SO excited about this now. My fave bit was how you can see the scrabs get chopped. Great!
Also new Elum puzzles??!??!?! |
I'm loving the paramites in cages going along the conveyors. I'm wondering if you get infinite rocks on easy mode?
|
Seems more like infinite bottlecaps or whatever that you can use to distract enemies (or draw their attention). I imagine you won't have them on Classic mode unless they made puzzles that depend on them.
|
Here is another Gamespot Video, this time it was recorded on screen
Video Edit even more! more oddvideo and moooore I love that you can beat the muds right off of the platforms now.. epic! |
So one thing worries me, there is a checkpoint right at the start of the secret area, but, what if a player found it too hard and wanted to give up?
In the secret area shown, it's easy to escape, but for the other's, it's not so easy, I think personally having a checkpoint in a secret area is a design flaw, would have made more sense to place one right before the entrace. |
Oh my God, Abe's chant sounds like my awful impression of Abe's chant. It genuinely sounds like he is taking the piss out of himself or something. Also, why does the iPhone message tone play when Abe respawns?
Edit: Love the Mudokons' "Break time's over!" line. Genuinely made me chuckle, but the lack of noise coming from the meat saws seemed a bit odd, but that is fuck all in the grand scheme. Further edit: It is so refreshing to hear the in-game soundtrack is faithful to the original. When that music kicked in at the start of the Stockyard footage I partook in a sigh of relief. Also the transition from the intro movie into gameplay looks great, and it feels more tense with those bombs and alarms still going off. Have to say watching that player slowly shuffle in front of the bombs had me wincing! Oh and the Slig dialogue works in my opinion. From watching the clip with the end of the intro movie, I have a feeling all the small faults will simmer away once I am fully immersed in the game and the world from the very beginning to the very end. Last edit: Scrabs still sound like elephants. And they're just so broken. It's a shame really. |
Yeah the Abe chants.... made me kinda cringe
Boy that molluck sure looks angry http://i.imgur.com/zJvfXkx.png |
Okay I'll be honest.
I am very displeased to see the that the ominus towers in the background are no long what produce the motion sensors. It always made me feel like the glukkons knew where I was and were watching me. |
Same here, first impressions were not good, but weirdly I got used to it, but the new
Slig dialogue, I loved it, especially when they shout "Mommy!" When Abe is chanting. |
Yeah, the dialogs are great.
"Uhg, this sure is hard work." sounded very genuine. |
Molluck looks absolutely brilliant. One of the best parts I'd say.
|
yeah the chants a bit strange but god damn does this game look incredible! I love how they added the small talk between the Muds, it makes it all the better.
|
I really really really miss the old scrab sounds. I like the new ones a lot, they sound like a screaming nightmarish hell pig monsters. But the original howl and shred power NEED to be in there.
But holy damn the rest looks fantastic! that secret scrab running area (I hate to say the wrong green thing) I think should have remained a dark silhouette area of the factory where the lights are off in the foreground. So that we don't see the scrab in full light so that players don't know what it is quiet exactly yet. I felt the reveal of what they were once I went to scrabania. But that's just me. Keep up the fantastic work JAW! |
I've seen a few interviews with Lorne where he's said that they've made the game funnier, "More laughs, more hilarious". Which is worrying, because that makes me think he means that they've made it cartoonier.

With the newer tech, the things that can happen can be funny as Loren said a few times with the rag dolls. I feel the dialog is funnier at times but it feels like genuine quality black comedy. I actually laughed when the mud worker said "only 587 days till my next holiday" lol. I see a lot of evident darkness in the game so i don't feel it would be as cartoony as what we saw last year. I think we'll we seeing more soon. Molluck looks sooo freaking great. Nailed the big bad boss. Even I don't want to upset him. I'll role play abe into going back to work and apologising if he gets any madder lol. |
Holy fuck molluck looks scary in that cutscene! Not as much blood in the deaths as the original though i think, Unless i'm going blind :P I also love how they kept the same ripple transition used sometimes too :)
Edit: I actually really like the new Scrab sounds! They sound really nightmarish, and the tongues look evil! |
Yeah Molluck does look incredibly sinister. I might be jumping the gun here but i cant wait to see Dripik, Phleg and Aslik in the Exoddus remake (if that happens, which it most likely will)
Also if you listen carefully when you see him in that interview you can here Molluck let out a deep growl |
:
E: Holy crap, Molluck's neck crack. I love it. |
Does anyone on here actually have a PS4 though?
Watched the Lorne interview vid. Looking good. Hype hype hype. |

I got my tax refund through today.. £350. Imma get a PS4 with it :)
|
A PS4 might be on the cards if I can get an arse load of writing commissions. Depends how long the wait will be before a PC release, if it's in like 1-3 weeks I'll just wait.

Thanks for the video links, SoulStorm64! They've got me hyped back up now! :P
I'm so itching to play this on my ps3. Aside from Abe's constant lil chanting even after possessing a Slig, some of the quick character animations, and portal jingle when Muds enter a portal, I'm really liking the whole thing. I'm just wondering if the one cutscene with Abe falling by the Scrab cages will replace the old cutscene with him in the barrel? Or is it a simple add on scene? Then again, I guess it's stupid to ask since the game isn't really out yet. |
:
I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't allowed to give a release date until the exclusivity period expires, though. |

...and the sounds are certainly better than in previous NnT version (not to mention MO), that I'm sure. :

I love that they kept/enhanced the secret level jingle /criticism post |

The game has definitely lost it's grit, there's no point denying that. This remake could have either gone 2 ways: a sharp, dark, bleak version... Or a more mellowed out, user-friendly experience which we appear to have today.
I think the point for me when my brain finally said "yes, this is more cartoony" was in this video at 2.25. http://youtu.be/3f80t6Vfjj0?t=2m22s When the Sligs run past in the background. Looks like something from a 90's Nickelodeon cartoon. |
The chanting is meh, not gonna lie. But aside from just using the original sound (here we go again, nostalgia feels) it's gonna be very hard to imitate it properly I think.
Also gameplay wise there are too many checkpoints for my taste. In the first Zulag there's literally one every 20 steps or so. I wonder if number of checkpoints is going to be influenced by difficulty level. Would be neat, but doubtful. |
