Oh, that is vey possible actually. The levels that those were in were levels that had once been filled with water (I remember Abe's guide saying that) but dried out.

Wil 11-24-2005 11:04 AM

That was never a Forum-wide conclusion. I like the idea, but it's far from flaw-free. All Alf has said is that it's a creature we haven't seen yet, which could be a Sea Rex.

I realise now my answer in the FAQ on this topic is far from adequate. Time to update it!

EDIT:
:

The levels that those were in were levels that had once been filled with water (I remember Abe's guide saying that) but dried out.

I don't remember anything like that, and I have transribed all the games. A lot of the levels actually seem to take place on a plateau which would make that idea somewhat illogical.

Cullen Heath 11-24-2005 11:09 AM

No no. They were! I really remember that! Im positive!

Nate 11-24-2005 11:22 AM

No, I think Cullen was right. It's been a while since I played munch but it does sound familiar.

In any case the two levels with the skeletons were the paramite and scrab runs, both of which occured in deep canyons.

Wil 11-24-2005 11:41 AM

It could sound familiar because a dried up river bed is the setting for the entire first two thirds of Stranger's Wrath. I am intrigued by the possibility, but it's such a piece of information, I'm sure I wouldn't have forgotten it.

Cullen Heath 11-24-2005 11:44 AM

yeah, Paramite Run has 1 huge skeleton and Brewery To Be(bassicly a Scrab Run) has 2 giant skeletons.

MeechMuncher 11-24-2005 10:24 PM

What do we know about searexes anyway?
Are they like whales or more like sharks?

Wil 11-25-2005 02:48 AM

They're carnivorous, so more like sharks. They're the biggest animals in Mudos. They eat Gabbits and Worry Fish, and probably everything else they can. Small Sea Rexes are known to swim in the Mongo River.

Cullen Heath 11-25-2005 11:36 AM

Yeah, they have one long fin that goes up thier back, Kinda like a giant eel

Iiwish they had put small Sea Rex in the game. Swimming along whiles your in your boat, maybe even jumping out of the water. They're only small so they wouldn't be that much of a problem to put in the game.

MeechMuncher, If you have the Movies of Oddworld DVD, it shows a clip on that, if not then scoot around on Ebay, that's what I did.

Nate 11-26-2005 12:21 AM

It would take as much work to model and program a small searex as a large one. Besides, it would serve no purpose other than looking cool. In addition, searexes only venture into deep estuaries like those shown in the opening scene of MO but SW only showed shallow, upstream sections of the river.

Like I say, they do venture that far up the river. We couldn't see them because the river had been made too shallow by Sekto Springs Dam. Now that the river has returned to its former splendor, small Sea Rexes should be able to swim upstream.

I know that, but I am lead to believe that the Searex was cut out of MO because of it's size and how big the file was, whiles a smaller one probably wouldn't be such a big file size

MeechMuncher 11-26-2005 06:45 AM

Cut out stuff suxx. I think that not a single kb should be spared. At leased when it´s Oddworld.

*No, I do not have the DVD :( I would love to, but I havn´t heard of it ever being released in sweeden... (I could look though.)

Fuzzle Guy 11-26-2005 11:00 AM

It was never released in Sweeden, try Ebay, that's where I got mine.

Good call. But I was talking in-game when the river was shallow, rather than in the closing FMV (which would have been to early to see any rex-migration)

MeechMuncher 11-27-2005 12:11 AM

Have you ever thought about this?
Why dosn´t glukkons allso use mechanical pants?
That would free their arms!
(It would look stupid though)

Dipstikk 11-27-2005 12:17 AM

I tried that for one of my charachters. It did look stupid.

Or maybe I can't draw the harness right.

Fuzzle Guy 11-27-2005 12:27 AM

They look a lot more menacing without them.

Almost everyone has thought about that. It must be amongst the top five most commonly asked questions about Oddworld. That's why it's answered in the FAQ all new members are strongly encouraged to read.

MeechMuncher 11-30-2005 10:23 PM

I don´t think that those beetles (The ones with flat faces) are meetles. They seem to be small...
You can see one in the opening credits of MO. If that´s not one of those I´l eat my shorts. It doesn´t seem very big, flying around those signs, saying "gamespeak" and such things.

Havoc 12-03-2005 11:11 PM

Question: What is the guy called that is send by Sekto to hunt the steef before Stranger can find one? I don't think I ever heard his name.

Wil 12-04-2005 01:32 AM

That's D. Caste Raider. It's never mentioned in any FMVs or cutscenes, but if you listen to the Clakkers you can hear them talking about some fella named Caster Raider who's been asking in town about the Stranger. He's called Caster Raider in the game and credited as such, but is called D. Caste Raider in all promotional work such as the Outlaw Character Cards.

I prefer the name D. Caste Raider because of the pun. It was also more prominant in the run-up to the game than it is in the game itself.

Nate 12-04-2005 01:03 PM

Heh. I only just got the pun today.

I just always pronounced Caste rhyming with paste or waste.

used:) 12-04-2005 01:18 PM

I have been pronouncing Caste like vast since I first saw th name, what the hell is the pun?

EDIT: Hahahaha! So THAT's what it means.

Havoc 12-04-2005 01:27 PM

*mumbles some wordplays and eventualy meets the pun*

D'oh! LMFAO.

Nate 12-04-2005 04:51 PM

Oh. At least I'm not the only 'slow' one.

Wil 12-05-2005 10:16 AM

Hee hee hee. You all amuse me more than the pun itself. :) Incidentally, if anyone has any idea what's so funny with Elboze Freely's name, I'd love for you to point it out stoicly to me. Is it just a word like elbows and the word 'freely'? If so, what's to get?

Oddish 12-05-2005 11:18 AM

I don't get it :|

Havoc 12-05-2005 11:27 AM

I think it's like Elboze Freely > Elbows Freely. As in 'He elbows his way around freely'. I think...
