I always thought they were more like Termites.
Termites also have queens.
This is not List Earth Species With Biological Queens. If any single species inspired Lorne to create super species, it will have been naked mole rats, a personal favourite of Lorne’s. The point is that the model does exist on Earth in various eusocial species.
I only identified termites with Mudokons because like the termite queen, Sam is constantly trying to kill herself.
Why is Sam trying to kill herself?
And why is it that in AO when you're being chased by a Slog, Slig, Scrab, or Paramite and you go to the next screen they're farther away from you then they were before. But in AE it doesn't do that. |
Sam is suicidally depressed ostensibly because she is manufacturing a huge number of slaves. Her children are worthless to modern society, poorly treated, doomed to be subjugated for ever more. There’s also probably an element of guilt there after getting her species into such a state.
For AO, the answer is gameplay reasons. For AE, the answer is gameplay reasons, but in a different way. |
This was probably a glitch in AO, but it got fixed in AE. Same thing when a Mud follows you.
The stockyard secret area with the scrab would be impossible without that sort of lag, they're just too fast.
:
When Abe rolls, he's faster than when he runs, so this secret area could have still been beaten by rolling.

The urge to reproduce is stronger than the one to survive. But there isn't evidence that termites suffer from pain, let alone experience pain laying eggs. They aren't human, after all, pain during childbirth is prevalent only in some mammals.
I have a question that I'm fairly sure has already been answered, and that the answer is inconclusive due to lack of further info, but I'll ask again anyway as I've forgotten what the consensus reached was:
Meetles. Right, this is a Meetle http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...O/CAMO0156.jpg. Says so o nthe character bit. So, if this is a Meetle, is this also a Meetle: http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...O/RAMO0031.jpg And if it is, are there different breeds of Meetle? The first one is definitely a different creature, as the pointy carapace is part of is body, as the organic cross-sections show. So, are they different species, or different breeds? There's another picture on TOGG of the 2nd Meetle-esque creature in wooden armour as well, which begs the question- do the industrialists and the natvies have Meetles? As I've seen art featuring the pointy Meetles in control of the Sligs, and art with the rounded meetles in native hands. So then, further question is, are the 2 types of Meetle genetically altered? Or are the pointy ones Meetles, and the other ones something else. Perhaps Mugs. Are THEY the other Meetle-thing, or somethnig else again? There's so much mroe stuff on TOGG I want to know about, but I know we sdo'nt have the answers. Like what the thing that looks like a jacked up and f'ed up version of a Slig is. Could be Skillya, I think. |
The nasty looking carnivorous ones are Mugs, Meetles raised on a carnivorous diet by Industrialists.
:
Also, how does that explain the vastly differing body shape? |
Interesting that you find that Mug blueprint, MM. Xav only discovered it today. Yes, these are the same species and the same breed. They just grow into one form or another based on their diet. Think about how a honey bee larva fed exclusively on lots of royal jelly will become a queen.
The ‘jacked up and f'ed up version of a Slig’ you mention is not a Slig queen, but a 1%er, and there’s more than enough information about them on the Forums already. Search for it. |
I wasn't actually asking for information on 1%er that I inaccurately described, but thanks all the same. As I currently understand it, this is a 1%er:
http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...O/CAMO0147.jpg Which is totally different to Meetles, even though the early concepts shared the same name. And Xav discovered that today? Woah, weird. I myself only saw it on TOGG cause I was looking for some more Oddworld concept stuff while the forums were down. Funny timing. Ah, I've found out more about Meetles from this topic: http://www.oddworldforums.net/showth...ghlight=1%25er 2 different strains of Meetle is interesting. And the pink fuzzy things with whiskers in the Munch's Odysee renders and concepts are Meetle larvae, while the slightly bigger pink things with the same number of legs and eyes as a Meetle, and some tubes and yellow mottles are Meetle grubs. And then of course there's things like the Musklums, which I won't ask about as I don't want to be a bother. But also in my forum research, I'm amazed at how big fully developed mudokon eggs are. Ah, I love discussing the non-fully fleshed out aspects of Oddworld. Makes you realise just how massive the whole world of it is. And we've only seen part of 1 continent... |
Where do you guys conjure these pictures from? Mallet space?
I thought the scorpion face was a Mug, and the two beetle-like creatures were meetles.
I think this has been asked before just not answered. Why is Elum running without Abe on his back? Gameplay reasons?
http://www.oddworldlibrary.net/togg/...=SSAO0152.jpg6 http://i30.tinypic.com/73gpoh.jpg |
I know one topic said that, Used, but I believe the ruling was that the scorpion-face is a 1%er, but the original name was going to be Meetle. Then the 2 beetles became Meetles, with one being a variant strain known as a Mug.
:
I know you get them from TOGG. But where do Max and Xav get them?
Mallet space is where cartoon characters keep their miscellaneous and often inappropriately large personal effects, as opposed to physically on their person, where they most certainly do not. |
The aliens are probing the wrong creatures...

Yay! I finally get to see a mug.
But another annoying question. In the artbook (page 230), there are octigi with longer tentacles than sekto. Are they part of oddworld, or were they cut indefinitely? Also, does any one know if they were a different class (like a queen (not that I think that it is a queen) instead of a worker), or a sub-species? |
arkaznor, that longer‐tentacled Oktigi is just a concept image. Its design was altered into the one we (almost) see in the game, not cut completely.
Just wondering, since there is another octigi sketch right next to it, that resembles Sekto more (just with twice as many tentacles).
Just got my thinking. I figured the answer you gave was probable right, before I asked, but I just wanted to make sure. Sorry for my annoyance. |
:
He doesn't run when he's escaping bees. I suspect that this is a picture of a bug.
:
Possibly during some earlier construct of the game, Elum would run from bees, or run to chase after Abe. Now this will probably be added to MS1029’s wishlish for an AO rerelease.
Does anyone have a picture of a Luskan Maruader? It's just that I'm trying to draw one but I only have the picture in the art book for referance and I can't find any anywhere else.
No, that’s the only image there is, and the only source of information we have about it.
Oh, ok. Thanks anyway.
Are there bad Mudokons in Mudos who kill native Mudokons, who plunder Native's villages and who don't speak Mudokon's language? For example outlaws or Mudokons who have never met civilised Mudokons and who live like primitives.
There's always black-quarma Abe.
The closest thing would be the mudokons living in the cities, that have no idea of their spiritual heritage and buy products of the Magog Cartel and Vykkers Corporation.
Wouldn't there be ones under the influence of Sligs, told to kill eachother for their own gain?
:
Mudos is a big place, and we've seen the equivalent of Disney Land's Magic Kingdom.
Indeed. The map puts it all into perspectvie. What we've seen of Mudos is next to nothing, and Mudos is next to nothing in relation to the rest of Oddworld. Who knows, on other continents the Mudos species may not even exist, or the hierarchies may be totally different.
