2.5D just to clear that up. This is the 21st century after all.

crimsonxking 08-23-2010 03:48 PM

2D > 2.5D

Fatherbrain30 08-23-2010 04:08 PM

No it is not. http://selectstartgames.files.wordpr...pg?w=256&h=245 http://www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-...screenshot.jpg

They're not going to make a 2D game when they can make a 2.5D one just for the sake of your nostalgia.

Daxter King 08-23-2010 05:10 PM

Saying 2D is better than 2.5D or vice-versa is just stupid, it depends on the individual game's art style.

Fatherbrain30 08-23-2010 09:04 PM

Come on, you wouldn't like to see an Abe Game in 2.5D?

Phylum 08-23-2010 10:43 PM

I'd like to see an Oddworld game looking like an oddworld game.

That makes no sense at all?, please explain.

Phylum 08-23-2010 11:25 PM

That was vauge. Maybe it's contageous :p

Oddworld games have lush, rich and detailed environments. I want to see these return.

Yer I know, like in MO the forest levels were amazing.

I want to play the MO you played.

HD to the max, on mine.

ColgateCat 08-24-2010 12:04 AM

MO had nothing so special, and level design wasn't that interesting

GABBITS OWN 08-24-2010 12:41 AM

Were so, MO was AWSUM!:fuzcool:

STM 08-24-2010 12:42 AM

Hmm, reading my previous comment, I meant the general market but I was wrong I guess, I do still love the platformers and prefer them to MO in 3D. I agree, the environments in AO / AE where great and it would be great ot see them again, if they could detail it better than SW, would be great in 3D as well!

no, they wernet, they were just like any other forest level, and thats what were talking about, we want the, dark, deep, feel of the two original games, i remember in paramonia, there was a part where the camera passed over to another part of the level, and you could actually see a river of water on the surface as it was passing over, and the water was running.

Okay, I think paranomia was good.

lismati 08-24-2010 05:38 AM

Personally I love MO, I can even restart the game 30 tımes a day to play Vykkers Labs over and over, but I thınk nothıng can be better than AO or AE. (Unless somethıng new wıll be so go(o)d, that I wıll change my mınd)

Rayrockslots 08-24-2010 06:27 AM

The best thing about MO was Munch and Abe. The worst thing by far was the gameplay, it wasn't bad but when compared to the previous games it stunk. So long as there IS an Oddworld game/movie coming I am not going to be picky, i'll be happy.

Unless it's shit

OANST 08-24-2010 07:50 AM

Stranger's Wrath had fantastic forest levels. That game had me completely immersed in it's world. MO just had me bored with it's world.

Hear, hear. Stranger's Wrath had some fantastic locations that were reminiscent of AO & AE in some ways, but was entirely its own unique landscape.

All I'd like to see is a third and final Abe adventure, "Abe's Illiodd" or something, but in 2.5D. I think its expected that a new game in the series has to be 3D to some extent. I'd hate for it to be 2D. What purpose would that serve?:fuzconf:

Sometimes I even like visualising what the old games would look like in current gen 3D, and to be honest, I think carrying out such a project would be a sure way to win over a new generation of fans..?

Mr. Bungle 08-24-2010 11:31 AM

I've never even played Stranger's Wrath. It just never appealed to me. I played Munch and enjoyed it, though not as much as AO/AE.

acemind 08-24-2010 10:00 PM

i hope they make a munch's exodus, and amped up the graphics alot.

Fartuess 08-25-2010 03:03 AM

@Acemind

There are less than ten people in JAW, so don't expect too much. Graphic probably be better, but only because MO have poor graphic and it isn't problem for experienced artists to beat it :)

How experienced are JAW though? I heard they have a pretty impressive game developing history between them? I mean Gravity Crash wasn't especially amazing graphics, but I guess a nostalgic retro game didn't require asuch.

It'll be interested to see what they're capable of with the 10 they have.

How many employees did OWI have back in the day? Anyone know?

STM 08-25-2010 05:40 AM

I don't think gravity crash should have been a PS3 game tbh. I hope whatever they do is a bit better, I suggest a 2D or 2.5D game because it's easier to come off with a decent level because backgrounds can be implemented, perhaps even a Resident Evil 2 type thing with pre-rendered graphics.

Since when did 2D have to equal "NES graphics?"

lismati 08-25-2010 07:28 AM

That's SNES :P Super Marıo World. Anyway 2.5D are far more popular than pure 2D now.

I wouldn't mind a capcom inspired Dino Crisis/Resident evil overhead Oddworld game. Could be interesting. What do you mean by pre-rendered graphics though? Like Broken Sword or what?

I haven't played a Mario game since I was a little kid. Looked like Mario 3 to me. But, regardless, my point stands. A 2D game can look fantastic without being 2.5D nowadays. We aren't running on 16-bit systems anymore.

Phylum 08-25-2010 05:52 PM

Blazblue.

That is all.

The year is fucking 2010, pre-rendered backgrounds can fuck off.

Xavier 08-27-2010 11:54 AM

I have to agree with Daxter King on this one... it really shouldn't be an issue to make things dynamically rendered anymore.

GlukkonGluk 08-27-2010 11:59 AM

OWI's cinematic scenes in the previous games are very impressive, I've always said so.

Ofcourse, but there's no reason nowadays that a game can't look that good and better without prerendering. Having said that, perhaps the necessity of pre-rendering back then actually inspired the amazing still backgrounds of the Abe games. Having dynamic characters and objects seamlessly moving across a non-moving world of art was what made the games so good.

I personaly prefer AO and AE environments! They were way more original than the ones in MO!
