But it makes you look evil

Rats? The Raisin?

Bullet Magnet 06-05-2007 05:27 AM

Everyone knows that they're the true dark masterminds.

Nate 06-05-2007 05:58 AM

I always have been suspicious about The Raisin's true intentions. Especially since that inadvertant 'typo' on oddworld.com that stated "Raisin's Liar"...

Ajiellyn 06-05-2007 02:04 PM

I have a lot of questions regarding Oddworld for the map for the MMOSG; if there are no official answers, I'd appreciate just knowing the most supported theories ^^

I hope this fits in this thread, and that it doesn't seem like too much...

1. What is known about how Mudokons are born into slavery? Would there be birthing complexes inside factories? If there are, would there be birthing complexes for Sligs too? Any idea what those complexes would look like?...

2. Any idea what the living quarters for factory slave Mudokons is like? What they had to sleep on; what they ate?

3. Is it possible, or if so, common, that Sligs had living quarters in factories?

4. May I request GameSpeak? I believe someone submitted an Abe's Exoddus soundtrack rip awhile ago that included the GameSpeak, but you can't download the GameSpeak alone, and I have a terrible internet connection to download the whole thing... Can anyone send me just the GameSpeak?

5. Lastly, is there ANY way known by any weird computer trick to get the music in the PC versions of the games to stop playing? I'm trying to record GameSpeak without interference and it's impossible sometimes :x

Sorry for so many questions and requests and stuff!

Paramite of War 06-05-2007 02:10 PM

Xavier I am using that pic but I need a pic with his full body and the same goes for a grub

Slaveless 06-05-2007 03:28 PM

I will do my best to help you Ajiellyn.

1. There is not an exact known number of Mudokons that have been born into slavery. I would have to guess around millions, since it has been clear that Mudokons are used in facilities for very short periods of time. By that I mean maybe a number of years. But yes, Mudokons are born into factories. There should be some sort of birth system in factories, as Abe's backstory says he was born in Rupture Farms. Yet Sligs are unknown. Some people suggest that they are grown in training faclities and then sent off to Slig Barracks. These birthing complexes are unknown to myself, as little is known about them. Mudokon birthing units are just probably non-special locations where Mudokons just happen to hatch.

2. Mudokons seem to live in cage like areas, as suggested in conception art from design artist of Abe's Oddysee. Some might be hanging as said in the conception art, but others believe they are on the ground. They would have simple bedding, nothing fancy for a slave. Also, Mudokons probably consumed products made by Glukkons. (such as SoulStorm Brew and Scrab Cakes)

3. I don't believe Sligs have much of living quaters. They probably have locker rooms instead, with sleeping bags placed against the wall. Others may just sleep on the job.

4. For years people have been trying to get the GameSpeak down onto a file. No such luck.

5. I don't have any hacking abilities that I know of, sorry.

If you’re up for the challenge, you could just take existing images and reduce the backgrounds to black using image manipulation software.

Labour Eggs are shipped out to nurseries. RuptureFarms has its own nursery, where Abe was born. Alf had a ‘Foster Slig’, so maybe this is a standard way of raising Mudokons. But there is evidence which suggests that some/all Mudokons are born with Sam. Personally, I’m not placing too much faith in that until we have more concrete evidence.

Sligs are born in a Slig birthing complex, yes. Whether this is part of the same complex as Skillya’s lair, or whether eggs are shipped to a single or multiple complexes, I don’t know.

3. Is it possible, or if so, common, that Sligs had living quarters in factories?

I imagine Sligs live where they work, at least in the outlying factories we’ve seen so far. Urbanite Sligs: who knows? Slig commuters could be funny.

Killy’s rip does indeed have GameSpeak. I’ll send you the files individually, if you like. :)

This sounds like an ace objective! Likewise, is there any way to disable sound effects to just play and enjoy the music?

Ajiellyn 06-05-2007 04:44 PM

Thank you so much Slaveless and Max for such swift and complete answers ^^ I suppose I'll keep trying for the GameSpeak that is not in the menu; though Max, can you send the GameSpeak you have from Killy's rip? :D I'll PM you my email address.

Slaveless 06-05-2007 05:24 PM

You are very welcome Ajiellyn.

@Nate_dog_woof: I didn't really mean that is the number of the population for Mudokons. I meant like how many Mudokons over all were born into slavery. Which would be quite high.

Yet, wouldn't the population of Mudokons be around maybe 1 million? I mean, Mudokons don't necessarily all work in Mudos, and I'm pretty sure there is a lot more facilities that we haven't seen yet.

Wil 06-06-2007 04:51 AM

:

()
Mudos is actually a small continent - I remember Lorne comparing it to a European country once, but I forget which one.

It was either Nicaragua or Nigeria. On OWF, Danny quotes it as Nigeria in early 2002, but in late 2004 Lorne said that if Abe is in Nicaragua, Stranger is in Australia. That makes no geographic sense given the dimensions of Mudos, but it makes me think the original size comparison was with Nicaragua, and Danny misquoted.

The Quintology will leave Mudos. Mudos may originally have been defined by the Mudokon population, but since then I expect they will have naturally and by industrial intervention, spread beyond its borders.

:

()
One million is a very small population figure for a sapient species. Human cities frequently exceed that figure by themselves.

True, but there are tribal human cultures that are a lot smaller than Earth’s great cities, and are a lot similar to current Mudokons in terms of technology, lifestyle, and oppression. Also, since there are multiple sapient races on Oddworld, they can share their social advancements as though a collective, despite being separate species of lower numbers.

:

()
The Oddworld globe on the map depicts Mudos as an absolutely massive landmass.

True, but the map was created by Rob Brown who admits his maps are as much spiritual and reflective of personality as they are physically accurate. There are hints that Mudos has been promoted in terms of geographical size and importance, but until there’s any conclusive evidence, I will go with the physical area quoted by the creator of Oddworld. :)

Zerox 06-06-2007 08:36 AM

We don't know that Mudokons live only in Mudos, though that would presumably be a stronghold or where they originated or something.

Glowing eyes in Gluks and stuff? It may be an adaptation to darker areas to reflect any light back out, like cats, except a little bit different, obviously...

Mudokon numbers must be higher. Though you say that it could be fairly accurate, I would think it would be much higher, given their planet is 10 times the size of Earth, in equivalent speaking that would be an even smaller number, so yeah.

Venks 06-06-2007 11:36 AM

Ajiellyn, security Sligs have no sleeping quarters in facilities or at least any that I know of.
Glukkons expect security Sligs to stay awake every hour of every day over watching slaves. Mudokons aren't the only ones with poor working conditions.
I assume its becuase of this they go to sleep on the job, if they didn't they would never sleep.

Eyes are filled with light-sensitive cells that create action potentials when enough light deforms the photo-pigments in them. We actually have a black layer within our eyes to absorb light that is not taken but the retina, so that it doesn't get reflected within our eyes and distort our vision.

Generating the very thing a sensory organ is there to detect within that very organ is like going around with incense up your nose or bells in your ears.

I got a question.

Question:Can i have some info on the chroniclers sea rex?

OK!Here is your info!

Chroniclers:Chroniclers were to be an accountant or lawyer species of oddworld, having evolved an extra pair of arms to help with, um, uh, accounting, with a total of 4 arms. They are fairly lanky and weak, not getting any real excercise,!Is it enough?

OK, I have another question. Is the GBA version of MO really part of the story line for the Oddworld Quintology?

I'm not sure, seeing as I don't have a GBA. But I really, really doubt it, seeing as it was (apparently) so horribly crap.

Jordan 06-10-2007 10:08 PM

It was supposed to be set after MO, so I doubt it's part of the quintology.

Xavier 06-10-2007 10:24 PM

It's a spin off, it follows MO but you won't need it to understand the whole story of the quintology.

Ajiellyn 06-11-2007 01:38 AM

I found the GameSpeak I was looking for before-- I recorded what I could from Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus (I even forged a Paramite-jumping sound by mixing the sound of picking up a grenade with the sound of Abe landing... xD) If you want any of this GameSpeak, PM me and I'll gladly send it over.

However, what I'm looking for now I have no way to record because I can't play Munch's Oddysee... Does Vykker GameSpeak exist? If so, could anyone possibly record it? I hate to make such a request, I don't have an Xbox to begin with, and it doesn't have to be perfect; if you have a microphone around you could put it to the TV speaker and that'd be great? ^^'

Zozo the Zrilufet 06-11-2007 05:31 AM

:)What colour are Kinto's? 'Cause I've only seen black and white pictures of them.

Wil 06-11-2007 05:33 AM

Vykker GameSpeak is mostly just incoherent mumbling and lame insults. Yeah, GameSpeak took a quality tumble in Munch’s Oddysee.

Kintos are painted a reddish colour in TAoOWI, but until we see them properly, nothing is concrete.

Uhhh, that's Explosivez Mcgee, he's an outlaw:).

Bullet Magnet 06-11-2007 11:25 AM

Yep, that sexy beast is McGee, the same breed of outlaw as the Booty Brothers, and can be found in his lair up in the mines of Beak's Peak.

Shrykull embodies much more power than lightning. Some powers we haven't seen, and much is more subtle than lightning, but you can feel it. The power of Oddworld, its beasts and the mudokons of old, and more. It's hard to pick it up from a brief videogame sprite, especially when framed in lightning, rubble, fire and slig bits, but it is there.

Alex2405 06-11-2007 11:27 AM

Does being an immortal God count as a power?

Does Vykker GameSpeak exist?

If you mean that when you go from the start menu and you go to a list of characters you can practise gamespeak with, like in AO and AE, then I'm afraid not. You only get Abe and Munch. But Vykker gamespeak would be awesome. As would Intern gamespeak (...).

Oh and Alex, I would think that, being a god n' all, Shrykull would have a LOT more powers than the lil' ol' blue sparks. ;)

Alex2405 06-12-2007 07:40 AM

Yes, i tought that too!

By the way, what is the name of the other Glockstar? You know, that crazy guy dressed in green at the Good Ending at Munch's Oddysee, from the auction!

Zerox 06-12-2007 10:57 AM

I assume Shrykull's lightening is a spiritual variety, can anyone clarify this? It's not the same as conventional electric lightening, as it acts too differenly for me to think it could be.

The Shrykull, as we know, is immortal/invincible, and fires LAZOR BEAMIES :D But, it also, as well as mainly vengeance, creation and destruction, as well as fear and love (so it inspires fear through it's power and roars, may be able to create land or life somehow, and create loving bonds or at least friendships or persuade other species (such as Sligs) to change to the Mudokon's side, I dunno. Since it possess the spirit of the two ('main') sacred beasts, so it may be able to summon any nearby or something related to them. We can have no idea. It may also be able to summon an attack from the actual pure god itself up in the heavens, to rain holy lightening on numerous armys of Sligs and decimate them all.
