Catch-22

I win :D

But seriously, the book wins. The best thing I ever read!

Wings of Fire 08-14-2009 10:20 AM

Yeah, American Gods really was the best fantasy novel I have ever read.

Onto Animal Farm now!

Wings of Fire 08-15-2009 10:28 AM

Finished Animal Farm in a night, I can´t believe it took me so long to get to it considering what a work of sheer and utter brilliance it is (Although I didn´t get some of the more subtle connections (Moses, Jones, the neighboring farms, Boxer, Major, Napolean and Snowball I got, most of the rest I didn´t and I´d like to have known what Benjamin was supposed to be).

Back to reading Ulysses now then.

Mac Sirloin 08-15-2009 10:33 PM

I'm reading The Lovely Bones under recommendation of a friend.

Gee, thanks for telling me the main character is a 14 year old girl, Jordan, I totally didn't get weird looks because of that.

It's written really irritatingly. These big ass paragraphs describing shit that seems like filler. I hope I lost it, I don't really care that much.

MA 08-27-2009 12:15 AM

started reading James Herriot - The Lord God Made Them All. classed as a Biography/Humour about a farm vet just after the war. funny because its all true, and something i can relate to.

The Gospel according to Chris Moyles
The Book of General Ignorance (QI)

Ridg3 09-02-2009 12:03 PM

I'm currently reading the Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind, I've already read them before its just that the series Legend of the Seeker has recently been aired for UK viewrs so I decided to re-read them, very interesting books.

By the way, the series really doesn't follow the books which kinda confuses me sometimes.
I EXPECT MOAR ACCURATE CANON.

Wings of Fire 09-02-2009 12:08 PM

Ewwww. D:

Am reading The Castle by Franz Kafka.

OANST 09-02-2009 12:14 PM

Livin' like a bug ain't easy. My old clothes don't seem to fit me. I got little tiny bug feet, and I don't really know what bugs eat. Livin' like a bug ain't easy.

Wings of Fire 09-02-2009 12:16 PM

Read that one already, I like his labyrinthine nightmare bureaucracies better.

But do you know what that little ditty is from? Anyone? Someone has to know this.

Without doing an internet search.

How dare you sir for Eww-ing my choice of literature, you make me so angry I...I...I need to pee. :)

OANST 09-02-2009 02:39 PM

Man, you people. You damn people.

Edit: I put the better one up.

Wings of Fire 09-02-2009 02:41 PM

Yeah I looked that up almost immediately, fucking hilarious. 'The Franz Kafka Rock Opera'.

Psychocath 09-09-2009 05:41 PM

Reading a Russian language book. Because, ja, I want to be able to speak it and write shit in cyrillic. So far the only words I've managed to learn are 'Yes', 'No', 'Petrol', 'Party' and 'Blowjob', because I've been lazy.

Mac Sirloin 09-09-2009 07:13 PM

I have some 'learn russian from some CD's' CD's. I could probably rip those and then PROVIDE YOU WITH A VIABLE LEGAL METHOD OF OBTAINING THEM.

Send me a PM.

MeechMunchie 09-10-2009 08:14 AM

I speak some Russian. Меня зовут МичМунчи, y меня есть ворсием столовайи. (My name is MeechMunchie, I have eight dining rooms.)

used:) 09-10-2009 09:44 AM

I only know a few words in russian. I know plenty of vulgar words and phrases from other languages though.

Munch's Master 09-10-2009 09:59 AM

Just started reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I'm on page 0- I've only had chance to read the introduction and foreword so far. He's very....colourful when writing as himself.

Kimon 09-10-2009 03:49 PM

I just finished Watership Down, and am now seriously considering getting a tattoo with the phrase "Listen to Fiver" somehow involved

Hazel-Rah 09-14-2009 01:44 PM

I read a graphic novel adaptation of Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" it was pretty depressing. I have to read "Brokeback Mountain" for class I'm probably going to be reading it at work or something err too busy to enjoy books...

Kimon: It was El-ahrairah who came to Hazel at the end of the novel, agree or disagree?

Wings of Fire 09-15-2009 12:44 PM

Read the graphic novel adaptation of The Trial, it's so depressing it's funny.

CakeSnatcher 09-15-2009 12:49 PM

Everyone should read The Zombie Survival Guide.

used:) 09-15-2009 02:57 PM

No, everyone should read The Pirates! series. I just finished the second book in the series, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Whaling.

To be honest I didn't even consider it. But that would definitely make sense... hah, goes to show how concerned I am with literary analysis. :p

skillswords 09-20-2009 05:22 PM

i'm currently reading a tail of two cities, just finished Demons by Fyoder Doestrovosky
did i mention i despise foreign names

Nate 09-20-2009 05:31 PM

Did I mention I despise poor grammar? Please improve your posting style or fear my wrath.

Strike Witch 09-20-2009 05:39 PM

I just read 557 chapters of One Piece.

S'good, I love how the author disguises oppression and censorship behind a funny pirate story.

Mac Sirloin 09-20-2009 07:09 PM

I read all the way through to the VERY START of the chapter after the 'Sky land' one (starting from the Arlong arc), then just fucking dropped it.

Strike Witch 09-20-2009 07:15 PM

Should have stuck with it, Water Seven really expands and takes it to the serious shit end of the pool.

Mac Sirloin 09-21-2009 04:40 PM

It's not that I didn't like it, I think my laptop broke and that was the end of it.

T-nex 09-21-2009 04:51 PM

Has anyone read "Pillars of the Earth"?? I thought I would hate it, but I ended up loving it. It's a really exciting book.

Mac Sirloin 09-21-2009 05:26 PM

Edit: Never mind, thought it was something else.

Disgruntled Intern 09-22-2009 03:43 PM

re-reading Post Office by Bukowski. I still think it's meh, and I still feel like a sad, contrived asshole for even lifting one of his books up. At least I'm not moodily reading it in starbucks, I guess.

...I do all of my moody readings on the toilet.

Mac Sirloin 09-22-2009 05:58 PM

Started Reading "Up Till Now", the William Shatner Autobiography. I like it a lot.

Wings of Fire 09-22-2009 11:58 PM

Reading Roland Barthes's Mythologies, it's funny how one of the cornerstones of modern literary theory was expanded and explained in an essay about pro-wrestling.

Everyone should read The Zombie Survival Guide.

I've actually wanted to, as well as a good deal of other books in the humor sections. But damn, I just hate the thought of shelling out 10-15 bucks for something I'll knock out in a day, maybe two.

In terms of what I'm reading right now, college dictates my literary life. Got a test covering A Midsummer Night's Dream and Merchant of Venice tomorrow (a couple of Shakespeare comedic plays, for the odd person or two unfamiliar with classic staples...). Plus my mass communications textbook for my other test tomorrow, and my German textbook for my third test tomorrow... But those aren't nearly as interesting or meaningful.

Think about it this way: You're shelling out 10-15 bucks for something that they knocked out in a year, maybe two. Maybe longer.
