MeechMuncher 11-30-2005 10:23 PM

I don´t think that those beetles (The ones with flat faces) are meetles. They seem to be small...
You can see one in the opening credits of MO. If that´s not one of those I´l eat my shorts. It doesn´t seem very big, flying around those signs, saying "gamespeak" and such things.

Havoc 12-03-2005 11:11 PM

Question: What is the guy called that is send by Sekto to hunt the steef before Stranger can find one? I don't think I ever heard his name.

Wil 12-04-2005 01:32 AM

That's D. Caste Raider. It's never mentioned in any FMVs or cutscenes, but if you listen to the Clakkers you can hear them talking about some fella named Caster Raider who's been asking in town about the Stranger. He's called Caster Raider in the game and credited as such, but is called D. Caste Raider in all promotional work such as the Outlaw Character Cards.

I prefer the name D. Caste Raider because of the pun. It was also more prominant in the run-up to the game than it is in the game itself.

Nate 12-04-2005 01:03 PM

Heh. I only just got the pun today.

I just always pronounced Caste rhyming with paste or waste.

used:) 12-04-2005 01:18 PM

I have been pronouncing Caste like vast since I first saw th name, what the hell is the pun?

EDIT: Hahahaha! So THAT's what it means.

Havoc 12-04-2005 01:27 PM

*mumbles some wordplays and eventualy meets the pun*

D'oh! LMFAO.

Nate 12-04-2005 04:51 PM

Oh. At least I'm not the only 'slow' one.

Wil 12-05-2005 10:16 AM

Hee hee hee. You all amuse me more than the pun itself. :) Incidentally, if anyone has any idea what's so funny with Elboze Freely's name, I'd love for you to point it out stoicly to me. Is it just a word like elbows and the word 'freely'? If so, what's to get?

Oddish 12-05-2005 11:18 AM

I don't get it :|

Havoc 12-05-2005 11:27 AM

I think it's like Elboze Freely > Elbows Freely. As in 'He elbows his way around freely'. I think...

Nate 12-05-2005 11:50 AM

I'd just say it was a funny-sounding name, rather than anything particularly meaningful.

Oddish 12-05-2005 12:21 PM

I ment about De Caste Radier.

Havoc 12-05-2005 01:37 PM

Oh. Well if you pronounce Caste as Cast and prnounce his name you get:

De Cast Raider > The Cast Raider > The Castrater

At least I take it that's the pun, otherwise I would have found an entirely wrong one :P.

^_^

Wil 12-06-2005 02:53 AM

Not to worry, Havoc. Your mind isn't so dirty to have come up with it out of the blue.

The fact D. Caste Raider is responsible in part for desimating Grubb culture is an added bonus of hilarity. :D

Well that wouldn't even surprise me, to be honnest :fuzblink: .

Do you mean because Grubbs looks like dicks? Or is that a phallusy?

Munch's Master 12-06-2005 10:37 AM

LOL. I think he means because they look like dicks. Sorry this conversation is just cracking me up. I only realised the pun when reading this in fact. But I'm not just here for random musing I have a question:

Do we know of any of Irwin and Huphrey's co-workers at Vykkers Labs, other than Headley the auctioneer, and is there any info at all about the rumoured second Labs? Much appreciated. Also, can someone show me a scale picture of a Meech compared to a mudokon, as I am not sure how big they are. Are they scrab size (They look related) or bigger?

Wil 12-08-2005 02:53 AM

We don't know the names of any other Vykkers at Vykkers Labs other than the three you mentioned, and we have no references to scale Meeches with. I would guess they are Scrab sized, but only because they look related, as you say.

What's this about rumoured second labs, though? There are other Vykkers Labs apart from the facility featured in Munch's Oddysee.

Munch's Master 12-08-2005 10:05 AM

When you say there are other Labs, are you saying it as a fact or as a query? Well, it was just that when browing the archives I'd read that there was supposedly a second Vykkers' Labs on the ground. Can't confirm it though, just a rumour. And pity you couldn't get the stuff for me. Nevermind though, I'll just have look around sometime.

OANST 12-08-2005 11:04 AM

It's just a lab. I'm sure that there are plenty of others. Some big. Some small. Just because one lab was destroyed with some Vykkers in it doesn't mean that they would shut the company down.

Wil 12-08-2005 01:08 PM

Well, Humphrey and Irwin did found the Vykkers Labs enterprise and are the company executives. It's rather akin to Molluck, actually. He's missing, presumed dead, but there are still factories and franchises on Oddworld that he owns/owned.

The ground Vykkers facility may be the one which can be found in The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants. It's nothing to much to look at, just a sketch with no further description in the Inspiration chapter.

Nate 12-08-2005 04:22 PM

Are you sure Humphrey and Irwin founded Vykker's Labs? I've not heard that stated explicitly anywhere.

Havoc 12-08-2005 04:39 PM

Heh, Abe is making rather quike work of all his factories :P. Rupture Farms, Soulstorm Mining, the Brewery. Those were all owned by Molluck right?

Cullen Heath 12-08-2005 04:43 PM

You know in Abe's Exoddus, in the main lobby? Well if you go down by the Greeter, you will see a "VYKKER'S LABS. COMING SOON!" sign. Perhaps this could be the "second Vykker's Labs" you are talking about.

used:) 12-08-2005 05:29 PM

No, that was just the beginning of the agreement between thr Magog Cartel and Vykkers Pharmacuticals. As for the second Vykkers Lab, I am not sure what you are all talking about.

Well actualy, that would be the entrance to one of the meetle platforms of the FeeCo Depot. At least that would be my best guess, since the sign is infact above a door.

Wil 12-09-2005 02:50 AM

:

Yep, although Necrum Mines is a bit interesting. The original premise of Abe's Exoddus, which was never stated in the game was that the Mines were built because the Magog Cartel had lost its primary source of Mudokon bones, RuptureFarms. This adds to the whole concept of Abe causing more troubles despite his good intentions. But seeing as how Abe arrives at Necrum Mines just one day after RuptureFarms is shut down, we must assume the Magog Cartel have a rapid construction fleet.

No, that was just the beginning of the agreement between thr Magog Cartel and Vykkers Pharmacuticals.

What agreement? The Cartel and Conglomerate have been on-and-off business partners and competitors for yonks.

Meetle platforms?

Havoc 12-09-2005 03:13 AM

Well, yea. The original FeeCo Depot concept art has distinctive Meetle Balloon Platforms at the corners of the building: http://www.oddworlduniverse.com/togg/CA/AE/CAAE0011.jpg

But it looks like they have been taken out, or at least out of view, in the final design.

I meant sort of the small agreements and business alliances both conglomerates have made in the past, like how the Vykkers sold their technology to the Magog Cartel.

were did you read that they were for Meetles?

wouldn't make sence since the industirals only use Mugs

Havoc 12-10-2005 05:00 AM

Vykers Labs has platforms for Meetle Balloons don't they? The shit is loaded with them :|. Or am I confusing those huge blobs with something else now?

In any case, I'd say that those platforms are at least for some airborn way of transport. Meetle Balloon or something else.

Wil 12-10-2005 05:37 AM

Vykkers Labs has docking bays for Blimps, but the only Meetle Baloons we've seen are used by Mudokons. That's not to say Mugs don't have their own version of flight, but I suspect they're more industrial tanks.

EDIT:
:

Are you sure Humphrey and Irwin founded Vykker's Labs? I've not heard that stated explicitly anywhere.

It's in the Oddworld Liscensing Guide, under Vykkers Labs' company profile. The text goes:-

“It all started when two Vykkers with a love for experimentation and a knack for technology set out to make their dreams come true. Neither Humphrey nor Irwin set out to amass great wealth.”
Source: http://oddworlduniverse.com/togg/ind...N/OTUN0005.jpg

So you're right, it's not explicitly stated, but you can conclude it safely.

Havoc 12-10-2005 06:18 AM

Actualy it is specificly stated:

"Humphrey and Irwin are the CEOs and Co-Despots of the highly profitable and far-reaching global pharmaceutical conglomerate, Vykkers Labs."

Since their the CEOs, I think it's indeed save to say they founded the place.

And yea, thats what I was confusing Meetle balloons with: Blimps. Thanks Max!

Wil 12-10-2005 06:32 AM

No, I don't think it's safe to assume that just because they're the CEOs they're the founders as well. It's not like that on Earth and it's not like that on Oddworld. RuptureFarms is currently in need of a CEO to assume ownership of the franchise, but this character clearly won't be the original founder.

Xavier 12-10-2005 06:37 AM

I think this might clear out some questions: http://www.oddworlduniverse.com/toa/...abs/bios2.html

Munch's Master 12-10-2005 10:43 AM

Something I'm confused by is this Meetles/Mugs business. Mugs are used by industrials and Meetles by natives right? And could someone post a pic of a Mug and a pic of a Meetle so I an see the difference.

Nate 12-10-2005 10:54 AM

Thanks Xav, I'd never read that before. Where did that text come from?

Xavier 12-10-2005 11:10 AM

it was from the official VykkerLabs site released by OWI
It was done to promote MO.

I can't seem to find the scanned mug pic on abe babes site...

Wil 12-10-2005 02:17 PM

She seems to have overhauled the design to make it more run-of-the-mill and less unique, and in doing so removed a lot of the content. Seeing as in the last seven months she's contributed an impressive two posts to the Forums and hasn't even visited since the 17th of November, I'm guessing we're not going to be getting those updates any time soon.

I did check the Vykkers Labs text, but it doesn't say anything about them founding Vykkers Labs.

Cullen Heath 12-10-2005 07:25 PM

Im also kinda blured about the Mugs and Meetles, it would be great if someone could post some pictures.

Another thing Im confused about is the Vykkers and the Magog Cartel agreement. And the Vykkers selling technology to the Cartel???

The Magog Cartel is the Glukkon ownings and stuff like that, right?
