My dad bought me Minecraft. After about 2 hours of technical difficulties that in hindsight are probably blogworthy because they were just relentless and fucking stupid, he bought it on the account he made rather than buying a gift code.

I found out that creepers cannot blow up obsidian. So that'd be good to make your house out of.

I was thinking if there was a way of getting lava to the surface naturally you might just be able to carve chambers into it.

You can build things out of obsidian with a mould, like I did for my ice house; fill each layer with lava (so preferably near a portal to the Nether) and then tip water on it. If you have enough buckets it'll be much quicker than mining it all.
You can find lakes of lava on the surface, but they're not really volcanoes. EDIT: I always thought using Minecarts was rather fiddly. But this is awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTZB-...eature=related |

I was exploring a large cave system earlier when I was confronted by 2 creepers and a zombie. I managed to fight them off, proceeded down dark, windy corridors and killed 2 more creepers when I reached a fork. I went right, but I soon hit a wall. I then went back and killed 2 creepers that had appeared at the fork. I then started down the other path and was confronted by a creeper. As soon as I killed it, 2 more came down and attacked me. I killed them and took a few steps before I was confronted by yet another now dead creeper. I'm too terrified to continue down that path, so I've just blocked it off.
If I didn't know any better I'd say that there's a creeper spawner down there. |

But creeper encounters are fun. I'm going to sit back and figure out how to get into that cavern and enjoy myself doing it.

I found a mushroom forest yesterday...growing in a forest...some of them growing on leaves, which is odd.

They're fairly cheap though, so I'm going to be able to make my planned auto-harvest system for my farm pretty easily. |

Unlikely, but you'd be able to make gates that dropped lava on people when they walk past.

Yeah the pistons are able to block water (and probably lava) flow, which could make for some very interesting contraptions.

Well, when I say that I mean that it harvests the plants (about 300 plots?) in seconds. It's quite beautiful to look at... I just need to go back into the nether and collect more powder thingies to make the light block thingies. |
