Then they aren't agnostic.

Varrok 08-01-2012 12:26 PM

Agnostic theists aren't agnostic?

OANST 08-01-2012 12:27 PM

Yup.

Varrok 08-01-2012 12:29 PM

And you're sure they are the stupid?

OANST 08-01-2012 12:39 PM

They just aren't agnostic.

Look, if you have an opinion, then you aren't an agnostic. If you say that you think there probably is a higher power, but you can't prove it so won't say for sure then you are merely a somewhat reasonable theist. If you think there isn't a higher power, but can't prove a negative then you are a pussy of an atheist. Have an opinion. Opinions can change, and opinions can be wrong, but at least you weren't a little faggot who kicked at the dirt with his head bowed while the grown ups had a conversation.

Wings of Fire 08-01-2012 12:42 PM

A/Theism is a question of belief, not knowledge.

A/Theism is a question of belief, not knowledge.

Exactly. If I say that I don't believe there is a god it doesn't mean that I have to prove it, and my inability to prove it doesn't make me wrong. In that same vein I can't prove that unicorns don't exist, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to bleed from my vagina, and claim that I don't know if unicorns are real or not. I simply don't believe it. So, I'm an atheist. This whole agnostic thing is just a way to neuter an opinion so it's less offensive, and that offends me.

Wings of Fire 08-01-2012 12:53 PM

Not really. Believing God doesn't exist, but not having the arrogance to say 'God isn't real' makes you an agnostic atheist. Similarly, believing in God, but not having a rock solid faith in his existence (Which makes you a pretty fucking poor theist, really) would mean you're an agnostic theist.

I don't care about the question of belief, which would make me an agnostic atheist by default as I can't know of God's existence. People who claim that agnosticism is a third option to a/theism are being silly.

OANST 08-01-2012 12:57 PM

The extra word is unnecessary. Everyone already knows that neither point can be truly proven, and as you pointed out already the terms atheist, and theist are terms that apply to belief, and not knowledge. Since we've already agreed that the word atheist means a lack of belief in a god, and does not need, or include any definitive knowledge then adding the word agnostic is just superfluous, and unnecessary.

You are an atheist. You don't believe in a god. Being open to changing your mind if events prove otherwise is not something that needs an additional qualifier.

STM 08-01-2012 02:01 PM

I missed the God Debates.

Mac Sirloin 08-01-2012 02:13 PM

There is a lawn. On one side, there is a barbecue. On the other a picnic. They are both lovely. In the middle is a fence that is begging to be sat on while you figure out who to eat with. The fence is tall enough to warrant some thought before you drop from one side or another, but short enough to climb up again if your appetite changes. There is just this fence, and no other in betweens. To be on one side eating chicken salad while grubbing for a steak on the other would contradict the fence.

OANST 08-01-2012 02:24 PM

That's probably the best argument for agnosticism that I've heard. However, I think that a person who is genuinely seeking how they feel about a subject doesn't fall into any of the three categories. Atheism is the belief that there isn't a god. Theism is the belief in a god. Agnosticism is more or less a refusal to pick a side even though in reality they already have, but just won't admit it. Apart from that you have the people who honestly just don't give a fuck one way or the other, and it doesn't even occur to them to think about it, and the people who are "soul searching" for an answer. These people don't fit into any one category, and will therefor be referred to simply as "people". They are probably the only ones worth a damn anyways.

Mac Sirloin 08-01-2012 02:43 PM

For analogies' sake they would be the people walking about the neighborhood without any plans for the night.

I was going to say that they are the ones playing frisbee, and enjoying each other's company in the adjacent park, but yours works too.

Mac Sirloin 08-01-2012 03:16 PM

Pretty much that. Maybe hitting up the 7/11 for some nondenominational freezies.

It's a poll. PC gamers voted on which franchises they thought were getting better/worse with every installment. There were 17% more votes for "Worse" than "Better" across the board, which just goes to show that we really are miserable bastards.

Fallout? REALLY?

Phylum 08-02-2012 12:37 AM

That's not really fair for CnC. The first game was far from the best. EA did something different for TT and lots of people didn't like it, but that doesn't mean the middle games should be overlooked.

Ridg3 08-02-2012 12:40 AM

Mass Effect was a pretty poor vote as well. I enjoyed that game as thoroughly as the rest and just because people think the ending was poor doesn't mean the franchise as a whole should be brought down because of it. Gamers are fickle creatures.

Nah CnC became ass raped the minute EA bought Westwood and fired half the dev team on the spot. I also agree with Mass Effect, ME2 and 3 were in many ways completely different from ME1 and stepped away from the role playing and the story quite a bit, focusing more and more on the action.

Glad to see people still have faith in Simcity though, but I bet the announcement for the new game had a lot to do with that. Looking at the last few Simcity franchise games that red bar should be full.

Wings of Fire 08-02-2012 04:08 AM

The whole thing is fucking retarded.

It's the internet, come on people.

It always reminds me of the start of Arcanum. Imagine a stuttering priest saying:

"And LO, the heir shall be reborn on WINGS of FIRE..."

Or rather, I should say, the start of Arcanum reminds me of WoF. You should be honoured, being able to intrude my otherwise enraptured mind while I'm playing one of my favourite games.

Also Assault Marines in Dawn of War talk about "bringing the Emperor's fury on wings of fire". It's a popular expression.

Wings of Fire 08-03-2012 05:41 PM

Actually my username comes from a heavy metal song about the devil.

And I'm quite a silly person, seriously.

STM 08-03-2012 05:42 PM

Yeah, whenever I hear the steely voice of an assault marine, I think of you, dear WoF.

*double post*
You gotta admit that the Curiosity rover's landing system was pretty damned incredible, and I'm amazed that something so far-fetched actually worked (but perhaps the NASA animation makes the concept of it look too unreal, as if it's sci-fi and not sci-fact). Here's footage they released of the landing - Though it's a shame they didn't have another camera ontop of the rover to film the crane dropping it onto the surface even if another satellite managed to capture a photo of one of its landing stages.

It's an amazing time for human science indeed.

EDIT: Oh yeah, this was leaked. Perhaps it'll be worth the weight. (:p) They could've done a better job with the voice acting though - But this is pretty damned amazing for a fan project. The people bitching about it seem to forget that it was made by fans and doesn't even have a budget.

So here’s a website I came across which details the story behind a couple of complete and utter psychopaths who use the internet to get in people’s heads and then mooch off them.

The webmaster’s experience is by far the worst part of it. Lotta words, worth reading.

OANST 08-07-2012 02:18 PM

Why?
