GTA games are all overhyped, unfun, boring, uninteresting, sloppily written, lazily constructed drek that is supposed to appeal to this fictional 'good taste bone' that gaymerz decided they developed because they're always bland outcasts lurching around the fringes of society without any idea what makes a good crime story. Furthermore, Rockstar started enacting brain controls and poison gas sprays that are released in constant spore clouds each time you turn on a system with one of their games in it that gives you bone cancer and saps your brainthoughts out through your nose when you sneeze at the highly noxious spores. Ticks and mites breed in your nasal cavity and infest your vocal chords into nasally impotent fringes squealing out combinations of curse words that are the only trigger that a fellow gammer's brain can process and deliver a response to. Eventually you're just a heaving, swearing pus sack with two fleshy claws extending from the skinmass to hold a controller or lay on a keyboard.

That's what I think of your 'Fun game' that you 'enjoy playing', idiots.

Muthafucka.

I have a question to any Metal Gear fans. I haven't actually played any of the games properly (and recently) and would like to try the series, does anyone have any ideas which game would be best to start with? Ideally I'd like to start with the first one but it seems to be a little more expensive than the sequels and I'd hate to buy it then find out I don't like it.

Original Metal Gear Solid is the best start you can get. Furthermore, MGS2 and MGS4's plots depend heavily on MGS1 storyline

Dynamithix 11-13-2012 08:49 AM

you a straight up BUSTA, mac

Plus while MGS3 is set before MGS1, it’s full of references and wink-wink-nudge-nudges that you wouldn’t get without playing MGS1 and 2 first.

I have a status report on Mass Effect – the Mako is fukken illin’, and now the plot has moved me out into actual missions the game is a bit more enjoyable. However, I’m not happy that the game ganked me immediately after a cutscene and then decided to stick the last autosave aaaallllll the way back at the start of the planet.

Vyrien 11-13-2012 11:44 AM

Mass Effect is great, even though the Mako has the most hilariously awful controls, the parts are still fun. I was far less enthusiastic about ME2 though, still played it to the end.

ME3 is just awful, stopped playing about 75% of the way through.

If you don't mind retro games, you can play the original and the sequel, Metal Gear and Metal 2: Solid Snake, respectively. If you don't like too much blocks on your graphics, you can play Metal Gear Solid, but it's still heavy blocked. Then you should play MGS2, MGS3, Peace Walker and wait for Ground Zeros, I guess. Also, a protip from a MGS fan, replay every MGSaga game at least three times, so you can enjoy it even more.

Jordan 11-13-2012 12:04 PM

Thanks for the advice guys. Guess I'll have to risk paying a little bit extra for the first one. It's a shame the games aren't available on Steam, it'd make things 10x easier.

Varrok 11-13-2012 12:14 PM

Buy a PSX version and emulate it on PC. It'd be better (and cheaper), believe me.

Definitely this. Or you could get a *cof*pirated-copy*cof* of MGS: Integral for PC.

Varrok 11-13-2012 12:46 PM

MGS1 for PC has troubles running fine on newer systems, and it's stripped of some features. And you get things like "Press Select Button" on keyboard

Steamer_KING 11-13-2012 12:48 PM

You can also get MGS2:Substance for PC.

Really? I don't use my copy for a couple of years, but I thought it was working. Also, there's a lot of patches to make it playable. That could be a pain in the ass, getting all patches and fixes for your computer...

Yeah, MGS2 for PC is ok, no need for emulating

It was working while I was on XP. It wasn't on Win7. There are fixes that work on non-pirated versions, that's true. But why bother if you have the PSX version, which is just superior?

Well, he have to download MGS: VR Missions to get the same level of gameplay of MGS: Integral, that's the only difference.

Varrok 11-13-2012 01:13 PM

Oh yes. I don't think he's going to finish them soon. These are just levels with no story

Crashpunk 11-13-2012 01:27 PM

Buying a PS2 and the Metal Gear games really isn't too expensive.

I'm not being harsh or non-serious at all. In fact what I said now goes DOUBLE 200% because I think that's how arguments work. HUH? WHAT NOW BUD?!? WHAT NOW? STEP OFF. STEP AWAYYY.

I didn't imply you were being non-serious. I just find it surprising that you can admit that GTA games have absolutely no merit at all.

Can you seriously say you don't think the games are fun even to just screw around in? C'mon, man. Flying cars. Gimp suits. Punches that send people across the world. Superjumps. Just so fun.

But yeah, the story are prettty much hackneyed attempts at mob and gang movies with some petty and uninteresting characters, but that's part of its charm. Plus, the guys at Rockstar have a good sense of humour, and that usually comes through pretty well in the games.

The commercials are annoying as fuck, though.

If screwing around in open world games is what you want, Saints Row and Just Cause both do it much better than GTA ever has, the only edge GTA has is the superior multiplayer.

Also I enjoy the fuck out of Rockstar's stories, and I don't think there is any argument you can make that would convince me they're not on the upper scale of videogame stories, which isn't saying much I admit, but I still think they would be a little bit above mediocre movie status.

Mr. Bungle 11-13-2012 08:27 PM

To be honest, I've never completed a GTA storyline. Got pretty far in GTA IV storyline, probably the only one that really grabbed me. But I found III and SA's kinda generic, from what I saw.

Daxter King 11-13-2012 09:01 PM

Don't worry, I wouldn't expect Mitt Romney to finish a GTA game.

Mr. Bungle 11-13-2012 09:52 PM

I don't get how I'm Mitt Romney. Really. Explain.

Wings of Fire 11-13-2012 10:48 PM

SanAn has good plotthreads, but considering Sweet is a stupid smallminded petulant little shit, I just couldn't get involved in the main story at all.

You spend what? 85% of the plot trying to bang him out of jail while he makes annoying whingey calls at you and then the final 15% TRYNA GET BACK TO DA HOOD YO YO YO and when CJ calls him out on his gormless self-destructive worldview, his only response is basically 'Fuck you CJ, we belong in the gutter.'

Mac Sirloin 11-13-2012 11:52 PM

I just want to reiterate that none of that post was actually intended to be approached seriously and if you did then take a hint next time I start talking about Playstation Death fumes.

I thought this and wondered why people were making full blown, argumentative responses.

Now I assume he was just venting or something.

Poor Mac, he wanted to be taken sarcasticly and funny, and was taken serious instead.
Poor Mac.

AlexFili 11-14-2012 07:07 AM

I only played Halo 2. The series seems okay but not really something I would buy another system for.

I'm delicate, like those flowers that smell like rotten meat that Vultures mate over.

Delicate.

I don't know if this is 'playing' so much as 'keeping up with' but I've been playing the Dropsy the Clown ARG/adventures. They're really silly and fun.
Listen to this:

Dixanadu 11-14-2012 04:50 PM

That genuinely scared me. It's stuck in my head and now I constantly feel anxious and unsettled.

I now have to play the shit out of it until it doesn't bother me anymore.

Phylum 11-15-2012 12:08 PM

Finished The Binding of Isaac 2 more times last night. I'm at 4 mom kills.

I don't know why I'm suddenly good at this game.

Cain is the best character, as much as I love Judas for taking the tedium out of the early game. The pill bonuses are too good to pass up.

MeechMunchie 11-15-2012 12:33 PM

You should seriously consider Wrath of the Lamb. The challenges let you get to grips with some of the rarer items early on, so you can use them better when you do find them.

Samson's pretty cool.

Vyrien 11-15-2012 03:39 PM

About half-way through Lucius. Very fun and slightly disturbing with some irritating mechanics that slow it down a little bit. Nice atmosphere though.

I want to at least beat It Lives once before I get the DLC. I might also try for Sheol as every character, but I don't really know how viable that is. Magdalene is so weak at the start of a run that I usually get impatient and make lots of devil deals, ending in my death even with the Yum Heart.

Dynamithix 11-16-2012 05:22 AM

So, I pre-ordered Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 because I really want to play a mindless shooter again and I sort of want to know what happens in the campaign because I actually did like the first one. Well, it was supposed to be here four days ago but even though the store already sent it to me, someone fucked up something in that process and pretty much everyone who ordered it from them still haven't got the game, including me. Pre-order my ass, never fucking buying anything from them again, now I have to wait over the weekend to get my hands on it. Until then, I guess I'll play the first one's multiplayer mode to get used to CoD again.

OANST 11-16-2012 06:17 AM

Ha. You use the mail.

Dynamithix 11-16-2012 06:28 AM

Considering that's the only way to get games cheap around here, yes, I do. A new game costs 69,90€ in a retail store (so around 80 bucks), but if I get it online, I can get it for twice as cheap so go figure.

I feel your pain man. I do this as well, for console games, that is. Which store did you pre-ordered from?

Dynamithix 11-16-2012 08:49 AM

CDON, it's a Swedish web-store that is also pretty popular in Finland.

I usually use UK-based stores, since they usually have great deals with games. Weather could be the cause for the late shipping, as it already happened with me 2 or 3 times.
