But it's fun to make up theories of everything!

Crashpunk 05-14-2011 02:17 AM

Can we have a new catagory in the OWF awards.

Biggest Killjoy? :tard:

I know games have a tendency of not making any sence (Mario's fireballs underwater) because they are games and they don't have to make sence. However I think its fun to debate the games and making theories up about them.

Havoc 05-14-2011 06:03 AM

Making up theories and backstory is how stories like Half-life and Oddworld have evolved. Half of the backstory in those games are made up by the fans over the years.

DarkHoodness 05-14-2011 06:48 AM

You also have to remember that most game storylines aren't entirely consistent or set in stone either, especially the Half-Life series. Just because you saw an event happen in a certain way in a prequel, doesn't mean that its sequel will acknowledge that the event happened in exactly the same way.

Gotta love retroactive continuity.

Mac Sirloin 05-14-2011 11:46 AM

We're not talking about plot. We're talking about the moon.

Dynamithix 05-14-2011 11:49 AM

I just realized we didn't use any spoiler tags. Heh.

Crashpunk 05-14-2011 12:00 PM

I'm pretty sure everyone knows the ending now.

I was responding to your earlier post of:

Why is it people can accept that killing GlaDOS in the first game created a mysterious black hole to the surface no problem, but seeing the moon is unheard of?

But I forgot to reply with quote. Also nobody seems to really complain that GlaDOS went through that hole too and was outside on the parking lot at the end of the first game, but in the second game you mysteriously find her in her chamber. I thought you were referring to that for some reason, no idea why.

Phylum 05-14-2011 06:16 PM

Maybe they moved her back inside?

Havoc 05-15-2011 02:33 AM

Chell was dragged back inside, why couldn't GlaDOS have been?

Phylum 05-18-2011 03:44 AM

I downloaded my free Mac copy. It took fucking hours. It's also the most I've ever downloaded in one hit. I'm impressed that it can run with all the bells and whistles turned on and minimal FPS lag on my 2 year old Macbook. It's not going to like those huge, open areas in the middle of the game, though. I'll have to turn some of the fancy stuff off once I get upto that. Also, the PSN is back online!

So, who wants to play co-op sometime?

Havoc 05-18-2011 06:12 AM

Sure, give a shout on Steam sometimes. Steam ID = TigerXtrm

OANST 05-18-2011 10:16 AM

I bought Portal 2 a couple days ago. It's the first thing I've bought for myself this year. It was fun. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet.

Dynamithix 05-18-2011 10:29 AM

I'm up for co-op if you want to.

Because someone hasn't got the game yet.

*ahem*dixanadu*ahem*

OANST 05-18-2011 10:30 AM

I have it for the 360.

Dynamithix 05-18-2011 10:33 AM

Same.

OANST 05-18-2011 10:36 AM

Send me a friend request then. I don't have a headset at the moment, though.

Dynamithix 05-18-2011 10:38 AM

You are my friend on Live. Ronzie4Lulz is my GT.

Silly OANST.

Steamer_KING 05-18-2011 11:01 AM

Anyone has P2 for PS3?

Phylum 05-18-2011 10:35 PM

Yes.

I recommend using the free PC/Mac download, though. I cannot stress how much more enjoyable it is with a mouse.

Mac Sirloin 05-19-2011 04:39 PM

I cannot stress how much of an insignificant fucking difference it is.

I let a friend of mine borrow my copy of Portal 2 a week or so ago. Big mistake. He's a little weenie who can't play for more than 20 minutes at a time without getting headaches, so it's taking him for fucking EVER to beat it. I've also never seen anyone quite as slow at Portal puzzles than him. I mean, it is NOT THAT HARD to understand that the little bouncy panels do. Jesus.

I really want him to complete it (it took me less than a week, and then about two days to play through it all again) so I can play it again, to the point where I've bitten the bullet and am going through both the Orange Box version of Portal and still Alive to get all the achievements. That's being a fan. Not little baby stories concocted while driving a little baby car around St. Babysburg.

Phylum 05-20-2011 03:33 AM

I cannot stress how much better I find it. Maybe it's just me, but a mouse is much more intuitive for me.

I just played online for the first time with a total stranger. I barely used the chat (the one time that wasn't saying hello was to apologise for killing them) and we hardly ever misunderstood eachother. The gestures and ping systems work brilliantly.

My partner was a lot better than me. I think they'd finished the courses we did (mass and velocity, team building) before. GLaDOS wasn't hesitant to let me know that she preferred them to me and that I was the dumber of the two.

I love the online system. It works brilliantly. If I communicate that easily with a total stranger, it should be excellent when I play with a friend.

Ridg3 05-20-2011 03:50 AM

I agree with Phylum. The mouse gives you a lot more freedom and speed when it comes to puzzle solving and it makes a lot more sense. Portal, to me, seems as though it was built for PC's and was ported to consoles just to please consoleheads.

Mac Sirloin 05-20-2011 04:22 AM

You two are so cute with your delusions. Especially that 'consoleheads' remark. I mean, it's inconceivable that they'd want to, you know, make more money by broadening the availability of their game. Or to please their fans. Oooh, here's an idea: maybe you can find some way to justify how Valve nickels and dimes PC gamers for everything they've got with expressions. Go for it, kiddo.

Ridg3 05-20-2011 04:34 AM

And I think I did mention that they ported it to consoles to please their fans because, now keep up with this, not everyone has the money for a high spec computer to play it on and some of the fans are console users. I wouldn't be so niave to think that Valve is raping PC users for money with their games seeing as someone can just go clickity click on a torrent site and get it for free.

MeechMunchie 05-20-2011 05:31 AM

Mac, now you're just being stupid. Which is unusual for you.

Mac Sirloin 05-20-2011 06:21 AM

Oh, so I'm not allowed to be annoyed with the way people ceaselessly spout off on the superiority of a Mouse (or keyboard, or controller. This issue goes across the board for me) when it's such an arbitrary and inconsequential difference? Of course, how dare I express annoyance at that kind of dumb, needless shit. Surely that makes me stupid, getting annoyed at something that annoys me.

Kindly get over your mice and keyboards, children.

It's the strangest thing, but whenever I start talking to people on the internet about Valve games, I get really nasty and mean. I have no idea why, but any opinion that conflicts with mine just sets me right off. I don't mean to be so cunty, it's just, you know, you're annoying me. Poor excuse, but the closest thing to justification I can offer is that I'm such a big fan of their games, which is of course no excuse at all. I recognize that the mouse is typically advantageous for FPS games, but Portal is the ONE exception.

Also, YOU'RE stupid. Butthead.

MeechMunchie 05-20-2011 06:26 AM

Oh, so they're not allowed to be happy with the way they find the mouse works better for them? Of course, how dare they express approval at that kind of useful game-enhancing development. Surely that makes them worthy of berating, being pleased at something that pleases them.

It does make a difference, that's why they're able to prefer one over the other.

But hey, isn't it stupid how some peple like green more than blue? They're both colours, aren't they? You can use them both to paint your walls, why should personal taste come into it?

Kindly get over your mice and keyboards, children.

We will when they stop being so much better.

MeechMunchie 05-20-2011 06:35 AM

That too. Mice are smoother, simpler, easier to forget about and slightly faster. Plus they leave a hand free for... stuff.
