What a hideous username he has.

"Looks cool"

jacksepticeye is like the most annoying youtube gamer I know. His recommendation discourages me

HOMINIX 03-16-2016 01:06 PM

The thirst for followers is very, very real

Scrabaniac 03-16-2016 01:14 PM

Isn't JackSepticEye the loud Irish one?

Holy Sock 03-16-2016 01:22 PM

He's a very popular YouTube personality and he had a letsplay of NnT. I'm sure they can get away with irritating the jaded OWF players who will buy Soulstorm anyway in favour of some of that sweet Septic Eye market.

Scrabaniac 03-16-2016 01:26 PM

At least it isn't Pewdiepie.
Then again, the recognition Oddworld would get would be quite big.

Nepsotic 03-16-2016 01:30 PM

PewDiePie at least looks hot and has a sweet accent. JSE makes me want to pour bleach into my ears.

HOMINIX 03-16-2016 01:47 PM

Do you think they would dare depart from the 2D sidescroller NNT format?

Mr. Bungle 03-16-2016 01:50 PM

I doubt it. It's what the series is known for. I can't see them straying too far from the main formula. At least not at this point.

HOMINIX 03-16-2016 01:59 PM

I agree, I think they wouldn't stray from the 2D side view - I doubt they'd take that risk when so many are expecting a somewhat faithful remake of Exoddus. I'm really just speculating on what retelling "the fable from a very different angle" means

Scrabaniac 03-16-2016 02:04 PM

Maybe they mean telling the story from another perspective?

Nepsotic 03-16-2016 02:08 PM

The other side. Literally.
That would be quite cool actually.

HOMINIX 03-16-2016 02:10 PM

That was my first thought as well, but I struggle to think of whose perspective it might be told from... I suppose they could have an AO Molluck kinda thing, where he's watching his progress, but with the branch execs.

Speaking of Molluck, I hope we get to see Lady Margaret in Soulstorm. It would be great if the story opened with Molluck's trial.

Nepsotic 03-16-2016 02:13 PM

I doubt Molluck's trial would be instantly after AO.

I remember reading in the Exoddus manuals about new games, including one set in the afterlife, I think. "Soulstorm" is a very metaphorical word for the effects of addiction (you feel like your essence is in a tempest, yet you still trudge on to get more of what's causing it), but maybe they can show the spiritual side of addiction; the drink IS made from the bones of Mudokons. They're disturbing the bodies of the dead and serving them up as a drink. They may very well be unknowingly drinking their souls' anguish in liquid form. Maybe the game can go into that?

Nepsotic 03-16-2016 02:16 PM

That's dumb. This isn't a Dark Souls game.
It's pretty clear Lorne just thought that Soulstorm was a cool word and wanted to use it for something when you consider AO was supposed to be called Soulstorm.

How come? Rupture Farms 1029, the biggest meat packing plant on the planet, was completely obliterated by a slave. We don't really have any frame of references on how the Magog court systems work/how long a trial would take to set up.

Nepsotic 03-16-2016 02:23 PM

Literally instantly though? Doubtful.

Scrabaniac 03-16-2016 02:27 PM

I thought Molluck went into hiding.. Hence it wouldn't have happened straight away. I would like to see what happened to him though, they kinda just left it and forgot about it (except when one of the glukkons said "If Molluck ever comes back we're screwed!)

HOMINIX 03-16-2016 02:29 PM

In that society, I wouldn't be surprised if Magog soldiers came and arrested Molluck's charred ass as soon as they heard the news.

Either way, I'd love to see Molluck's trial at some point in the game.

Vlam 03-16-2016 03:26 PM

Come one, you guys. Molluck's trial: during MO.

V_O_T 03-16-2016 03:47 PM

I'm looking forward to the Easter eggs they might throw in. Like the zulag in NnT and the broken tram. What was it? Boom bats got into the building?

Sam was mentioned at the end of exoddus, maybe we'll see a snippet of her or one of the other queens.

Speaking of Easter eggs and guest appearances, I'm just going to flat out say after hours of starring at my monitor for that "other" oddworld character that is briefly shown in the background in NnT, that I've given up cuz it didn't show up. It's not the albino slig at Alfs bar in Alfs escape, that was confirmed I think. But I'm summoning Wil to just tell us cuz I'm over it now. Unless one of you lot has found that Easter egg?

Vlam 03-16-2016 03:50 PM

Sam was supposed to appear in MO.

Scrabaniac 03-16-2016 03:55 PM

A lot was supposed to appear in MO.

Holy Sock 03-16-2016 04:46 PM

Lorne talks briefly about SoulStorm on the Lost Treasures podcast at about 60:30. It was recorded before the press release so he's pretty coy about it.

He does mention that criticisms he heard of Exoddus, that he agrees with, were that it's "twice the gameplay but half the heart" which he wishes to address. He also said the game is going to be "more risky" compared to NnT. "Less of what you knew and more of something else".

EVP_Glukkon 03-16-2016 04:51 PM

The fact that Abe is shown to have a responsibility for his 300 instead of leaving the majority in safety off screen, gives me the impression of a much stronger continuity and better established kind of universe.

Most of the lore we know has come off Q&A's and interviews, wiki pages etc. It needs to be in the game.

Please let it be single screen/grid system gameplay.

HOMINIX 03-16-2016 07:22 PM

I think if the game were designed with sidescrolling and non-grid in mind, it could be great. I think the issues people had with NnT's sidescrolling/non-grid stemmed from JAW having to make that work around puzzles that were designed with single screen and the grid in mind.

It seems like they'll be taking more liberties with Soulstorm, so I'm confident that with good level designers they can bring us good puzzles in familiar settings designed around the new mechanics. It would be great to have a faithful AEHD, but I am intrigued and excited about new content. It seems like Soulstorm will be its own game, and in a more meaningful way than New n Tasty being its own game.

Nepsotic 03-17-2016 02:02 AM

Does anybody else think it's weird that they chose a black and blue theme? Surely the bubbling liquid in the progress bar should be green to represent Soulstorm Brew?

Havoc 03-17-2016 02:06 AM

If they retcon Brew to be blue so help me god...
