I hope in that blueish screenshot, the sligs will work better. I remember that spot being harder than the entire rest of the game. I could never get a slig to follow me into the mine. Or even follow me at all, they just shot. I always end up timing them turning around until I find the perfect moment to sneak up quickly and then run jump to the ledge.
I did this too, I also found the whistle puzzles frustrating in Monsaic Lines because I didn't realise you had to let the slingshot mudokon whistle the whole thing so I worked out how to get past all of the guys without doing them.

@Wil, I don't have a twitter account sadly :0 so I missed that vote lol. Either way, can't wait to see what's next :) |

Scrabania looks so stunning! That sun and those clouds, wow! I'm hoping we can get a gif form of one of it's scenes soon. I don't even mind Elum's size difference at all. It looks great. :p
I can make it a gif if that makes you happy

+rep for the maniac scrabaniac :D nice find
Woo! Thank you :P Scrabania is looking to be my favourite place, I can't wait to hear the soundtrack for it in NnT!
Nice find! Can't believe that didn't make a blip on my radar!
That's looking very good :) |
Looking at that screenshot, I think that the transition between those doors in Scrabania will be seamless, rather than having to wait for the FMV to load in AO, I assume that the camera will instantly just scroll along to the next door.
Hi guys.
The article (and screen) are from last October. Lots (LOTS) has changed since then. Don't read too much into anything you see from so long back. |
It looks amazing for the build in October! Well if lots have changed since then, i'm sure it will look absolutely amazing :)
Edit: Is it me or is Elum quite small? |

Oh God. i've just had an awesome idea (imo anyway...). Depending on whether you choose Paramonia or Scrabania first, you'll play through each of them either in daylight or at dusk. So if you choose to play Paramonia first, it will be daytime there, then when you play Scrabania night will be approaching. And vice versa. |
Well I think the idea of the AO storyline is that it all happens in a certain timeframe, From what I can see, Abe escapes Rupturefarms in the night, hence why the free fire zone takes place at night (Or as I called it as a child, the night level), then when Abe gets out from the Monsaic Lines (Remember it all takes place inside a temple) it is now the morning, and by the time he makes his journey back to Rupturefarms, it is now the night again.
This could possibly be established from the outside shots we see of rupturefarms, that is, the games intro and the good ending when we see the lightning strikes all seem to take place at the same time of day, which can either tell us that both times we saw the outside we saw it at nighttime, or the atmosphere was made to look that way to show the pollution from the factory. Don't get me wrong AvengingGibbons, your idea is great, but we have seen no evidence of this so far and I think I may have possible given the explanation as to why. |
Time would have to move incredibly slowly for Abe to travel through a desert, a forest and two temples, as well as attending each tattoo ceremony to make it back before dusk!
In his monologue in the introduction, I am 99.9% confident Abe states "My whole life changed in just one day", meaning he does in fact travel the whole length and breadth of the game in one day and is back home at Rupture Farms in time for tea and toast.
Plus it really doesn’t take more than a few hours in-game to complete the story, and almost all of Abe’s actual travelling is done by the player in realtime. Even if you add some extra time for Abe to travel between the main areas, it wouldn’t be infeasible for Abe’s journey to be done in 24 hours.
Oh also Oddworld’s days might last longer than Earth’s. |
The story in AO lasts one day. This was confirmed by Lorne Lanning.
Well that's me told.
I never actually gave the time scale of Abe's Oddysee any real thought, I just played the levels as they came. It's strange thinking that so much happened in just one day.
Remember that a large amount of travel time between Paramonia and Scrabania was cut by the wind tube things.
Coming to think of it, I don't recall any night time gameplay in Abe's exoddus.. What was the time frame in that?
But how do the wells work? D:

This just in. New and tasty delayed because of Oddworld forums.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that this is a fantastic commercial and would be even more amazing if remade to New n Tasty quality?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVntNQ_EXE8 Does jaw have the assets for this? Just curious. |
There's a thing: Will SHRINK be making an appearance?
I Hope so, that was quite scary looking in the trailer back in the day! Isn't today the weekly comparison and gif day? :P
:
Is it the guardian angel/shrink?! :O
I gotta wake up in 5 hours time. I usually stay up till 3am just to see what shows up lol. |
@jaw_alex You guys sure know how to spoil us :D I would LOVE to see how the Temples have evolved from '97, I can only image pure epicness.
Damn look at this temple! That lil mo'fucker looks naasty!
(Sorry for dbl post) |
Since day one, there are two areas they've absolutely no questions asked 110% nailed and improve upon - Paramonia and the temples! Scrabania also looks superior to the way it did in the old game.
Great work JAW! Now the temples might end up being my favorite locales! |
Ain't lookin' too shabby, now.
Yeah, now I've got a similar layout to compare, it's easy to see how good these new assets are. I wonder how much of the difference in tone comes down to the simple resolution change - It's been observed by many that low-res graphics have a very crude, spooky quality.
But hey, Oddworld isn't a horror series. I've come to terms with that. |
Man... I'm starving for some GIF!!
Me to! I'm itching for a gif. It's like a drug addiction. I'm starting to see crab cakes in my patisserie. They're hiding next to the salted caramel tarts :/ I swear.
