sounds good tho, i dont see why the 2D stuff shouldnt work for this project seeing as abes oddysee is a 2d game and even though this ones 3D, all the paths and puzzles still work in the same way. the only main difference is that the doors actually connect together now. amazon sent me a link to a c++ book the other week, i was gunna forward it to u but i cant find the email anymore (i may have deleted it) |

OK, I've found a focken enormous C++ engine text, about 500 pages, covering everything from math to advanced logarithms. Gonna look at the best price and get it. You best get cracking boyo, I'll be catchin' you up soon enough! =D
EDIT: Although looking through some of it on Amazon...I hope a B in GCSE maths is good enough to cover this advanced maths! x_x EDIT 2: Better keep looking actually, that's a massive waste of cash otherwise, no way I can understand advanced vectors and every amateur programmer has reviewed the book as impossible to understand due to the technical capabilities required. Still looking. |
STM, i did maths at A Level, I covered vectors, so, if you want, I could try teaching you some stuff. I'd also be interested in learning alongside you about C++ and engines etc.

Well hey there's no harm in it I suppose, if you're willing to take the time. It's not just vectors though, it's those funny E's that look like Z's and massively advanced algebra. I can help you by directing you to C++ books covering core functionality, advanced functionality and the game programming specific functionality as well if you want.

i remember those E things. They just stand for 'sum of'. I'll have to get my old notes out and have a look :p just to double check.

A little bit too much electronic and cyberpunkish but i agree that some of parts could fit oddworld. Maybe some type of power plant... i don't know

hey guys,
i havnt uploaded any new vids for this project in a ges now, just wanna let everyone know that im still working on it. building up the scenes is taking longer than i expected (all the rupturefarms assets are 100% complete though). couple of weeks ago i decided to add the characters into my vids to show off what they will look like and so that the enviroments arent just empty barron places. ive attached a shot of Abe and a Slig just to let you all see them, i have used the original munch's oddysee textures for now (hence why abe has his chest tattoo) but i'll eventually make my own. Ive made the models myself though. p.s thanks to parappa for the textures |
Slig is looking pretty nice considering it's using MO textures.

Actually, I didn't ever think much of the MO models, but they look pretty good come to think of it.

Some of the models from MO look awesome such as the Slig and Scrab, I always found the Mudokon models not quite right...

(For those watching: Don't forget to + rep the post above this, don't accidentally +rep mine!!) That's looking damned impressive for a fan project, Nowtun - It definitely has come a long way since you started. I think you've done a very good job in capturing the vastness and essence of RF, many of the traps and set pieces look great, especially the meat saws and the electric barriers - I can see it all working really well. Guess my only criticisms are that some of the movements of the characters seem a little slow, and maybe the red fog is a little too dark (see the brighter YouTube video preview above, that looks a little better IMO). But other than that, it's really awesome. :) + Rep for you. |

yeah the fog does look a bit dark now that ive uploaded it, seemed a bit lighter on my other pc. and if you mean the mudokons scrubbing the floor, i did them quickly just so that i had some charaters in the scenes. i may revise them for the next set of zulags hehe. thanks again for the rep :-) |

I assume though that you will be placing invisible walls alongside the paths though, otherwise it will be a very frustrating game I think considering how easy it would be to accidentally fall off. |

I wish I had seen this thread sooner! Your progress is astounding, and I honestly didn't think it were possible to recreate AO (or AE for that matter) in a 3d environment without it taking away a lot of the... "feel", or being good in general. I look forward to seeing more. :) |
