There should be a DLC code for a pre-order exclusive loincloth.

MM's the Big Dawg now.

STM 10-09-2011 02:59 AM

Was there ever any doubt? No seriously I can't remember.

MeechMunchie 10-09-2011 03:04 AM

High five.

I haven't read the entire topic yet, so I'm unsure if there's a consensus on the talking Sligs yet, but here's my opinion anyway: I think Sligs should have in-game dialog, but they should be related to the current state of the story (I.e. talking about "that wanted employee" just in the beginning of AO, or the destruction of Rapture Farms in the beginning of AE), and should also be unique (Never the same dialog in two different places). Also keep in mind many areas only have one Slig, and since not all areas with two or more Sligs should have dialogs, they wouldn't be either too common or too rare. Another point is that in AO and AE, the game is a bit of gameplay followed by a bit of story followed by a bit of gameplay. Adding some dialogs for the Sligs will add a bit of story to the gameplay itself, allowing the players to be much more connected to the story. :)

AvengingGibbons 10-09-2011 02:28 PM

LIGI, very good last point :). Btw, is Lorne going to voice Abe for any future games? (He voiced Abe in the original games didn't he?) And are the other characters gonna be voiced by the same people who previously voiced them?

Sekto Springs 10-09-2011 05:12 PM

The plot-relevancy of the slig dialogue has been discussed, yes. But I'd say that's one more vote for it :p

StrangerEastwood 10-16-2011 11:46 AM

If Lorne didnt voice Abe that'd be devastating-well, besides AO's "hello". I believe that was someone else...but still, it just wouldnt be Abe without his nasally incompetant sounding voice. Did I just call lorne incompetant?...yup, I sure did. Kind of.

Sekto Springs 10-16-2011 11:51 AM

I'm pretty sure Lorne did all of Abe's dialogue, gamespeak included. Bear in mind Abe's voice changed throughout the series as Lorne developed his character.

StrangerEastwood 10-16-2011 11:56 AM

hence AE's very different sounding gamespeak. Lorne plays most of the chars though-Abe, Munch, Stranger, random Muds...not too much he doesnt voice.

Sekto Springs 10-16-2011 12:00 PM

In Abe's Oddysee, he voiced all the characters.

StrangerEastwood 10-16-2011 12:06 PM

I figured. I think he did all of AE as well...I dont think it was untill MO that he didnt. I seriously doubt he was any of the Vykkers.

Sekto Springs 10-16-2011 12:17 PM

You're wrong on both accounts. They hired additional voice talent for AE and Lorne did in fact voice the Vykkers (with the exception of Headley, I think).

StrangerEastwood 10-16-2011 12:21 PM

Ah, cool. I have been quite wrong for awhile. Thanks though-I was just about to go searching to find out. Anyway, to the task at hand; I hope they add in new secret areas and perhaps more muds to save, if they indeed are restructuring the puzzles. Plus, a challenge mode or time trial would be nice-but perhaps a little too immersion breaking. Still, food for thought and such.

Sekto Springs 10-16-2011 12:23 PM

I don't know how I'd feel about different "modes" in Oddworld. Too gimmicky.
Also, have you tried doing a Vykker voice? It's not that hard. :p

StrangerEastwood 10-16-2011 12:29 PM

I have-sounds like a high pitched mongoloid. just like my muds, but less nasally. xP But hey, this is essentially a new game-perhaps adding new modes and difficulties would be good for it. Plus, gives it some replay value-new graphics are nice, but I'll just play the originals if I want that feel. But then again, we have no concept of how its going to look at the moment.

Wil 10-17-2011 01:21 AM

All the voices until SWHD were done internally. No one was hired as voice talent.

EDIT: Mongoloid? Seriously?

Except for the ones that he didn't.

What I meant was that someone other than Lorne did voices, and were presumably paid for their efforts. Paid extra, I mean. I remember someone suggesting a while back, I think it was Dipstikk, that they hire well-to-do professional voice actors and I disapproved of the notion.

"Ones"? You mean one. So the only thing he didn't voice was the "hello"? So Strangereastwood was right, but he still voiced everything else. :p

EDIT: Mongoloid? Seriously?

Mongoloid is the correct term although more non-Mongolian people seem to find it offensive than actual Mongolian people. Certainly they are genetically distinct. For example 15% of the World's population is at least partly mongoloid, descending from none other than Genghis Khan, but I digress. ^-^

StrangerEastwood 10-17-2011 08:50 PM

Actually, lol, I meant it in reference as a term for those with down syndrome. It is rarely used, as it is considered pretty damned offensive. But hey, fun word. lol

Sekto Springs 10-17-2011 09:09 PM

I'm pretty sure Mongoloid is exclusively used to refer to people with Down Syndrome or similar conditions these days. If you're talking about people from Mongolia, I think the preferred term is Mongolian or Mongol.

StrangerEastwood 10-17-2011 10:23 PM

Correct, the top prize goes to Sekto Springs-Your choice of golden Slig pants or a chippunk on a stick. Oh, and also, I would like to see a level editor. But I suppose that depends on the engine. Heres to hopin'!

Mongoloid can be used to identify Asians an Native Americans as supposedly they evolved in Mongolia. You are (I assume) a Caucasian, though that doesn't mean you live in the Caucasus.

Funny how one vaguely thought through comment can create a debate, isnt it? lol

Phylum 10-18-2011 12:31 AM

Not in this place it isn't.
