OWI is doing the 'likes for an image' thing? Please... stop doing that. If you have stuff to show just bloody show it.

But it creates hype and a slightly bigger fan base? I don't know why your so upset about it.

Scrabaniac 11-13-2013 01:30 AM

I think its a good way of free advertising!

Nepsotic 11-13-2013 07:53 AM

Yeah, it is. Havoc's just being 'that guy'.

Scrabaniac 11-13-2013 12:18 PM

Look at these beauts I found on the website! Not sure if you've seen them before but I haven't! Also, The Exoddus pics are looking mighty HD...

Slog Bait 11-13-2013 12:23 PM

That last AE picture isn't new.

Varrok 11-13-2013 12:25 PM

The second isn't new as well

Slog Bait 11-13-2013 12:28 PM

Those AE pictures aren't new

Scrabaniac 11-13-2013 12:35 PM

I know they aren't new, they just look a higher quality than they used to be. I didn't mention anything about 'New'

Slog Bait 11-13-2013 12:36 PM

It was impliiiied

Varrok 11-13-2013 12:45 PM

The second picture was in HQ even before. I used to have it as a wallpaper

Manco 11-13-2013 02:24 PM

They’re all renders from FMVs and at least one has been used in print. JAW have the original assets and probably have access to high quality stills from them, too.

The first one I haven’t seen before.

Crashpunk 11-13-2013 02:49 PM

My best guess are. It might be a early/alt scene in AO where Abe first sees Big Face?

Or

Abe getting the Tattoo on his chest in AE?

Manco 11-13-2013 03:01 PM

It’s definitely not from the AE scar cutscene. The camera is never at that angle or distance from Abe.

My guess is it’s from Abe’s first meeting with Bigface. Maybe it’s an alternate cutscene, maybe it’s a still from NnT.

Slog Bait 11-13-2013 03:05 PM

I was just assuming it was the latter

Those are looking great, I spotted the Ball Car presiously (it's already on TOGG). I'll take the new ones later and upload them too.

My guess is that the first one is new from NnT during a Big Face encounter. The other ones are old material in HQ.

Because of this, I'm not sure if I should go looking for information where there probably isn't any, or wait for someone else to do it, or just wait until OWI reveal whatever it is they're going to reveal.

Their tweets mention they want us to pay close attention to the things they say. I think this is a Half-Life 3 ARG.

El Dango AGAIN 11-14-2013 01:03 AM

I prefer them without that distracting text.

I would not overthink this. They are probably referring to Facebook, Twitter and Oddworld.com.

But my life is really bland and I need this shit.

Yeah, it is. Havoc's just being 'that guy'.

I'm always 'that guy'. But I genuinely don't like these 'give us likes and we'll give you pictures' routines. Why? Because it's a massive 'FUCK YOU' in the faces of those already loyally following the page.

People generally follow a Facebook page because they want to keep up to date on information about that subject. In this case, I 'like' the OWI page to stay updated on Oddworld news.

But instead of getting said news I'm basically getting told to do the PR's job for them or I won't get to see shit. I'm being told "you as a fan need to get the word about our product out there and if you do a good enough job we'll give you a picture as a reward". That's completely backwards and a complete insult to your community.

What exactly am I supposed to do with this?

We've got a New 'n' Tasty image no Mudokon has ever seen before and 5 game codes to give away if we can hit our goal of 25,000 followers. Share this post and enter to win one of those codes!
I need to invest my time and energy into promoting YOUR product on social media? I need to beg my friends to like the page because otherwise we won't get our picture? It's a picture. If you want to promote your product, maybe you should release the picture first and then ask your fanbase to share that.

The codes are a different matter because they are limited. They are something you can win if you promote the product, which is fair game in my opinion and is used across Facebook a lot more than this useless 'like for picture' stuff. You actually get something back for your 'efforts'. That picture you're releasing has no value whatsoever because eventually it will be released anyway, even if they don't hit the like quota. And everyone, including those who didn't even like the page to begin with, will be able to see the picture. That's why I think it's a bad form of publicity.

And besides, EA does the exact same thing with their Facebook pages. OWI doesn't want to be like EA, does it?

Manco 11-14-2013 03:44 AM

I typed up a couple of sincere paragraphs about how social media works but then I remembered it was Havoc

I know how social media works. And there's a difference between asking and forcing your fan base to share your stuff for you.

Phylum 11-14-2013 04:12 AM

There is a difference. Only one of those things is actually possible.

But OWI were asking, and can't force their fanbase to do anything, as much as any other company can't...

IMO it's a harmless way of promoting themselves. It's fair enough to disagree with it (even though I can't understand why), but how would you ask your fans to help promote yourself if you were in OWI's position?

Manco 11-14-2013 04:24 AM

Guys. It’s Havoc. C’mon.

MeechMunchie 11-14-2013 04:24 AM

If you had to force them to talk about your game, I don't think they'd really qualify as "fans".

Hey not all of us take two paragraphs to make a point

It's a business, and the hype machine is an important part of that business. Getting your customer to engage in any meaningful way with your product before its release has a huge impact on sales. Liking their page on Facebook puts them in front of more prospective buyers, and builds anticipation. It isn't unethical, and it's not dishonest. It's marketing, and fairly smart marketing, while being pretty innocuous at the same time.

That being said, I didn't like the page because I don't care.
