After you get the 3DS, you mean. No large purchases before that, or Crashpunk will visit your asshole while you sleep.
|
And believe us, you really don't want a fast-spinning, crazy bandicoot in your asshole
|
I'm revisiting Victoria II, currently playing as Yemen and am trying to create a trans-west Asian/ East African empire. It's about 1850 and I've taken a chunk of Egypt. Take that, ISIS.
|
I was playing Evolve yesterday. Got into the Big Alpha on PS4. Really enjoyed it (After the 2 hours of matchmaking errors, but Alpha is Alpha).
|
I played the Evolve alpha too. It takes a few hours to get used to all the classes but it's a really fun cat and mouse sort of game. Reminds me of the Saxon Hale gamemode in TF2 and a bit of Left 4 Dead.
I've yet to play the Monster. It looks quite hectic. |
Playing Demon Souls and about ready to give up and get a new copy of Dark Souls for PS3. I'm not ready.
Fire breathing armored spider is just one big dose of nope. |
DkSouls isn't really much easier.
|
:
I'm uh...well I'm playing through Demon's Souls. It's my favorite Souls game by far, they got all the mechanics worked out, however clunky they can be. I was playing last night and Chris (Sekto) got summoned as the boss for a certain area for the first time since the game was released ~6 years ago. I'm also playing Five Night's At Freddy's. I have a phobia of mannequins, they make me incredibly uncomfortable and I'm caught between staring at them and looking away whenever I go out. 5N@F laughs at me. It laughs and laughs and then it makes me jump in fright. And it keeps laughing. |
:
|
But DeSouls might be unfair for your advantage.
|
Guys BoI:Rebirth came out and nobody reminded me, so now I have plans today when I should be playing it :<
|
Thats what calendars are for.
|
So I downloaded BoI, but more importantly
REEEFLLEEEXXXXXXXXXXXXXX It's very early access for now. But it's like a spiritual successor to Quake. |
I thought Quake 2 was the successor to Quake.
|
Spiritual successor to Quake. As in it's similar in terms of the elements, mechanics and gameplay yet not having "Quake" in the name.
Speaking of which, Reflex looks a hell of a lot of fun. I love the old school competitive shooters. |
I played a bit, and it's very very early access. You can play it, but only just. The movement is so fucking fun though. Holy shit it's worth $10 to just bunny hop around the maps.
Shade it's the spiritual successor to the Quake franchise, aka competitive arena shooters that aren't Painkiller. Specifically, it's heavily influenced by the Quake 3 mod CPMA, which has also been included in Quake Live in the form of Promode (recently renamed to "Turbo" for some dumb reason). |
Fair enough.
I said that cuz I thought something could oly be a spiritual successor if the game didnt have a successor, but if its the series ur talking about it then that makes sense. |
You can have spiritual successors to things that have official successors. You can build on ideas from a game even if it has a sequel.
|
But isnt that called something different? Like how league of legends is a 'DOTA clone', rather than a dota successor. And how games are referred to as 'Roguelikes' when they are similar to rogue?
|
With games that spawn entire genres, all games in that genre can in some form be thought of as spiritual successors, at least at first. Roguelikes these days have changed quite a lot.
LoL could be described as a spiritual successor to DOTA, but it doesn't want to be, especially given the current market. Arena shooters, on the other hand, are rapidly dying out. This game looks set to take the torch from Quake, so from an advertising point of view it makes sense to refer to it as that. Basically, lots of things can spiritually success each other if you think about it hard enough. It's more about what people say. |
:
That's just my opinion though. |
Ok.
|
I've finished Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for N64. It's a game about a legend, princess Zelda and the Ocarina of Time. There are people here at OWF who completely adore this game and I can see why...
...but 10/10? Hell no! It doesn't hold up well in today's standard. What I mean by it is that the controls can be awful at times. The First-person aiming is so awful you can't even hit anything. The platforming sections are awfully painful and frustrating. You jump into abysses and die over and over and over again not of your fault but because the character turned too much/too little why moving. Also, fuck Navi, I'm so glad that at the end of the game she decided to fly away from Link into the sun and quite possibly burn to death. Also, the game, while it usually doesn't, sometimes can leave you clueless about what you should be doing/what it requires of you to do. Also, the game's story is very plotholed. I think the ending doesn't even make sense. Also, you need to break hearts of at least two ladies to complete the game. It's inhumane! Who thought it was a good idea?! Great game. Recommended. |
The reason why OoT is regarded as the best Zelda game in many people's eyes is because it holds a lot of nostalgia. It also did set many of the standards for 3D Zelda games.
yeah I agree, It's a bit dated. But it's still an incredible game. I love to replay it from time to time. |
Anyone who's played CPMA might appreciate this, otherwise there's next to no contex.
I'd also really appreciate it if people would mindlessly upvote my guide, because the community are cunts and haven't given me enough ratings yet. Nobody's clicking because it has no stars :( |
:
The beginning of Majora's Mask, however... now that's a completely different story |
Ocarina of Time, like Mario 64, basically created the genre of 3d platforming/adventure games. You can't expect it to have all the controls that have been refined over the past few decades. That would just be silly.
|
By that time we had Crash Bandicoot 3. Your point is invalid.
|
Yes, but the Crash games were straight forward, linear pieces of shit, so my point is still very valid.
|
You're a linear piece of shit. And you're wrong. Nothing held ocarina devs to make a bit more fluid movement system
|
E: Damn you speedy shits
Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time were fully 3D with a moveable camera. And were the first games to really define that. Especially Mario 64, which was released in 1997 in Japan. Pre dating Crash, Spyro and many other 3D games. You also have to take into account that the Nintendo 64 wasn't very powerful. From a technical standpoint. It was inferior compared to the PlayStation in every way. It still used carts, and the games ran at around 20 FPS. So no wonder the 3D games wasn't very fluid. |
You have to concede that there were technology constraints, and that they were just starting to figure this shit out. I mean, come on. I'm not even that nostalgic about the game. It is not my favorite Zelda by a long shot. But it was a damn marvel of technology at the time it came out.
|
Well the controls aged a bit, then.
I'm currently playing Majora's Mask. I'm loving the game so far, I've beaten the first giant of four. The game feels better in every aspect than Ocarina. |
This sounds like a textbook case of Seinfeld Syndrome.
|
Ive never played a zelda game (unless u count nintendoland). havnt played a mario game either... Or most of the other classic franchises of nintendo... Ive only played pokemon and metroid, and even then, thats every metroid from prime to 3, not the originals... (except pinball)
|
This is the "What are you playing right now" thread Not the "I never played these games right now" thread.
Also you should. Your missing out on some fantastic games. |
But thats the only way I can be a part of this discussion ;^;
Also, why below rep power are all ur faces green but mine is red? Did he eat some spicy food or something? |
Please don't ask that sort of question in a thread where it's off topic. It's much better to PM a mod.
But to answer the question: It means that someone has given you neg-rep. You can see the reps that you have recieved by clicking on the 'UserCP' link at the top of the page. |
Ok.
(though now I wish this was one of the posts people skipped over...) |
:
It's just the controls that are frustrating. And Navi. Assuming that the first thing is a product of unpolished-at-the-time technology, I guess I can live with that. I can also live with Navi being annoying piece of shit , because I believe she died a horrible death in fire at the end and it was satisfying. I don't have any major complaints besides those. I found the game great and fun. Btw. Flying as a Deku in Majora's Mask (trying not to use the acronym) is really fun and not frustrating at all. The jumping sections are also much comfortable, but yes, it's because of improved camera which rotates in a way making it less possible to unintentionally jump to death |
