Not "legit" as they are, they're still impressive - +Rep for you. And yeah, making them smaller would make them lower quality. It's a shame that Minecraft has such a low "resolution", and it's been one of the main banes of the RF project.
Don't forget to check out the movie too, in case you missed it. |
They are still impressive. I'll give you some rep too. :tard:
|
Two things:
1) If I haven't mentioned it before, you can find a noticeboard behind the Rupture Farms portal. If you want more frequent updates (but who does? :P), look there. 2) Suggestions for set pieces for the RF map are welcome. :) Players will be expected to make their way through the factory to "rescue" re-skinned villagers while encountering the occasional hazard along the many catwalks and rooms - "Save" enough villagers and the exit door will open, allowing players to escape. While I am coming up with some new ideas for hazards occasionally, perhaps other people's suggestions would speed me up a little. Players will see a credits board by the spawn point in the finished map before they board a minecart to RF, so people who create stuff that I end up using will be posted there. Any idea is welcome provided it can be used in original, un-modded Minecraft, but bear in mind that some ideas are good on paper but end up not working 'cause of Minecrafts crappy limitations (For example I was planning to use falling sand to knock players down who are jumping over gaps, but it just passes through them harmlessly). You're always free to try out stuff yourself in creative mode. :) Also bear in mind that the only mod of Minecraft I'm planing for this will be a texture pack, which won't change very much. There is a way to start redstone timers by forcing the player through a doorway with a pressure pad at the start of a section of a level, so that's not an issue. |
I just tried something out for falling pieces of meat.
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1327793608 Sadly, I falling gravel doesn't inhibit jumps. You go right through it :( I don't have any other ideas for falling meat, sadly. I always loved that part of RF. |
Yeah as I said earlier I already tried that - I was playing around with that today for about half an hour. No dice. :(
I can include it anyway with re-skinned sand (since I don't use sand anywhere in RF) to make players who aren't in the know unsure, and shake them up a little, even though it'd just be for show as a throwback to the original game. |
:
DH, I would actually like to continue creating Monsaic Lines and eventually free-fire zone, Paramonia and Scrabania. Is this okay by you? |
Why wouldn't it be? :P I don't own any rights. Someone else could make another Rupture Farms in Minecraft if they liked and I wouldn't complain (even if I'd see it as being pointless 'cause it's already in the process of being done) - So long as they didn't copy my design exactly and came up with their own way of doing it, unlike that Spanish guy who copied me a while back, even if the design of the panels differed very slightly and perhaps was a little truer to the original. It was clearly based on what I'd done though so of course I wasn't happy - There is more than one way to skin a cat.
Best get your own thread to show your progress though rather than using this one. :) |

Already said before, you can rest assured that the merit is yours and only yours, do not worry. :)
|
If only dispencers could be placed facing down, Then you could have thing fly out of it acting like the meat.
|
You realise that putting a block in the line of fire causes the dispensed object to lose all horizontal velocity and just fall straight down, right? You don't actually need them to fire straight down.
Also, what do you mean by things? What things would make good meat? |
I'm continuing to make little contraptions - There's even a demo of about 5 that I've come up with (thanks, Phylum - Your screenshot helped me a bit for one of them) that can currently be found on the server (don't look at it if you don't like spoilers, though). Of course they're prototypes and will need to be tweaked but they all seem to work well.
The only problem is that redstone clocks are susceptible to "flooding" - Players can stamp on a pressure pad many times to disable a contraption. Anyone found a way of fixing this? |
Excuse my fucking ugly texture pack.
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1327901037 Explanation: The pressure pad is attached to an RS NOR latch, which acts as input 1 to the XOR. The output is attached to an RS NOR which acts as input 2. It also outputs to the clock. When the pressure pad is activated the inputs become unequal and the output becomes 1. This activates the RS NOR, which causes the inputs to be equal again, deactivating the output. The output time can be extended by placing repeaters between he XOR output and the 2nd input. Oh, there's also a reset button. That's what the wiring on the right does. You'll need to use a different kind of clock if you want it to reset automatically. Mine was just to demonstrate. I'm sure you can figure that out yourself. |
Alright thanks, I'll have a play with that later. +Rep. :)
EDIT: Also the texture pack makes it clearer to see what's going on. Good thing I've found out how to transfer redstone current vertically and plan to make a huge cavern of redstone in RF's basement if I'm going to need a circuit that size for every clock I use... :P |
There are probably more compact versions of the gates I've used, and potential for certain aspects of it to be reused. I doubt you'll need every clock in RF running at once.
As to the texture pack, it's designed to make everything really clear. I limited myself to 3 colours for most blocks and ensured I added clear lines at the edges of everything. |
One of the coolest little things in the game was the crate line that ran along the background of the first tunnel in Rupture Farms (I know they're not tunnels. I played Exoddus first - sue me). Throughout most of the first area you can watch crates going by behind you, and that was pretty cool. Dunno if you can make something similar, maybe a looping minecart track?
|
Maybe something using a piston train?
|
I was thinking about having a small pig conveyor start running in the background in a loop when the player enters one of the first areas. I gotta find a way to get Minecarts to pick up mobs though since they don't seem to stay in place if they're already in a Minecart when the map is loaded.
EDIT: And indeed, I've found a way of doing just that. Although it's a little temperamental. http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1327969296 http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1327969296 In fact it's so much less temperamental than the original crappy system I was using for this that I wish I had thought of doing it this way before filming. Would've saved all that pissing about earlier. :S |
|
Well Dark, you've earned a spot on the Oddworld website. Congrats dude!
|
Heh, so that's why it's been getting more views. :P
Wow, I'm truly honoured that it's been recognised - Thanks to them, and again to those of you who helped me with this. :) |
Wow, on the official site. This is serious stuff :D
|
Oh yeah and an update: Last night I had my best friend (Mactus) beta test my set pieces while I watched - There's a lot I learned from that, and I even got some ideas for two more set pieces from it by talking with him about the feedback he gave me, so in future if people try out stuff, please tell me, since I'd really like to watch as you do so. :) It may help me make a better level.
|
We need to make more! Why don't we start out making the last scene, The Bad ending.
|
Any of my time spent playing Minecraft currently is spent on the adventure map, although I as I have said before, I do plan to start trying to make some of the Abe's Exoddus movies and have thought of ways to make them possible (it's a nice round story that is mostly shown through FMVs - Unlike AO's cutscenes that keep referring to gameplay elements) - Although that'll take some modding.
Suppose I better do that while Minecraft is still popular and people are playing it if I want actors. I'll think about it more. |
Project is still alive - Been working 2-3 hours every two days on getting the shell finished. There isn't much to report with that though.

EDIT: Actually to tell you the truth, requests like the following make me wish I was organised enough to let already white-listed people help me with the project - Although I can't since I don't plan ahead far enough, only having general ideas, working toward them and fleshing them out as they go along. They also tend to evolve into better ideas that way. And since I'm a bit of a perfectionist I just find it easier to build everything myself rather than tell others to do it.
I'm still open to idea inputs from others though. =============== The cheek of some people is astonishing! Seriously! I had this conversation through YouTube PMs just now: :

Well, it's the probleme when something yours is becoming....famous !
People starts to ask rude things. No respect of your work...:/ |

Is the same way that "Rupture Farms" sounds like a slasher B-movie from the '80s?
|
Also sounds like a combo of Bioshock and Oddworld - In the early days of construction I remember putting up signs with an Oddworld-related parody of Andrew Ryan's "sweat on brow" speech 'cause of the Rupture/Rapture typo people keep making, but someone blew them up with a creeper long ago and I didn't bother replacing them. Now I can't remember exactly what they said. Ah well though.
Today's been a very good day for progress, BTW - There's the start of a maze now and both Wil and T-Nex have helped me beta test some things (I so wish I recorded Wil testing out the maze, though, it was funny as hell). |
There has been a small blow to my plans. When I finally finish building the map on the OWF server, I was going to export it offline and use MC edit to finalise things, add more details and move things around where I want them - And also make major changes that aren't possible in creative mode without investing lots of time, such as making the entire visible area surrounding RF into a mass of buildings and chimneys - Like the industrial village seen currently outside its front.
However, apparently the lead developer of MC Edit doesn't want to continue working on it anymore (post #5474 if the link doesn't work). He said he'd make the project open-source and will pass development onto people he trusts - Although the future of it seems to be in question. I'll continue building Minecraft RF anyway - I mean it'll take me a few more months to finish this damned thing. If development ceases on MC edit, then given the popularity of Minecraft and the upcoming changes to make it more mod-friendly, I'm sure something will take its place. But it still makes me a little worried. Guess you shouldn't rely on unofficial tools that quickly become outdated... EDIT: And oh yeah and an update: the barrel maze is complete, if undecorated. I've built a spawn point/tutorial level which seems to work well - Thanks to those who helped me test both. Along with Phylum, Glitch has also offered to help me with redstone circuitry in some of the planned set pieces as well, which I'm grateful for. |
I can help with the actor bits for the AE cutscenes. I can even brew some potion to make us look sick for that bit where Phleg is distributing brew to those mudokons... or we can do that with rotten flesh.
|
An update for the sake of updating. Today, RF's station got an upgrade, and I also used it as an excuse to further exercise a basic level design/theme for RF's interior.
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1329398319 Just one of the many things I've been working on lately, but I'm not showing everything. |
Funny, that's kind of how I envisioned the train platform in the W@RF RPG to look :p
Edit: Oh shit you guys! 8000th post!!!!!!!!! |
Grats!

It's UNDER NINE THOUSAAAND

I'm so making an Over 9000 post when I hit 9001...

I can't wait till...fuck I'm off topic
I hope Soul Storm will be good. |
