The 50th was great, although it seemed insanely rushed, but then again, all of series 7 did. I'm disappointed that it wasn't longer though, I think 100 minutes would have sufficed.

Also Tom fucking Baker, so much yes.

The Americans adore it...

No, they don't. Some do. Especially those Americans that are into British culture the way Joe is into Japanese culture. Most Americans barely realize that it exists.

I meant to say that as in some non-British people love it. Not every American ever. :p

OANST 11-26-2013 10:00 AM

Also, not the majority. Or even a large minority.

Crashpunk 11-26-2013 10:04 AM

People in American and other countries love Dr. Who. Can we just leave it as that?

Varrok 11-26-2013 10:05 AM

You're antagonizing OANST.

Keep up the good work, Crashpunk

People with brain damage in America, and other countries love Dr. Who. We can leave it at that.

For someone who doesn't like Dr Who, you suuuuuuure do like talking about it OANST.

The thread title should actually read, "Thread for OANST to Antagonize Dr. Who Fans." I like that better.

STM 11-26-2013 01:16 PM

Whateeeeever you say.

Disclaimer: I think Dr Who is meh.

Crashpunk 11-27-2013 03:00 PM

Every thread now should just be called. "Thread for OANST to Antagonize everyone and everything."

Varrok 11-28-2013 03:20 AM

Suddenly, everything OANST will say will be on-topic

Nepsotic 11-29-2013 08:30 AM

Or we could just keep this thread for discussing Doctor Who, and OANST could go be not funny somewhere else.

Pfft, like that would happen.

MA said the forbidden word

Shame on you MA

Wings of Fire 11-29-2013 01:21 PM

Isn't the forbidden word bestiality?

I mean, I don't want to turn this into a bestial bestiality thread for zoophiles especially now google knows we exist again and it would be bad for us to be indexed as a bestiality forum for bestiality but surely it's more the act of fucking horses/ponies AKA bestiality we shouldn't speak of.

Slog Bait 11-29-2013 01:33 PM

Everyone posrep Slog Bait for pointing out very explicitly what we are not.

Gross!

Well, I loved the 50th anniversary. I'm not sure I'll like the new doctor when he comes around because I love Matt Smith, but the last series as a whole was great!

Bullet Magnet 11-29-2013 11:17 PM

I watch The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot last night. It was brilliant. I'm impressed that they got Peter Jackson and Ian Mckellan in on it.

I think everyone has doubts about a new doctor. I remember not like Matt Smith for a while. I managed to warm to him though, now I think he's one of the best haha.

As for his series. I disliked quite a lot of episodes if I'm honest. It was just the writing style I didn't like, for example, how it went into the action right at the start. I like some build up.

I prefer the current model, in which we get to witness your most recent persona of 'whiny, angsty little girl" get mad every time someone shits on the things you like. And since the things you like are pretty much universally recognized as being objectively awful, we have plenty more episodes of your tears drying on our cunts ahead of us.

What weird creatures

Bullet Magnet 12-01-2013 09:54 AM

Did anyone see the historical drama about Doctor Who and William Hartnell?

Slog Bait 12-01-2013 10:11 AM

An Adventure In Space And Time? Yeah I saw that thing

Bullet Magnet 12-01-2013 05:01 PM

I didn't realise he enjoyed being the Doctor so much.

Crashpunk 12-03-2013 01:59 PM

He was the only cast member who believed Doctor Who would last.

Oh for fucks sake I swore I wouldn't cry like I did last time.

STM 12-25-2013 11:37 AM

Needs less fairy tale bollocks.

Maybe the new season will be more gritty. Also simpler, call me thick but I had no idea what was going on half the time.

Nepsotic 12-25-2013 12:41 PM

You're seriously saying that series 7 wasn't gritty? Sure, Moffat had a load of fairy-tale esque bollocks but that's his speciality (maybe thats why all his christmas episodes are horrible), but there was also lots of horror. Specifically, Crimson. That was a great gritty episode.

I do hope that the new series will be less childish, maybe an older Doctor will help that.

STM 12-25-2013 01:15 PM

It just didn't seem to stand out as particularly amazing. I just wish they would be consistent with the actual danger different aliens pose. One minute Daleks are terrifying, the next you can kill them by the bucket load, one moment you blow up a planet if you see one cyberman and then they drop like flies. Oh and you can have the head of one as a pet.

Nepsotic 12-25-2013 01:23 PM

No it wasn't amazing, it was a piss-poor episode, but consistency with the monsters is and was never an issue. Daleks are terrifying when you have no guns, and the head of the Cyberman, if you were listening was cleared out.
And what's the difference between them dropping like flies and blowing up a planet? They were a threat, so they must be eliminated by any means necessary. If you have better weapons which can kill them why blow up a planet?

STM 12-25-2013 02:07 PM

Daleks are supposed to be scary full stop, the whole 'four daleks is enough to destroy the world,' thing that the Cult of Skaro played on, those four were just as dangerous as an entire fleet. The cybermen are supposed to upgrade whenever they encounter a new danger which was supposed to be the big new twist that actually made them an enemy you don't laugh at but they still were absolutely shit today.

Crashpunk 12-25-2013 04:36 PM

I didn't watch it. But I heard it was very anti-climatic.

Nepsotic 12-25-2013 04:39 PM

It wasn't terrible, but it was just pretty boring and average. Wasn't exactly The Parting of the Ways.

Phylum 12-26-2013 04:08 AM

It was corny and lame in a way that I can forgive it for because it was a Christmas episode. It was different from a regular episode, and it tied up all of the stupid shit from the last few seasons. I was glad to see Smith take his death better than Tennant did. It still dragged on a bit, but in a much more forgivable way. I'm keen to see a new Doctor in action, because honestly Smith was just Tennant again.

I watched the 50th today too. It wasn't perfect, but it was a hell of a lot better than anything else Moffat has written recently. He can do amazing things with that extra time. I liked the way they played with the younger Doctor seeming older, and they really did a good job of pulling gravity into Hurt's decision. There was definitely some fanservice in there, but the bits that were actually contributing to the episode where generally really well done. The scenes in the gallery with the statues were scary and the premise of the monsters was pretty good. I feel like that subplot needed to be there, even if it was totally forgotten by the end of the episode.

I was ready for the 3 Doctors to push the button and destroy everything, erasing Moffat and Tennant, and leaving Hurt to regenerate into the new guy. I've liked Clara, but my god she was asking for a slap when she opened her big mouth in there. The ending could have been more dramatic, and the conclusion didn't totally make sense.

Also, what was up with the Doctor aging so much in 300 years in the Christmas episode? Wasn't there 400 between the start and end of the last season?

Sorry guys, I'm bored.
