I would like to know where you got that. I have never heard it.

There is an image in the 10 Years of Oddworld art book, pg. 228, bottom right pick. Look around and you can see two Gloktigi gaurds among a Glukkon, Maggie herself, and the Kinto slaves she is using for transport.

Xavier 12-10-2006 10:23 AM

I'd say they are body gards of all the important persons from the industrial world.

makes me wonder why molluck doesn't have some

Cullen Heath 12-10-2006 10:33 AM

But it doesn't actually say that they are body guards. They could be there to watch.

Munch's Master 12-10-2006 10:39 AM

You b*****d Xav! That kind of hair is exactly the kind I want, but cannot havre, due to school regulations! Grrrr!!!!
Nate, I don't know whether to take the fact you quoted that comment about me into your sig as a compliment or insult. ;)

And on topic, I'd imagine the Gloktigi are bodyguards indeed, as they're massive muscly things that probably would have little to no other purpose.

I thought that he had the one slig with him... or was he just a kind of servant?

Cullen Heath 12-10-2006 11:27 AM

What he is saying is 'I wonder why Molluck doesn't have some Gloktigi as body guards.'

Arxryl 12-10-2006 11:33 AM

Oh..........
maybe Molluk wanted to be a penny pincher and pay less for a few sligs.

I wouldn't doubt that, at all.

Cullen Heath 12-10-2006 01:31 PM

Yeah, that's probably the case, actually.

Taytay 12-10-2006 02:04 PM

Anybody have any clue about when a new oddworld inhabitants designed game will come out?
Is the other things mentioned such as Squeek, Hand of Odd, and Sligstorm still coming out?

Bullet Magnet 12-10-2006 04:44 PM

Not for a looooong time. They've stopped making games, and have moved on to film. Their current project, Citizen Siege, is not Oddworld related, but if successful, will pave the way for Oddworld movies. They will be written with games in mind, and licensed to other developers (with heavy influence from Lorne) to produce not accompanying games, but complementary games.

Take it as me agreeing with at least half of your sentiment in the Bloopers thread.

And when I posted it I meant it as a sort of complement. Not a put down by any means...

Is abe's ponytail implanted? Or is it just natural hair growing from his head? This has alway puzzled me..

Citizen Siege will be both a movie and a game. So, you answered his question incorrectly. I think he asked when the next game made by Oddworld Inhabitants will be made, and the answer would be around the time the Citizen Siege is released.

His ponytail is actually feathers. Mudokons evolved from birds, and that and the beak-like face are the few traits left.

EDIT: Ahh, double post, sorry!

Arxryl 12-10-2006 07:39 PM

OH... Well that's very interesting. Thank you.

aaj111 12-10-2006 08:54 PM

Hm, I didn't think it was feathers. So that's why their heads and mouths look so similar to a birds.

that could be it... Molluck has some authority on General Dripik, no?
so he could have Sligs for a cheap price :p

Cullen Heath 12-11-2006 05:35 AM

Oh, yeah. Tons of authority over Dripik.
Heh, he probably got them for free.:p

Bullet Magnet 12-11-2006 08:08 AM

Where did this idea that mudokons were descended from birds come from?

Zerox 12-11-2006 08:35 AM

Molluck probably didn't have them because Gloktigi hadn't been introduced into the Oddworld universe yet or thought of.
Maybe Molluck wasn't quite important enough for that protection...the only others we know are Lady Margeret herself and Sekto, who owned a whole river, which I'm sure is worth more than Rupturefarms.

I can't remember where the Mudokon/bird idea came from/ But thinking more about it...that would explain the hand/foot structure quite well, if we look at bird skeletons.

Jordan 12-11-2006 08:44 AM

Also, on the OW games whenever Abe dies a load of birds appear and when you start again in an area he appears from the birds, they must
have something to do with birds

Zerox 12-11-2006 12:21 PM

I presume it was generally just an easy way to have Abe reappear and for the portals.
But I do see your point, it adds to the theory.
Mudokons are also very fragile and break easily, as it were.

Arxryl 12-11-2006 01:24 PM

And Abe is able to lift other mudokons with little effort, and birds are light weight because their bones are somewhat hollow.

Bullet Magnet 12-11-2006 02:53 PM

But just look at his muscles. He may be scrawny, but he could beat me in an arm wrestle. The bird portal thing is mysticism/magic, and I can't really see how that is evidence for such an evolutionary pathway, their feet don't seem to correlate with birds... the only thing I can see is the fingers in the hands, but that is assuming Oddworld birds are like that, and given the glimpses I've seen of them, I doubt it.

Small correction: feather‐like hair.

Where did this idea that mudokons were descended from birds come from?

From an interview with Lorne in May 2000, in which he said ‘It’s interesting to note that the Mudokon themselves are evolved from birds.’

Bullet Magnet 12-11-2006 04:22 PM

Okay. Did he specify what kind?

Nate 12-11-2006 06:21 PM

Presumably one that we've never seen or heard of.

aaj111 12-12-2006 06:22 AM

Now I know why they call it Oddworld... But for some reason, they can still be explained. lol

Wil 12-12-2006 07:03 AM

Okay. Did he specify what kind?

That’s all he said.

Zerox 12-12-2006 08:22 AM

Just think of the typical bird form through to a Mudokon and you can see it. Powerful wing muscles retained as they evolve into arms, which therefore are slightly different. Also, the wing powering muscles left over that were attached to the breastbone are still there, you can see them stretched across a Mudokons' chest. Their skull structure also slightly correlates, notably the jaw.
I presume Muodkons evolved from some sort of ground bird, so there wasn't the power of flight to worry about when evolving arms instead, and the bird was still well equipped enough to survive after wing loss, or for that matter, even more so.
