Yessss it's finally downloaded. Hope it's good :D

Havoc 04-26-2012 01:23 PM

May 8th, Portal map editor DLC. FUCk. YEAH. I'ma make some super hard puzzles!

DarkHoodness 04-26-2012 01:33 PM

Valve certainly know what they're doing, I look forward to this. :)

Phylum 04-26-2012 04:00 PM

I tried learning to use Hammer, but I got bored of it pretty quickly. I'm really excited about this.

Crashpunk 04-27-2012 07:30 AM

And there is also what looks like Meet the Pyro on a PC.

Havoc 04-27-2012 07:40 AM

Ooh Valve...

Wil 04-27-2012 09:50 AM

So Aperture not only created a handheld portal device to use as a shower curtain, they established communication with every parallel Earth in the multiverse just to create test chambers. I wonder what proportion of them are under Combine control.

IT'S ALL CANON

OANST 04-27-2012 09:58 AM

These fuckers need to tell us that a new game is coming out soon. And I don't give a shit about DoTA.

I really wish you had said 'I tried learning to use Hammer, but it was too hard.'

OANST 05-08-2012 06:36 AM

Except that Valve released a press statement saying that no new games will be announced at E3 this year.

Steamer_KING 05-08-2012 06:46 AM

Then...you're screwed...as we all are.

DarkHoodness 05-08-2012 06:52 AM

Let Valve take their time, that's why their games are so awesome. Stuff can't be rushed and it's not like they promised anything to anyone.

There's a new Portal 2 DLC out today at least. Or if not, sometime this year anyway, I hope, counting for Valve time and all. :)

xXxrenhoekxXx 05-08-2012 06:55 AM

it's may 8th where I live... guess it wasen't implying my time zone or it's a midnight release :fuzconf:

Well.... They did promise to have Episode 3 out about four years ago.

I get what you're saying, but...you've seen what too much time have done to Duke Nukem, right? It wasn't because it was only a bad game, it happened because it was a bad game AND it had too much hype. I think development has a certain time to get it right, but HL fans are waiting for years for a new episode.

xXxrenhoekxXx 05-08-2012 07:21 AM

didn't I hear something a few E3s back about valve making "project freeman" or something and they confirmed it wasn't hl2e3?

or am I an idiot and missed when they revealed what it really was.

MeechMunchie 05-08-2012 09:06 AM

Well, on the subject of Portal 2... This video isn't great, but you get to see the editor working.

dripik 05-08-2012 10:22 AM

The update has just been released. Start those downloads people.

DarkHoodness 05-08-2012 01:36 PM

Portal 2's PeTI is really fun! :)

I imagine that part of the fun of this would be to watch others try to complete your maps. So do you want me to record myself failing over and over while trying to complete YOUR map? Send me a PM with the details of how to find your map on the Steam Workshop and I'll upload a playthrough to post here (just don't expect a running commentary from me, I'm not much of a verbal talker even though I like to type a lot).

EDIT: Dripik (Old Nile) made the following map, although why not go play it first before watching me?

Havoc 05-08-2012 04:51 PM

Just played trough that one, very nicely done. Also tried to play the one Chubfish made but I got stuck :(

Here's my first one. More to follow I'm pretty sure.

Aaand nothing. It's not updating.

:(

DarkHoodness 05-09-2012 02:59 AM

Try loading Portal 2, it should update then.

Phylum 05-09-2012 03:29 AM

The problem was in the Steam Download limiter that I forgot I was running. I guess my local content server isn't hosting it right now.

DarkHoodness 05-09-2012 07:00 AM

Quickstep by Havoc, get it here first.

Crashpunk 05-09-2012 09:22 AM

I tried to make a map on Portal 2. It worked for a bit but then it said "unable to load map".

The test was really simple and only had a few stuff so it couldn't of been because there were too many objects. I must of messed it up somewhere though.

Varrok 05-09-2012 09:26 AM

You should try defragmenting game's cache. Or try looking whether a new, clean map loads

Havoc 05-09-2012 09:29 AM

Chamberception #1 - Navigate yourself trough a series of chambers. Complete each chamber to advance to the next and find your faithfull Companion Cube to complete the course.

I would love to see some footage of someone playing this one. I already laughed at the cleverness and foolishness Dark went trough playing my first map :p.

Chubfish 05-09-2012 04:59 PM

Bridge Hopping is basically a more advanced chamber, you must know how hopping works and then use that on the edge of light bridges to advance across gaps. Difficulty increases as the level progresses (solution below).

Also I managed to solve some of the "unsolveable" chambers that people made, mainly these 2:

"IMPOSSIBRU MAP" and "Friendzone". Note that I still think they should make it so you have to solve a chamber once to even publish a map.

No footage from me, I'm afraid, but I did try both of those maps. Quickstep was good, I liked the liberty you left to the player in solving it, after completing it, I was surprised how different Edd's approach was to it. I managed to launch myself up to the button in the middle by getting to the platform with the laser and putting two portals at the right places on the floor, going around the whole lightbridge concept.

Chamberception #1 is still waiting for me to finish it. I may have managed to smuggle some blue gel into the room with the orange gel, I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be done, but eventually it got in the way. That is, it bounced me into the acid pit. I shall make another attempt when I get home from work.

xXxrenhoekxXx 05-10-2012 01:40 AM

not sure about you guys but I'm making mari0 portal level (I'm registered at their forums) in portal 2s level editor (got a vid on development so far.)

How is Friendzone unsolvable? I just went trough it after he fixed a door problem and got trough it without a hitch.

Edit: Nevermind, different map, same name.

Chubfish 05-10-2012 08:43 AM

Speedrun of Havoc's "Quickstep" in 36 seconds here:

Crashpunk 05-10-2012 09:01 AM

Christ that was good. Your like a Ninja

Havoc 05-10-2012 09:04 AM

I know right? This guy finds way I hadn't even envisioned.

MeechMunchie 05-10-2012 09:22 AM

I liked Cave's voiceover.

Chubfish 05-10-2012 09:41 AM

I managed to save 6 seconds (and use less portals) by not messing up as much:

I don't think I can save any more time unless I can get to the ground faster from placing the cube but oh well. Fun chamber.

On a similar note, someone speedran my Bridge Hopping chamber in 52 seconds which impressed me:

DarkHoodness 05-10-2012 04:12 PM

Havoc's Chamberception #1 was a bastard to complete, it took me about an hour. I spent most of this evening cutting the footage down to 24 minutes, though.

Skip to around 16 minutes in if you want to see me get frustrated 'cause I wasn't doing the test in the way I was supposed to. :)

It's a really awesome and challenging map though. Go download it from the links above if you haven't already.

EDIT: Also the roof of my study is thin - When it rains it gets noisy in here. That's why it sometimes sounds like there's a rockslide going on in the background.

MeechMunchie 05-10-2012 11:42 PM

I'm making a gauntlet room, where you just stand still and let faith plates hurl you between lasers and other hazards.
