It's impossible to build the shape on the normal server. So don't try.

Hulaabeo 11-08-2012 02:21 AM

Ah, alright. ._.

Splat 11-12-2012 01:55 PM

Um, time is frozen in Ma'Spa. The sun rises a way, then hops back, then rises a way, then hops back...

EDIT: In fact, gravel, villagers, squids, minecarts and, I assume, anything that works via time seems to be broken.

Phylum 11-12-2012 08:29 PM

Which resident Super-villain has been up to no-good this time?

Wil 11-13-2012 01:07 AM

Oh no! The Great Clockmuncher is up to his old tricks!

Bullet Magnet 11-13-2012 04:23 AM

That's my fault, sorry. I delved too greedily and too deep.

Havoc 11-13-2012 04:32 AM

Server has been updated to Craftbukkit 1.4.2-R0.2.

This should fix the time issue, it was a bug in the previous build.

Splat 11-13-2012 08:15 AM

Problem is still there.

Havoc 11-14-2012 04:45 AM

Server Announcement

I tracked down the time problem to the server being at full (100%) memory load all of the time. Since there was no more memory to work with the world appears laggy and ticks are not being processed the way they should.

Since this is often a plugin issue, I started to isolate all the plugins one by one and have narrowed it down to the plugin responsible. Which unfortunately is the Dynmap plugin that provided that fancy map I posted earlier. Apparently it is too resource intensive to run on our small server so I have disabled it. As such the map itself is not available anymore either, which is a shame.

The server runs smooth again now though and is running at about 75% memory. Hope this fixes all issues. There should also be a new Craftbukkit build for Minecraft 1.4.4 soon. Currently there is only an unstable Dev build.

Havoc 11-23-2012 05:39 AM

So... I've been looking at the server activity and noticed that both servers are pretty much abandoned at this point. Some people occasionally log in to do some stuff, but when those two status bars in my signature tell you there is no data available, that means no-one has logged in for over 24 hours.

As much as it pains me to say this, I think Minecraft's high tide days are over. At least on OWF. And I'm trying to decide what I'm going to do with the servers. I'm not going to keep paying for a server hardly anyone plays on anymore, so at the moment I'm very inclined to shut them both down at the end of this billing period (which runs out on december 15th).

Obviously I'd backup both worlds in their final state and I'd happily send the worlds to anyone who wants them (keep in mind, very big files). But if only 1 person logs in for a few hours a week, I would like to call it quits unless someone can give me a reason not to?

I haven't made a final decision yet, but I thought I'd share my feelings on this with anyone who still cares.

DarkHoodness 11-23-2012 06:23 AM

Well if the interest isn't there, then it isn't there... I've come on to the Tekkit server occasionally when I've felt like playing more Tekkit, but I rarely see anyone - But besides that, I spend a lot of time making that RF map so don't really feel like playing Minecraft normally.

It's a shame, but yeah, Minecraft may have had its day with us OWFers. It was fun while it lasted, from March '11... Perhaps we should've made the servers more open sooner back when Minecraft was new and exciting. I guess we have the Steam group if people still want to play stuff together.

Manco 11-23-2012 08:59 AM

Well, if it’s done it’s done. No sense in paying for an empty server.

You could always throw the world files up for download; maybe in a couple different places as an added measure. There’s a lot of history in them blocks and it’d be a shame to lose it.

Maybe make one last set of hi-res map renders, too? So everyone can see the full scale of what was built.

MeechMunchie 11-23-2012 10:49 AM

Don't worry about my Borg cube, I never thought I was going to finish it. Maybe I'll just fill in that top layer so it's neat.

mr.odd 11-23-2012 11:46 AM

That's a shame. I thought about playing with you guys, but i never bought minecraft and i never found it worth buying either. It was fun when i first discovered it, but that quickly worn off. I could never play it for a long term.

I hope you guys find something new to invest in, i might actually join in next time. Really wished i would have for this.

Manco 11-23-2012 01:05 PM

Actually if the server does get closed down, how about folks give it one last send-off? A marathon collaborative build, a couple rounds of custom games, hell even just a group attempt at surviving a few nights and putting a house together.

Phylum 11-23-2012 01:58 PM

We could run around and try finishing off peoples unfinished buildings. If we all pulled together I wonder how far we could get on the cathedral and the underground city excavation by then.

Splat 11-23-2012 02:30 PM

I never finished my dragon egg adventure...

It'd be sad to see it go, but I recognise the sense of the decision. But it'd be nice to have some sort of sendoff party. Preferably one that doesn't involve destroying everything, as that would really break my heart.

Slightly gutted now I start thinking of all the things we left unfinished. But it got old, and when attention started waning it just became less fun.

Crashpunk 11-24-2012 02:01 AM

It's a shame because I've had so many great memories on the server. But yeah Minecraft to me is old. As much as I love the game, I really don't know what to do anymore. and as for Tekkit, I'm terrible at it.

I think if we want to save the server, we should get back on it. Maybe start a new world?

Whatever happens to the server, I would love a copy of the worlds. I don't want to lose the Temple of Time and my Wario Fort :(

DarkHoodness 11-24-2012 02:20 AM

The problem with a new world is that people will get bored with it sooner rather than later, and in the end you'll only delay the inevitable... After a month or two, the server will be empty again. Like with what happened to the Tekkit world.

Perhaps if we held PvP, competitive team-based, or survival events, maybe interest would peak again - But then it's difficult to find times where everyone could be online at once, as previous events have shown.

Crashpunk 11-24-2012 03:47 AM

I would love to try out some adventure maps, maybe with Wil and Glitch :)

Actually your adventure thing is one of the main reasons I haven't made up my mind yet. I know how much work you've been putting into it and I would actually like to see it finished before shutting down. It could be the farewell event at the same time :). Even if I shut down the Tekkit server I would be willing to keep the regular server up for a month longer so you can finish it, provided that's enough time?

Also I've been planning for a long time to do a video tour of the entire server, highlighting every build with some fitting music. I'll start working on that soonish so we have a proper memory of the place when it goes down.

Manco 11-24-2012 05:55 AM

I’ve had a really dumb idea: anyone want to build an Olympic-style cauldron? Build it, light it before we start any hypothetical farewell events, then put it out to mark the closing of the server.

It’s dumb and sentimental but it could work even just as a small collaborative project.

Splat 11-24-2012 12:59 PM

Havoc, I had that thought myself. I'd quite like to, though there are a few issues. Chiefly time, and also that I'm not sure how good I can make it. If you'd be willing to edit in some mob-spawners...

There were a few things I was wondering about; could you put a plugin to prevent explosions breaking blocks (if areas are dark, I wouldn't want creepers ruining things). Also, would it be possible to make it lock night time until the evil is defeated (dread powers and that)?

Manco, I kind of like that idea.

We never did have a Spleef tournament. :(

EDIT: Actually, to make the ending more of a community thing, would people be willing to have different roles to fill in the adventure? So All who wish come along, but some of you I'd give instructions to in advance so at certain times you could say, 'Ah, well I know what happens here...' And tell people what to do next, or fill in an NPC role, or whatever.

Means of giving me more space to work with, and to make more of a tour of things. Obviously it'd take some organisation...

EDIT2:I can't get on to the server; probably shouldn't have updated my Minecraft.

Hulaabeo 11-24-2012 05:19 PM

I had an idea, not sure if you guys will agree with me on this.

If anyone is familiar with Jesse Coxx/OMFGCata, he does these "Outside the Block Videos" where he does tours of Minecraft worlds/servers. I thought we try to give him sort of a tour of our own world. I think it's fairly impressive, with our rail system, massive builds and whatnot.

So, what say you?

P.S: I was behind all the Azkes BS and what not, never got around to finishing everything. Don't kill me.

Phylum 11-24-2012 06:47 PM

I think we had all figured out that you were doing that Azkes stuff.

Wings of Fire 11-24-2012 07:02 PM

I figured it out from this thread alone!

Phylum 11-24-2012 11:40 PM

What I mean is that there were several posts back at least 30 pages ago where we all decided that it was him.

Crashpunk 11-25-2012 02:47 AM

I have plans for my Temple of Time. Making it into a separate map for people to download, I could perhaps try and fix the Redstone doors before that though but I might need some help.

I need someone with MCedit to help me with that. I've also said before that I would like a copy of the entire world. I don't want to lose it, especially genesis. So many great memories...

Splat 11-25-2012 03:00 AM

Hey, I've been thinking about my plot for the Enderdragon Egg. I'd like to extend the final part to cover large areas of the server, with other people running or organising small parts in various areas, and thus make a big event of it, a swansong for the server as it were.

If people like the idea and would be willing to take on a role, say so here and I'll see what we have to work with. Then we can set a date and have some fun with it (maybe around Christmas if Havoc is willing to keep things going that long).
Roles will vary from you providing a voice for an NPC in a certain location, say voicing a villager, showcasing a build of yours somewhere, running a particular event as part of the adventure like a Spleef tournament, or playing a role in the plot. So as I say, if you're interested, post here. Feel free to PM me if there's anything specific you can see yourself doing. Once I know who's happy to have a role I'll put together a plot of sorts. I still need to do some builds for it, and to hear back from Havoc about the stuff I mentioned in my last post (explosions, spawners and time, specifically - I may also ask for some stargates as I'd like to relive some pre-Ma'Spa events that are not really do-able with the new layout of the world). I'll get on with building once the server's up to date.
Anything people want to finish building first could be included if you let me know and I can think of a reason for and there aren't too many and I trust you to get it done on time and it's not too hard to get to.

Anyone would, of course, be welcome just to turn up and join the adventure on the day without any particular task. But if I have a few people to help I can make this a big thing, rather than a walk through a disappointingly un-threatening area where all the work is done by the people who run fastest.

Phylum 11-25-2012 03:12 AM

I'd give something a go, but my Windows computer has died again already, so I don't know how reliable I would be for something like that. With my latest hardware upgrade I'm also probably one of the best people to record things, so it might be better if I was experiencing them rather than reading a script.
