A friend of mine had a job which involved sitting on a boat for weeks on end not doing anything while they waited for conditions to be right to leave the harbour, and even then, to do any work. So he would download tons of films and games to his laptop in preparation for the long periods of paid imprisonment. This sounds a lot like the sixties equivalent of that.

Nepsotic 10-21-2013 12:35 PM

So much yes.

Nate 10-21-2013 10:55 PM

Eh. There is no way it could possibly live up to the hype.

Phylum 10-22-2013 12:53 AM

I'm going to be on a plane when it airs, then in Europe for 3 weeks on a school trip. I'm going to have to just avoid the internet until I can get back at torrent it from somewhere.

Wil 10-22-2013 05:28 AM

I have no particular expectations of the special, except to learn what Moffat's idea for the Hurt Doctor is. How sad that my anticipation of this program is now purely meta. But I enjoyed the trailer a whole bunch. 8/10, would watch on perpetual repeat.

Phylum, where in Europe?

Wouldn't BBC iPlayer work? After you're back of course.

Nepsotic 10-22-2013 09:45 AM

Why use BBC iPlayer? It's slow and low quality. Torrenting it is a much better option.

Phylum 10-22-2013 01:41 PM

You can't use iPlayer in Australia unless you set up a proxy, and if I'm going to be doing the wrong thing anyway I might as well do it at high definition.

Wil, it's a school trip, so I can't really meet up with anyone :( I'm going to Germany, Prague, and Italy mainly, plus passing through a few places in between.

Wil 10-23-2013 12:58 PM

I was asking to consider how you might watch it, but ok. :p

Will you have any internet access and/or a laptop/tablet/phone to watch it on?

It's only slow if your internet is shite. I can watch the iPlayer with no issues.

Wil 10-23-2013 01:43 PM

Guys, we're all going round Crashpunk's house to watch Doctor Who.

Crashpunk 10-23-2013 01:46 PM

Shit.

Nepsotic 10-23-2013 02:38 PM

I'm going to watch it at the Odeon in Manchester.

Nepsotic 11-16-2013 01:14 AM

Is it an actual mini episode? Or is it the prologue to Day of the Doctor, because that's what I heard it was and I don't want to risk watching it just in case.

Nate 11-16-2013 02:52 AM

I believe it's a prequel. I don't think it's part of the episode. A lot of the recent episodes have had mini episode prequels.

Crashpunk 11-20-2013 04:01 AM

I wish they made more episodes with the 8th doctor. He was pretty cool.

Nepsotic 11-21-2013 06:07 AM

Listen to the Big Finish audio episodes, they're great.

Crashpunk 11-25-2013 09:46 AM

Wow really. Not one comment about the 50th Anniversary.

Well I'll start off by saying it was probably one of the best episodes in a very long time.

Wil 11-25-2013 10:07 AM

It was alright. I might not even switch it off if I walked in on it playing.

Slog Bait 11-25-2013 10:10 AM

I'm waiting 'til I'm caught up to watch it.

MA 11-25-2013 11:11 AM

this thread isn't doing it's job unless it's antagonising OANST.

disgraceful.

Varrok 11-25-2013 11:49 AM

As opposed to OANST, none of Doctor Who's forms were really fat.

On the other hand, most of them were quite old. And grey

Rex Tirano 11-25-2013 01:32 PM

I've never seen Dr Who.

Are there any good reasons why I should?

Manco 11-25-2013 01:39 PM

Not really, no.

Crashpunk 11-25-2013 01:49 PM

There's just something about Dr. Who. It's really quite hard to say what I love about it and why I enjoy it. I think the fact it's a very important show in British television and because I am British, I think I appreciate it more. Saying that. The Americans adore it...

Also you've just gotta love the iconic sound effects.

Slog Bait 11-25-2013 01:59 PM

I like pretty much anything that gets really creative or over the top (no matter how realistic or ridiculous) with what other "advanced races" may look like or how they might function. I also like time related shenanigans.

Doctor Who definitely has its moments. I'd suggest watching it with someone, though, if you ever get around to it. I find it's more enjoyable when you can talk about it while you watch it.

It makes OANST angry

Wings of Fire 11-25-2013 02:24 PM

It has a pretty good soundtrack.

Bullet Magnet 11-25-2013 08:55 PM

It makes my fashion sense charming.
