Well I just checked out the server, got Creeper'd right when I spawned in, and haven't a clue where anything is, specifically the apartments. I'm gonna be logging out a lot at nighttime so people can sleep, I can see.

This guy even posed as Notch breifly, so he steals names rather than accounts I think - Minecraft thinks that he is who he's posing as though so gives him whatever skin is assigned to that name.

I'd change your password to be safe but I don't think he has them - He didn't need them to imitate people.

But thanks for the appreciation - Although all I did was happen to be in the right place at the right time and use what the situation gave me to my advantage. I was deliberately given mod powers by the hacker so used that to stop him. It's also fortunate that he was a nice guy, all things considered.

I think that all of the above has been a scheme by DarkHoodness in order to grab more power for himself. Evil sod.

Ok, I've been offline since yesterday due to some issues with my GF, so I haven't been on MC or checked the forums. Nice timing, huh?

I've taken the server offline for now to backup the game world and read up on everything that happened and maybe make some sense of it. As far as anyone knows there was no damage to structures done, so that's good.

I'll see about adding extra security. I'll keep you all updated.

Edit 1:

From what I can piece together from the logs, this is what happened. I got the IP the hacker used from the logs.

Scraby was the first one to log in under this IP and proceeded to ask if anyone was online. When he got no answer he logged off again and a few minutes later OldNile (Dripik) logs in with the same IP. Then the IP is used to log in as me, then Dark, then Dripik again, then Scraby again and then Dripik again.

Then Herobrine tries to log in for the first time but is disconnected because he's not whitelisted. Seconds later, Dripik logs on and adds Herobrine to the whitelist. Scraby pops up for a second, screaming a quick "?!" before the server kicks him again.

A few minutes later Herobrine logs in:

Dark goes on and off at this point, different IP each time (either his own or Herobrine's). Eventually they both get on at the same time and start discussing the weird stuff that goes on.

30 minutes later Scraby logs on again with the Herobrine IP, making this entire thing start and end with his IP.

Fake Havoc logs in with a fake IP one more time before I finally log in for real about an hour ago. And that's the story in a nutshell.

Some strange facts:

1. The IP the hacker (and Scraby) used to log in has never been used to log in to the server at all before yesterday.

2. The IP was used by Scraby when he claimed to be home.

3. Whenever something happened with that IP, Scraby was on either just before or logged in just after (or during).

So, I'm putting the offending IP's on the ban list. If this happens to ban Scraby then so be it, he's now a suspect unless he proves otherwise. I'm not entirely buying this hacker story.

Due to Dark's fast acting during the attack he's going to stay OP from now on. He's earned it in my book.

I backed up the world files just to be safe.

How could this guy even access the server if he wasn't on the whitelist?

How did Israphael get the IP for the supposedly private Yogscast server? Hmm?

Because Notch is a pretty shitty coder and the whitelist probably provides no genuine security against someone who wants to access the server. Hmm?

Some additional info:

When Scraby first applied to the server he said he didn't have a legal account, to which I set the server to offline mode so it wouldn't check account validity, provided he would get a paying account as soon as he could. This could, potentially have been used to glitch with names. I've set the server to online mode again, so only people with legal accounts are allowed on and this should not happen again.

I also changed the spawn zone to 0, which should remove any restrictions in spawn zones for non admins. Both regular and nether world.

Oh cool, so you found the log?

To explain my actions better, I complied with the hacker and was diplomatic toward him just to sweeten him up a little. Or at least try. We were at his mercy after all. I gave him a stack of diamond blocks and added the compromised "Notch" name to the white list both by his request for this reason.

I started writing this before Havoc put up his log. This is what happened yesterday from my point of view - And thinking about it, it seems I've had my leg well and truly pulled. And I suspect Scraby of being behind it too. This is why:

• Scraby made a fuss about showing everyone an obscure sign on the Rupture Farms construct.
• Scraby made what he called a "Herobrine summoning circle" made from gold blocks and Netherack and "was afraid to light it". I got fed up with him standing in my way so I lit it for him.
• Someone called Herobrine signed on with the Herobrine name and burned me and Scraby, then logged off again.
• Scraby started complaining of an "ip conflict" and that the "hacker army" was out to get him, and blamed that on Herobrine being able to appear.
• Later, just me, Scraby and Hulaabeo were online. Oldnile started appearing for a few seconds and disappearing despite him saying that he'd be gone for the night.
• Me and Scraby started getting kicked from the server with the message "You have logged on from another location." It didn't stop me from re-connecting immediately.
• Oldnile signed in and started teleporting me, Hulaa and Scraby to each others locations.
• Oldnile then OPed me seemingly randomly and out of the blue. I seized the opportunity and immediately banned that name.
• Hacker started assuming random names - I immediately banned them all in turn.
• Hacker kicked me off several times to try and use my name to un-OP me, but I was ready for him and acted too quickly.
• Hacker compromised MineTheBacon and asked me to stop - I hesitated. We had the conversation shown in the log in Havoc's post. Hacking the site to prove himself to be part of the hacker army is something I didn't really buy, but I went along with it. Also, "hiding behind Scraby's IP" looked suspicious as well.
• Hacker compromised Notch - I complied with him, see above for why.
• Hacker left. I unbanned everyone and resumed the server, hoping he wouldn't go back on his word.

It was all really strange, but make of it what you will. In hindsight, Scraby is guilty until proven innocent.

Thanks for letting me keep admin powers though, I'll use them wisely.

Aah. Allowing people to connect without a Minecraft account explains everything, I guess, except why someone would bother with our tiny server. This whole thing's a bit worrying and a bit disappointing.

Maybe I should set up some kind of adventure like we thought this was going to be?

EDIT: Hmm. The mysterious signs had grammar far better than Scraby's, but the hacker in the log doesn't...

EDIT2: Not sure if this even requires hacking of any kind. I started Minecraft and tried to log in as "HEEROOBRIINEE". When it (of course) failed, I clicked "Play offline". I then went into Multiplayer and tried to connect to the server, whereupon I was told "User not premium".

Maybe if the server was in offline mode I would have been able to connect with that name just like that.

But I still don't think Scraby wrote those signs. Maybe they're not even connected.

Oh btw, as you can read in the logs there's a chest with 64 solid diamond blocks (= 576 diamond) burried somewhere. New adventure go! Start searching!

Maybe I'm the one who was confused, and it's not him responsible for the signs. The mystery continues I guess. Heh.

It's buried near Rupture Farms/Nile Lair somewhere since the Hacker went in that direction. I heard Scraby later saying "What's this dirt doing here? It wasn't here before" while standing around on one of the hills to the west of my charcoal farm. So he may have taken his own diamonds already. Still, it won't hurt to have a poke around there if people want to.

UPDATE: And I did. Only to find an empty chest. So I assume Scraby has them on his person. Ah well, that's the end of that. :(
