The height charts are not reliable!

Most systems in the galaxy have two stars. On star is an oddity. EDIT: pun not intended.

In AO, stockyard escape we see loads of moons.

I was toying with the idea of a comic... I'll have to see if my skill makes it feasible when by graphics tablet arrives... I the meantime, I do believe Dripik has had a good one going for some time now.

But an official one would be cool. So long as Lorne is with the writers and the artwork is faithful and not cheesy...

We can presume Oddworld has at least 3 moons, the Abe's hand one, The Gabbit foot one, and the blank one seen in Stranger.

The blank moon could be Abe's or Munch's moon with its back facing Oddworld.

Bullet Magnet 11-29-2006 05:08 PM

I think that in all probability, moons like these always have the same face towards Earth, like our own moon.

Wil 11-30-2006 12:28 AM

Also like most natural satellites in our solar system, thanks to tidal locking, but I don’t think that’s something Oddworld needs to heed.

Bullet Magnet 11-30-2006 02:01 AM

Their tides must be wild.

Nate 11-30-2006 03:14 AM

Not particularly, the earth's moon is the only one in the solar system large enough to significantly affect weather.

But planets like that aren't capable of supporting life properly, surely? well, not too well, anyway...
I didn't say the height chart was reliable, I was vaguely using it as another sort of 'link' between Stranger's and Abe and Munch's stories etc. Unless that's what you meant.
A moon would only ever change it's face literally if it was affected by another star. And even then, that seems unlikely to happen.
Moons in AO Stcokyards? I thought many would be the same one from a different viewpoint...that many seperate moons is ridiculous.
They all appear vaguely larger than our moon, looking at them. So yeah: Hellish weather. At least on parts of the planet at a time as it is so large, and revolves around parts of the planet.

We are the only non-gas giant that has weather and moons in the solar system, so we can't really compare. Then again, tides are not weather :fuzconf:

We don't really have the authority to make that assumption. Besides, they are equal in size. One is usually a dwarf.

I don't understand- changing its face? Do you mean rotating or being physically altered? Both occur without stars.

No, they are all different sizes and different positions, and you see several on each screen. Saturn has hundreds of moons.

aaj111 11-30-2006 10:13 AM

Yep, there are many Moons around those planets but only few are actually classified as moons... for some reason...

The Moons in AO are not the same ones from the Cutscene, theres like more than 2 or 3.

Zebulon 11-30-2006 01:08 PM

in stockyard escape, i recall having seen more than just 2 moons. skillya? you just recently played through AO, how many moons are there?

Bonedust 11-30-2006 03:56 PM

There could be two ...
In the screne with the three shadowed hiding spots where you follow the slig from one spot to the next in order to make to the next screne. There is a "normal" moon in that area.
but that could be Abe's moon from a angle.

Bullet Magnet 11-30-2006 04:00 PM

You see Abe's moon once in the Stockyard Escape, and you can tell by the great big mudokon paw-print on its face.

Patrick Vykkers 11-30-2006 05:53 PM

What is the exchange rate of US$ to Moolah? I'm guessing it's quite high, given that in Oddworld, a few million is enough to make someone a Glockstar. Hell, the Carlyle groups directors get paid more than five times that amount in dollars a year.

Zerox 12-01-2006 09:02 AM

Thanks for verifying, Bullet.
Dunno about exchange rates...was it ever thought of or published?
Maybe about 1 Moolah to $15?
And related to that question, if a Moolah is roughly what we think of as a Dollar/Pound, then what is a '1p' in Moolah? Or does such a thing not exist? Surely some Oddworldian sweets and all would be '20p' in Moolah or something...

Jordan 12-01-2006 01:14 PM

Oddworldian sweets... mmm.... scrab sugar clusters, fleech lollies, choco covered paramite legs, yummy!

Bonedust 12-01-2006 02:15 PM

Exchange rates are wierd.
The American dolllar equales 1.5 English pounds.
but we buy a loaf of bread for $2.00 and in England it is bought for 3 pounds

Bullet Magnet 12-01-2006 08:03 PM

The expensive bread, yeah. I get mine for 50 pence.

Working out an exchange rate between a real (and fluctuating) currency, and that of a fictional universe is not feasible. We haven't seen the prices on any comparable products, and we all know how different the pricing and manufacturing methods on Oddworld are....

Nate 12-01-2006 11:43 PM

I think he realises that. He was rather considering the difference between the upper financial echelons that on Oddworld need only have a few million but on Earth would require tens of billions.

Patrick Vykkers 12-02-2006 12:30 AM

Indeed. Although strangely enough, both the Pud from MO and the Wanna-be suit Glukkons are described as Junior Executives. Also, the executives in Exoddus (in the Executive Offices) have the same appearance, suit wise, as the aformentioned Wanna-be Junior Execs. Probably an issue of the concept of Glukkon appearance and ranks not being introduced.

On that topic, I have my own fanon theory that there is a group of Gluks above Glockstar status who do the day to day running of the Magog's operations with Maggie having the ultimate say, kinda like Palpatine vs his ministers. I call them the Triumvirate, borrowing a bit from Ancient Rome, and unintentionally from many real and fictional triune and semitriun governments. But that's getting off topic.

Now that's what I call a theory.
We could roughly attempt an exchange rate, given that the last can of Gabbiar was 3,000,000 Moolah, and maybe there will be some other remote sources. Is there anything on the official oddworld site page? Like in the 'Daily Deception' paper or Rupturefarms internet site page?

Nate 12-02-2006 04:03 AM

Althought it's fairly safe to say that the gabbiar wasn't actually worth three million moolah, given everyone's shock at Lulu's bid.

Slaveless 12-02-2006 06:30 AM

I believe that the whole Pud to Glockstar status system mainly affects the worker class of Glukkons. With that in mind, I believe that the Glukkons that help Maggie are not Worker Class Glukkons, but other ones, like Solider Class. So maybe you are right Patrick Vykkers. Maybe there is a class above Glockstar, just not avaibile for Worker Class Glukkons.

All the products in the RuptureFarms Online Catalogue have prices, but once again there is nothing to directly compare them to. We are in luck, however:

‘[…] and I want to know how much will the Xbox cost and […]’
‘[…] 35,299 Moolah here (dunno the Moolah-to-dollar conversion, sorry kid); […]’
(extract from Dear Alf, August 2001)

Given that the Xbox’s launch price in the U.S. was $299, an approximate conversion rate would be:
1 USD = 118·0568562 MLA
1 MLA = 0·008470494915

Patrick Vykkers 12-02-2006 12:03 PM

That's very strange though. That would mean that the amount of US dollars required for getting into a very high ranking status would be even less, which would make the Magog seem more like a 3rd world nation (Mudos is apparently the size of Nigeria) than a powerful, money rich cartel capable of fielding armies and buildings hundreds or thousands of structures (Rupture Farms 1029, Soulstorm Brewery 401, Slog Hut 1027). It's almost like Minimalism in Star Wars, a sort of memetic in the Expanded Universe which states that the Galactic Republic only had 3 million clones, the glorious Executor was only 8km, the Death Star II was only 160km, that the Confederacy only had a few hundred million droids, and that the Endor fleet was most of the Imperial fleet, among other things.

Xavier 12-02-2006 12:23 PM

did someone ask himself how much it would cost to ship an Xbox to Oddworld? :p

Cullen Heath 12-02-2006 12:29 PM

So that could mean that the Gabbiar would have been around twentyfive thousand, five hundred USD. Wow, that is cirtainly a lot cheaper than what we thought...

Or, from Oddworld, Xav:p

Xavier 12-02-2006 12:54 PM

what I mean is that we can't say 35,299 Moolah for the xbox was atually the same as 299USD

Wil 12-02-2006 03:15 PM

Remember that an Xbox on Oddworld would have to be fitted with an array of differently-shaped controllers. That would jack up the price.

Bullet Magnet 12-02-2006 04:30 PM

And Oddworld games would also be boring... and probably banned as propaganda.

That would be probrably more than 1 Million Moolah. (From what I've read so far, Thats just my estimate.) and that's if you use UPS Space.
