the best Marvel Studios film IMO, but is ranked lower than Nolan's Batman films for me.

Nepsotic 07-03-2012 07:16 AM

I think the new Batman films are the best superhero movies of all time, but they're completely different to other films. They have a much darker tone, thats why I like them.

I think that people who review "kids'" movies are too used to reviewing them based on action set pieces, and villains. I didn't find it to be boring, or bland at all. If I had to compare it to something, I would say that it's the closest they've come to making a Studio Ghibli-esque movie. And no, not because of the sprites.

Mr. Bungle 07-03-2012 09:08 PM

How is it compared to other Pixar films?

Abe16 07-04-2012 06:32 PM

I have recently seen (500) Days of Summer. Great movie, I really, really enjoyed it. I heard a lot of hype around it so I was afraid that it would be too built up and I wouldn't enjoy it as much. It's a great film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel were great choices I think.

JennyGenesis 07-05-2012 06:54 AM

I gave into friends again and watched "Kevin and Perry Go Large", once again they said how it was a really great movie, but, no, it really wasn't, it was crap, and made no sense. I really can't see how it could be all that difficult to make a feature length version of the Kevin the Teenager sketches.

Stick with the original TV sketches I say.

Crashpunk 07-05-2012 01:18 PM

I too just saw X-men First Class.

I thought it was pretty good even though I've never been really interested in the X-men franchise. Actually makes me wanna go see the rest of them.

I thought the Special effects were good, the part where Magneto stops all the missiles in mid-air and switches them around was pretty awesome. Just bending metal with your mind is just so flipping awesome, I wish I could do that!

MeechMunchie 07-05-2012 01:53 PM

The scene with the coin isn't the sort of thing I expected from a pumped-up superhero movie.

Gwan-Thwei 07-05-2012 04:48 PM

I just saw the Poughkeepsie Tapes and i loved it. You can find the full video on youtube, but unfortunately that's the only way you can watch it. There's no DVD of it for whatever reason.

The movie that was made based on the tapes was so fucking shit. It was a bit creepy, yeah, but so bad.

WAIT WAIT WAIT the tapes were real?

Dynamithix 07-05-2012 06:32 PM

I think so, yeah. A serial killer in some small town videotaped his victims' voices or something.

Gwan-Thwei 07-05-2012 07:30 PM

...well, now i feel like shit. I showed my friend that movie and convinced him it was fake...he didn't sleep for three days because it was his first horror movie...

Ah well. Good for him to man up a bit.

I also saw The Lorax for my little sister's birthday. I didn't like it. Had too much singing.

OANST 07-05-2012 08:39 PM

The tapes are not real. Don't be absurd.

Daxter King 07-05-2012 09:47 PM

OANST is in denial, I know for fact they are real.

After all, I do read Wikipedia.

Dynamithix 07-06-2012 02:30 PM

So I started watching Breaking Bad to see what all the fuzz is about and I just a while ago completed the first season. So far I'm liking it, the pilot episode was really good and I thought the episode where Walt makes the deal with Tuco was pretty intense. Also, Hank is a great character.

Currently downloading the second season and probably will start watching it tonight.

Nepsotic 07-06-2012 09:15 PM

I'm a big Chris Morris fan, and I just watched JAM. What the fuck is happening to me, are you seeing the same thing? Try and watch it all.

What point is this making? Is it supposed to have a really deep meaning like Black Mirror? My brain only has a small amount of RAM and watching this show caused me to force close.

I like it, though!
