Whats the Currency equivalent to Hell?

New 'n' Tasty 01-17-2015 09:15 PM

Nvm dumb question i'm stupid!

can't wait to see it on steam!

persabe 01-18-2015 01:50 PM

I haven't posted here in years and haven't checked what's been going on in the Oddworld community either..
Here I was, thinking Oddworld Inhabitants had ceased to make games for good, and now we get what I was always dreaming of: a HD-remake of the 2D classic.

Damn, I'm surprised!
Now I just want to see more Munch.

Havoc 01-18-2015 02:01 PM

You must have seriously been living under a rock to miss every shred of news related to Oddworld for the past 3 to 5 years.

SoulStorm64 01-19-2015 10:14 AM

That's the spirit :)

Crashpunk 01-19-2015 11:42 PM

In all seriousness. Not many people use 4K resolution. So I don't see it as a major priority.

If New 'N' Tasty sells enough, that's the plan.

V_O_T 01-20-2015 03:24 AM

I do :(

Recently got this bad boy to play it on. Thats not my room, though I have the same arm stand and LED back lights.

Havoc 01-20-2015 03:35 AM

Okay, aside from the scrawny keyboard that is one badass setup.

Varrok 01-20-2015 07:28 AM

your room is curvy

Nepsotic 01-20-2015 08:18 AM

I'm getting one of those ultra-wide 21:9 LG monitors, I can't tell if that's what you have or if it's just because of that humongous fish-eye you got going on there.

Crashpunk 01-20-2015 08:42 AM

Very nice. Although most games doesn't support resolutions beyond 1920x1080 unfortunately.

I hope New 'N' Tasty does look good on it however :P

Nepsotic 01-20-2015 08:53 AM

Well more and more developers are adding support for 21:9 displays so I'm just crossing my fingers. I think someone should create a "What does your setup look like?" thread. I'm not going to because at the moment it looks like shit. Soon, though, soon.

They usually do actually, most PC games will generally run at 2560x1440 or higher if your monitor supports it. They don't often support weird aspect ratios though.

Nepsotic 01-20-2015 08:54 AM

I assumed that was what he was talking about.

Crashpunk 01-20-2015 09:10 AM

Yeah newer games are starting too have different resolutions beyond 1920x1080. But older games don't. And usually require modding to try and make 'em.

I'd actually love to see everyone's setups. Make it so.

Varrok 01-20-2015 09:28 AM

The game assets (especially textures) won't look prettier in higher than 1080p game resolution, so what's the point anyway?

SoulStorm64 01-20-2015 10:12 AM

Because if rockstar can do it so can youuuuuuuu :D sarcasm aside no it doesn't really matter.

Because even if the assets won’t look prettier the overall resolution will look sharper than an upscaled image?

Varrok 01-20-2015 11:34 AM

I believe I wouldn't see an extreme difference between 1080p with AA and 4K. But that's just a guess

Phylum 01-20-2015 03:52 PM

e: If you run the game with AA at 1080p, the AA is applied before it gets upscaled. The result is still a blurry image. If you runt it at a native 4k, regardless of the texture quality, the result will look better simply from not being blurred.

The difference between Full HD and Ultra HD (4K) is negligible in most normal situations anyway. It's completely useless for any screen smaller than 65" so most commonly sized desktop monitors don't benefit from this at all unless you press your nose against the screen. For TV's you may make out extra details if you sit uncomfortably close to the TV, but at regular viewing distance you will barely, if at all, notice the difference.

I've actually been shopping for a new TV not too long ago and was torn between Full HD and Ultra HD as well. Ultimately, after watching the TV's in the store, I wasn't able to spot a significant difference from a distance. Also stores tend to fool you with the TV settings. I found that the store I visited had the color and black values for Full HD TV's dialed way back compared to Ultra HD TV's (which they want to sell), which made the Ultra HD TV's look better. But when I managed to put the Full HD TV's on the same color level (when no-one was around :P) the difference pretty much went away.

Sharper picture doesn't always mean better. I'd rather have a screen with really good color and black values instead of one with a huge resolution. And this is what I ended up buying. I bought one the last Full HD plasma TV's I could find and while it may not be Ultra HD, the picture quality is much better than what a 4K LCD/LED TV is able to produce. So on that note, if you're in the market for a new screen, stick with Full HD for now and save your money for when OLED becomes affordable in a few years. Then 4K will already be the standard and trust me, the store I went to had one Ultra HD OLED screen on display. It was 30.000 Euro's, but it is the hottest and sexiest picture you will ever see (until even better tech comes along). Nothing can beat it for color, black values and resolution.

I know. Why would you need AA at 4k anyway

As someone who owns a plethora of devices with different screen resolutions, you can definitely tell the difference.

Nepsotic 01-21-2015 08:59 AM

I don't know. I have an LG G3 with 4K resolution and it's the most beautiful screen I've ever seen. You can definitely tell the difference between it and a standard 1080p phone screen. You'd need a magnifying glass to spot pixels.

I think though, on a TV it wouldn't really be noticeable as you'd be sitting a considerable distance away from it.

What devices are you comparing?

Phylum 01-21-2015 01:55 PM

I'm not talking about which looks "better". I'm saying that native is always sharper, and therefor better.

Also I'm fairly sure TVs scale in a different way to monitors, because they handle all kinds of resolutions and make all of them look crappy.

As resident Apple nut I have a handful of Apple devices, some of which have Retina screens. The difference in image quality between my standard pixel-density iMac monitor and my Retina MacBook Pro is easily distinguishable. And Retina is only 2x pixel density, your average 4K display will be higher.

I have my gaming PC hooked up to a TV, and getting the image to even display correctly was a hassle. Some TVs downsample, some upsample, and I think interlacing does something horrible to it as well.

How much did NnT sell on ps4? Just curious to know.

STM 01-24-2015 04:21 AM

£19.99 or something.

Holy Sock 01-24-2015 04:30 AM

£18. But it's going to be £15 on Steam.

EDIT: Oh right, you mean copies. They haven't released that data yet.

yeah i meant copies. I was just curious if they were near their goal of copies sold in order to remake exodus. That is even if its the same goal and the additional dev time hasnt bumped up the cost.

Without them explicitly stating it, the only indicator of how many copies have been sold is how many ratings it has on the PS store. Which is like 9k. I know maybe 5% of people rate on average. Not much to go on.

Havoc 01-25-2015 02:42 PM

The PS store shows 2500 votes for me?

Either way, even if 9000 votes is 5% of the total amount of purchases, that's 180.000 total sales, about 5.4 million dollars in revenue. Combined with the PC sales that are incoming I think they're easily going to make the 250k sales goal. Not too sure about the 500k mark though, might be a struggle unless the Xbox One is really going to perform.

Shade667 01-25-2015 09:55 PM

Ive got 9k in my head from somewhere lol. I havnt recently checked (no reason to go on NnT's store page)

The numbers vary between EU and US stores, as they're different packages. EU is over 11,000, I think.
