How long before our mystery friend starts asking for diamond?

Manco 06-28-2011 10:02 AM

If he does he's not bloody getting mine.

Splat 06-28-2011 06:10 PM

I just had an idea...

I need some signs!

DarkHoodness 06-28-2011 08:54 PM

Gonna be a screenshot-heavy update:

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1309319348

Filling this place is gonna be a challenge - The frame of the wall is finally finished though:
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1309319348

Early interior test, the only thing I've come up with so far but I'm having more ideas. I think I'll need to scale this up a bit:

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1309320035

Today we cleared the last of the space inside too:

In bed.

enchilado 06-29-2011 12:37 AM

enchilado left the game.

I would say double the height of each floor - compare the scale of the slig in the cutscene to the corridor you've put together, it's way too small.

Havoc 06-29-2011 04:28 AM

I hope the final version of Minecraft also has the option to make smaller blocks somehow. It's a very creative game but the sheer size of the blocks prevents any kind of detail.

Phylum 06-29-2011 04:41 AM

Unless you make stuff really big.

Also, Better than Wolves has smaller blocks. It looks fairly neat.

I was aware of that when I built it. :P

Agreed with that, even half-blocks don't stack together correctly so you have to use compromises. Wil's boat is a good example of this (he should post screenshots of that, BTW).

STM 06-29-2011 11:18 AM

Hey Havoc, can you give me the info on where to get that mapping software so you can get an isometric view of the areas? Our server would like to get them so we can link the towns up by roads yada yada yada.

Single Player doesn't count as a server.

Havoc 06-29-2011 02:08 PM

Ouch, lol.

STM 06-29-2011 03:56 PM

Thank you. It's a real pain in the arse travelling through the nether because you and other people, OddHunter, get lost walking.

Havoc 06-29-2011 04:16 PM

Oh btw, when rendering the map of our world the program rendered a whooping 38.000 chunks. I have no idea how many blocks that is, but it seemed like a lot to me.

STM 06-29-2011 05:34 PM

32,768*38,000=1245184000

Havoc 06-29-2011 05:48 PM

1.2 billion blocks huh? Hm, that is a lot.

STM 06-29-2011 05:50 PM

Quite, that is if 38.000 means 38,000, I assume it does since you are from the Netherlands, if it was just 38 it would be far more measly.

Havoc 06-29-2011 05:55 PM

I use dots and comma's based on my mood, don't look to far into it.

DarkHoodness 06-29-2011 10:14 PM

Another interior study/mock up. Try and imagine this surrounded by stone rather than being outside, but yeah, you can kind of see where I'm going with this:

The catwalk got pretty awesome there. Nice one.

I might get to studying the floor plans soon, then I can contribute to the project once again. Yesterday, I merely walked from RF to the apartments, then back to Genesis Core, and realised that I don't want to do anything. Lack of inspiration or something.

DarkHoodness 06-30-2011 12:16 AM

That's the thing about Minecraft. Unless you have your own project then it gets boring very quickly. :( This is why I started such a big project to keep me occupied until 1.8 finally gets released.

As for RF, Don't forget about the floorspace plan - It's actually not that large an area. Splat said that if the RPG map was modified for Minecraft, he said he'd like to put more emphasis on the production lines and storage areas like how RF looks in AO, rather than offices, etc.

I'll be coming up with my own ideas too to help with that, maybe the three of us can combine them. Also, why not do what I'm doing - Take a careful look at AO FMVs and levels, then open up INVEdit for Minecraft and try designing some interiors in single player. It'll give you something to think about. :)

I thought a large chunk of the factory floor and catwalk was pretty much destroyed in W@RF... partially thanks to me :p

Ridg3 06-30-2011 05:08 AM

Here's something for the track at Rupture Farms. At each lever put down a booster rail so it looks like as it does at 0:18

Phylum 06-30-2011 05:19 AM

Or, you know, use the pistons that are being released in a few hours.

Splat 06-30-2011 05:58 AM

I made a Dark Tower!

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1309438676

When the next update creates spikes I'm going to install a spike pit. That'll keep those pesky heroes out.

Havoc 06-30-2011 06:46 AM

Minecraft 1.7 is out, but the server update is not available yet so don't update your clients. I will post here the second the server is updated.

Havoc 06-30-2011 09:52 AM

Server has been updated to 1.7_01

The current server side build is designated as 'Experimental' and will be updated to a 'Recommended' build as soon as one is released. Everything seems to work okay though, so feel free to update and play!

Crashpunk 06-30-2011 10:30 AM

The update is pretty cool. I can see amazing stuff being made from the Pistons.

EDIT: Fantasic work on Rupture Farms people. Let me know if you need anything, i'm always happy to help

Wariopunk has left the game

dripik 06-30-2011 10:45 AM

I see amazing stuff being made from removable leaf blocks. I have something neat in mind.

Havoc 06-30-2011 10:47 AM

Uh, Wario...

Your place... Creepers... no arrows... blew up front door. Sorry XD

Then 3 more Creepers showed up and I didn't want to do more damage so I locked myself in your guest room and it was ssooooo scary I'm sorry :(

DarkHoodness 06-30-2011 11:44 AM

Well the shears are quite awesome - Sheep now yield up to four pieces of wool per animal (which is good because I now seem to find fewer of them. :S)

The updated cobble texture is nice but I sort of wish it was a little darker. It was good for adding variety to otherwise blank-grey structures. Like Rupture Farms. :( Ah well though.

Gonna have a play with pistons when an update for INVedit comes out and try some experiments. Maybe I'll come up with some mechanisms for RF. Such as meat grinders!

darn it.

Thanks for doing your best to protect it though, no hard feelings.

Second progress vid:

EDIT: For the record it's been mostly me doing the actual construction work on this, 'cept for a few parts of the frame that Dripik can take credit for - Him and many others have been incredibly helpful though by donating tons and tons of stone and clearing land for the project. Thanks all. :)

This project serves as a testament to how much of a life I currently (don't) have. But at least it's creative. Sort of.

Anyway, I've put up a credits board on the 3rd floor stating who's done what so far, which I'll move to a more obvious place once RF is finally finished (if it gets that far, lol) - Please let me know if I've missed anyone or if anything's inaccurate:

Splat 07-01-2011 02:20 AM

Hey, you missed a spot! (Kidding)

Looks great; progressing well.

I had an adventure yesterday.
I was planning the finishing touches to Barad Splat Dur when Wariopunk invited me to come and help him explore a cavern. Along I went, and evnetually found myself near bedrock in a cavern with large pillars of lava beneath dark, unexplored cave-mouths.
I went towards one of these giant cave-mouths where I could hear zombies, and ended up edging along between a pool of lava and a wall one block thick.

Unknown to me, Wario was on the other side of this wall, and was making a friend.
I heard a hiss and had no idea I was one block away from the creeper.
The explosion knocked me down to two hearts and threw me into the air, above this lava lake, and then I landed safely on the other side.
Before I could celebrate however, the zombie I'd been stalking sneaked up behind me and gave me a friendly slap on the back.

That mine owes me a diamond sword.
Also, I lost my fully explored map :fuzsad:

I respawned back at my Lair after dark, and while Wario recovered those of my possessions which had survived the lava, I climbed my forest tower and await the dawn. Where, surveying my small stretch of woodland I beheld an incredible sight...
Which for some reason the screenshot hasn't saved...

But it was a Pinku Sheep! (*Angelic choir*)

Unfortunately it was night and a lot of nasties were walking around so I couldn't approach. by the time dawn came I could count no less than 8 creepers wandering around outside my sanctuary so I couldn't get close. By the time I escaped, it (and, to be fair, the creepers) had been encouraged to despawn.

Phylum 07-01-2011 03:15 AM

I donated about 512 coble to RF. I also have several hundred I could donate in a chest at home. I'm currently performing major renovations right now (as anyone that stops by my house will see) so I'll try to calculate how much I can donate tomorrow.

For god sake be careful, self activating piston setups like this can destroy a server... It's like dividing by zero.

E'l Scrabino 07-01-2011 05:13 AM

Be sure to make back ups D:

In other news, I've made a 'slime cavern' of sorts behind Rupture Farms (or in front of it if you view the Glukkon symbol as the front of the building)

Slime (and only slime) will occasionally spawn down there, and everyone's welcome to go farm them some slimeballs. Be aware that sometimes slime gets to be as big as 3x3x3 (I think; I was too busy running in fear to be certain) and these huge mo'fudgers pack a punch to the average unarmored Minecrafter.

Havoc 07-01-2011 05:18 AM

1.7.2 is released. Again don't update client until server has been updated.
