A shitty character that my missus uses and that's the profile I'm using at the minute.

I'm (she's) a level 65 thief. Oh, and she used my boss souls I was saving, so Quelaag's Furysword is out of the question unfortunately. FOr the life of me I can't mind what my current armor set is at the minute but I'm certain that it's medium weight. And the weapons/shield is the Drake Sword + 4 and the Eagle shield... I should upgrade that.

Well, next playthrough make sure she (or you) doesn't use Quelaag's, Sif's or Gwyn's soul. Those are the most useful ones I'd say.

:

Don't worry about the thief class being shit, it's pretty good and the starting classes don't really matter anyways in the end.

:

And yeah, go ahead and upgrade the eagle shield (don't make it divine though, that's what I made of it and it blows...).

You might have already realized this, but even if the drake sword was overpowered/really good at the start of the game, it just isn't going to cut it anymore so I'd say hunt down a few black knights if you know there are some that you haven't killed and hope for a Black Knight Sword drop. Then upgrade that beast of a weapon to +5 and use it for the rest of the game. That's what I still use in NG+.

All this talk of Dark Souls is making me want to play it now...

Mr. Bungle 03-28-2012 10:02 AM

Starting playing through Banjo-Tooie again the other day. Currently on Glitter Gulch mine.

I can still safely say this is my favourite game ever.

Dynamithix 03-28-2012 11:36 AM

I got Soul Calibur V in the mail today. Made a little unboxing video of it too. I'm now in the 18th episode in the story, I think I'm actually near the end already but yeah, it's pretty fun.

One bad thing is that I haven't played any SC games before so the controls and the special moves are really hard to get used to. So far mashing buttons and learning a few combos has been enough. :p

MeechMunchie 03-28-2012 02:42 PM

Sequence.

As a port, it's got a few couple of lingering console elements, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Someone convince me to play through Morrowind fully. I have the game for xbox right next to me and for some reason I can just never get into it, despite wanting to and loving all the recent Elder Scrolls and Fallout games.

Varrok 03-29-2012 09:59 PM

Morrowind... for XBOX? Jesus, that must be a torture. Don't.

You need to stop being a negative nancy.

It's a very beloved last-gen game, set the expectations for Oblivion as high as they were, if you were willing you could probably mod your Xbox to run muds and custom shits for it. It was the first WRPG I ever played, and I had no idea what the shit I was doing but still had a lot of fun.

IF you don't play it, who will?

Never!

...wait, you can mod XBOX version? Then I'm taking back that thing about torture.

MeechMunchie 03-30-2012 06:16 AM

I'll play it.

Bungle, you should play it because it was the last true Elder Scrolls game - a game that fit its own unique mythology and no-one else's. No Tolkien crap, just a vague Warhammer fantasy influence, combined with massive Eastern European/Ancient Chinese spliceage. Giant mushrooms. Pterodactyls. Scaly wolves with mosquito heads. Transformer-maggot colonies. Arid shrubland. Random ash storms. A soundtrack which is all harp and cellos. "Sleepers", plagued by visions so disturbing that they've torn a cavity where their eyes used to be. It was weird, you felt like an outsider (YOU N'WAH!), and no-one told you what you had to do. You were an adventurer, a stranger in a strange land.

But you already know that (hence the shrinking). Why should you complete Morrowind? Because it has something neither Skyrim nor Oblivion had. A PLOT. And it's not a plot about being a hero, which is usually "X threatens our way of life, you must destroy X". Morrowind is a tale of love, honour, betrayal and conspiracy, and you will discover multiple shady connections between the people you were working for and the people you're fighting against, plus genuine revelations on the nature of your character. If you want to be a beloved hero, Morrowind isn't the game for you. You're a symbol of blasphemy, a reluctant antichrist, and the best you can achieve is a complete retraction of the legend that made you prophecised. The way of life that you would be preserving is corrupt, and the X you would be destroying is a fragment of a far more honest time.

I really can't recommend the PC version enough, though. It'll run on anything, and if you didn't play it when it was new, you'll need a good few mods to make it acceptable to your spoilt Skyrim eyes. On Steam, the Gotye Edition* is £12.99, but Bethesda games go on sale at least a couple of times a year if you want to wait.

GOTY includes Tribunal and Bloodmoon, two proper expansion packs, adding about an extra 16% of content each. Both include their own main quests, with Bloodmoon catering to fans of gameplay with puzzles, raid missions, and a new sprawling island full of secrets and werewolves, and Tribunal catering to fans of the atmosphere with a new, massive (by Morrowind standards... about Imperial City size) city full of new activities and funky architecture, plus another twisty conspiracy story. This one has a faster pace, concentrated content, less wandering, and explosions. It was a direct response to what people complained about in Morrowind.

MeechMunchie 03-30-2012 06:27 AM

I don't necessarily approve of complete retextures - they usually lose the original character, which was perfect. Just try and find some high-res versions of the normal texures, and some higher-poly models.

Disgruntled Intern 03-30-2012 07:55 AM

Lots of ME3 multiplayer. Lots. I haven't even really touched the campaign because I don't really want to see the end of the series [not because of all of the bullshit complaints about the ending], so I've just been leveling, promoting, and re-leveling various multiplayer classes and characters.

My only real gripe with the multiplayer is the lack of level based matchmaking. It irks the shit out of me when I go for a gold/silver challenge, and everyone in the lobby is level 18-20...Until the last second when someone switches to their level 1 character for the quick XP and bigger credit payout. Not only because it makes clearing all 11 waves that much harder, but because I spend the majority of my time reviving them.

Other than that I really like the way the different classes and their abilities can compliment each other and pull off some pretty crazy AOE group kills. It's good times in general.

OANST 03-30-2012 08:03 AM

I haven't even touched the multiplayer. Maybe I should.

Disgruntled Intern 03-30-2012 09:02 AM

If you decide to try it out, let me know and we'll play. I'd rather play with someone I sort of know than whiney shrieking 13 year olds.

OANST 03-30-2012 09:16 AM

Also, I figured out why I couldn't stay in cover. The controller I use sticks just the tiniest bit, and won't let the analog stick return to true center. This was never a problem for other cover based games, but it seems like Mass Effect's cover system is a bit more sensitive than the others. I got a new controller, so that fixed the problem.

My mum surprised me by picking up the Silent Hill HD Collection on her way home from work for me today. Awesome. I (obviously) started Silent Hill 2 first and am up to the apartment part. I can see why many people find the series disturbing and great, fucking horrid creatures. Seriously. And the goddamn radio *shudders*.

Mr. Bungle 03-30-2012 09:54 AM

Played a bit of Street Fighter X Tekken the other day.

Not sure if I wanna pick it up, really. I mean, it's fun, but the combat system just seems very... chaotic. The gameplay isn't nearly as refined as SFIV or MVC3, and a lot of the controls just seem sloppy.

I dunno. I had my heart set on this game but am starting to think otherwise. Might pick up the Silent Hill collection instead. That's available on 360, right?

Jealous. I want to pick that up but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I never played 3, but I played the xbox port of 2 way back when and just loved it. I still think fatal frame is one of the scariest games I've played, but Silent Hill 1 and 2 have definitely got to be the creepiest.

I am disappointed about this game, yet I haven't finished it. but I am pretty far ahead. I don't know what it is, but it's just not that fun to play the game and the atmosphere isn't intense at all.
but it's not a total disaster either. plot is just lame and doesn't make much sense. the gameplay is repetitive. I don't care about the characters at all, especially about the annoying ones from the side quests. so there's no real drive to play the game.
shame, could have been a good game.

I agree with you. It could of been something great. But in the end it was just a big flop. :fuzsad:

And don't get me started on the characters as well.....

Manco 03-30-2012 03:47 PM

There is so much shit to do in New Vegas that I’m still playing it, and I’ve still not finished the main plot.

It’s become a bit frustrating at the moment, though, due to a compound of ever more frequent freezes and bugs mixed with the brick walls that crop up when you reach the bottom end of the high-level quests – I have so much I want to do, so much that I’m not able to do, and it feels like the engine is working against me in some cases.

Today I spent a good half-hour or so discovering that my wanton exploration had consequences – due to my wrecking my reputation with the Legion it became impossible to initiate a conversation with Caesar, which advances the plot. I then had to plot an alternate solution (murder) in order to retrieve the weapons I’d had taken from me while maintaining my disguise so as to reach Caesar’s tent.

I’ll never know Caesar, at least this playthrough. Then again, I got to steal all his shit, and to top it all off I even managed to waltz out the front door unaccosted – and then snuck back in a few minutes later to wrap up another quest.

Mac Sirloin 04-01-2012 11:54 AM

I beat Mass Effect 2. All of my party members were loyal, except for Jack because she's a terrible character who renounces all the shit you've done for her by throwing a temper tantrum. Luckily she died during the suicide mission but so did Garrus so it was bittersweet.
I liked the ending, could have been better but all those upgrades paid off. The New game+ option kinda sucks since you can't pick another class, but I'll just start a proper new game and choose all of the renegade options.

Seriously though, Jack is stupid as hell. All of that 'THE MOST POWERFUL BIOTIC' nonsense is basically just an excuse for her say 'Bitch!' and throw things at people during cutscenes. You know what would have been cool? Replacing her with a Varren that holds a handgun in its mouth that can also be romanced. Its loyalty mission would be taking it for a long walk.

I borrowed Dead Island from my friend two days ago and I'm now on the second act in the game. I'm really enjoying it even though I am playing it alone, I like the exploration and the combat in it but dear god, could the voice-acting be more horrible?! Everyone's either extremely Australian or has a black guy's voice.

You must love John Sinamoi then....

"That's the last one? Okay then... Thanks, mates."

Yesterday I bought Cave Story Plus from Steam. It's a remastered edition of that Indie 90's game, Cave Story. The game is just beautiful in itself. The pixel art, the gameplay, the story and the RPG side of things where what you do in the game will determine whether you get the Good or Bad ending.
Now that I think of it, it's a lot like AO and AE but with guns.

I wouldn’t really make that comparison. AO/AE are slow, realistic puzzle-platformers, Cave Story is more a retro-style JRPG shooter. The main similarity is the side-scrolling aspect and the multiple endings – and Cave Story’s ending is based on completing arbitrary tasks, rather than rescuing a bunch of NPCs.

It is an amazing game though. I replayed it about four times just to get the best ending.

Jordan 04-02-2012 01:11 AM

I really enjoyed CaveStory+, but the final bosses were a bitch to kill. I've yet to find the other endings though.

Mudokon_Master 04-02-2012 01:27 AM

I've had to start the game over again a few times purely because I suck at spotting life capsules. When I come to a boss battle, I find myself with such a low maximum HP that it's impossible to deal damage to it.
