Probably because that's one of The Gentlemen from the Buffy episode Hush, which The Operator was pretty clearly modelled on?

Actually it was one of The Silence from the most recent series of Doctor Who, which were most probably inspired by/ripped off from Slendy.

Strike Witch 11-24-2011 01:52 AM

Pretty sure they're based on the Men In Black. You know, the conspiracy theory/urban legend that has been around for decades?

Phylum 11-24-2011 02:04 AM

You forgot the part where they wipe your memories of them.

Crashpunk 11-24-2011 02:25 AM

It was probably inspired by the Slenderman, Like how the Endermen are in Minecraft.

I love James Morrison. I saw him at Generations in Jazz, which is an Australian Jazz competition he runs. He was playing with Gordon Goodwin, which was unbelievable.

He does some really amazing things, like this

That combined with the Grey aliens and made somewhat creepier.

Strike Witch 11-25-2011 04:43 AM

I dunno, Greys are more modern, and the old Men In Black urban legends are pretty creepy by themselves.

Dynamithix 11-25-2011 04:48 AM

There was one for San Andreas, now there's one for GTA IV too.

They've been part of popular culture since the 1960's which, last I checked, predated that episode of Doctor Who.

Besides, I didn't say that your suggestion of Men In Black was wrong; just that they'd combined multiple related concepts.

Phylum 11-26-2011 03:12 PM

Australian history is disgusting.

Not sure if this is the same guy who did the Slayer lights, but anyways, pretty neat.

This is an AI that you can talk to.

DarkHoodness 11-28-2011 07:27 PM

That's really old - It's clever and it has come a long way since it was first released, since it learns from what people say to it. But even now, most of the things it says don't make a lot of sense. Also, they need to somehow make it relate to what was said earlier in a conversation with it.

And it's been 4 years, yet you can still get into a circular argument with it when you call it a robot, which it will deny.

I found this kinda cool:
