That's why the only cheat I ever really used was the instant puzzle solving one. It also helped skip the bell chimes in a speed run too

I actually really enjoyed the Monsaic lines, it gives the player a break from the game as you literally jump straight into action. It's not just that though, the scenery and the story telling of the Monsaic Lines really brings the game together for me.

I agree with this. I liked the fact it was a quite place where you could kind of feel safe. Made the whole game feel more like a travel. I mean, even on an epic quest your not supposed to be in danger 100% of the time.

That's the same reason for Naughty Dog adding the giraffe sequence in The Last of Us, directly after the difficult Winter levels. Adds a nice contrast and reprieve for the characters. I never thought of the Monsaic Lines in this way, but you're right. It's purpose from a narrative perspective is very similar, and it works :)

JAW seem pretty keen on making anything interactive glow or have light. See: the new lights for the trap doors, electric fields, on levers. I think this extends into the natural levels, too (?) and without prior knowledge of the Elum Pull Ring I can imagine it would be hard to spot it in the new 3D environment with so much misc bits and pieces in the background.

In the original games it was obvious which elements could be interacted with because they either moved or clearly stood out for whatever reason - I think in 3D they have to fight the difficulty of interactive elements getting lost (hence glowing lights on pull ring)?

I like the lights in the levers. It's those little attention to detail things that I love. Like the masked Mudokon tribesman. Ohhhh man I'm loving these teases!

On a serious note, will we see how Elum gets summoned?? Or does he just hear the call and emerge from the background? That would be cool. Or if it wakes him and only the bell/honey can wake him lol

Having objects glow in natural levels doesn't make any sense, though. The obvious solution would be to have them stand out in some sort of artistic way. Probably more difficult than it sounds, though.

I agree the lights on the triangle seem a bit out of place, but I think DrewCameron has the right idea here.

Nep, that sounds already quite difficult to do to me, especially in a consistent way trough the game.

Oh and I guess the blue ball means the checkpoint has been activated.

Its a human response mechanism to go and interact with things coloured green as in this day and age, green lit things refer to correctiveness or the right path. Its symbolic convergence and semiotics, basically used for new users and young users. Sub concious guidance we dont see until its explained. Like the arrow symbol in the Fedex courier company logo.


Communication design101 shit right here, right now.

Semiotics = symbols that give guidance or convey a message or show a relationship with an object or meaning.

i.e. Green colours (traffic lights, correct answer ticks, etc) = things to go to and look for.

Symbolic convergence theory = Essentially evolving and adapting through experience of events with, lets say, the colour green.

It makes sense for the new players, and its an effective way to guide them with out holding their hands, but showing them its a way to go or something to do.

I mean if none of us had ever played Abes oddysee at all and discussed it now after playing it all together in the last hour in some room at a net cafe, we'd all be going "Awww yeah that makes sense. Cool spleens!"

But for the most part, its a safe way to go. I mean, LED lights on twigs look out of place, and lets say, fire flies resting on it would be a cooler alternative. But hey, I like it :)

Guys ; note that as he chants, the birds from the left seem to join the birds (health indicator) circling his head.

Is this some kind of recharging system? Maybe its the quality of the GIF but I'm certain thats what Im seeing?

There are sparkles when Abe possesses Sligs. I think we've put out video where it wasn't showing for some reason, but it's in the game.
