George Thorgood - Bad to the Bone
Muddy waters - Mannish Boy Awesome! Makes me feel like a MAN. |
Charlie Parker is worth listening to. So is John Coltrane. The both of them were fantastic jazz saxophonists.

Fucking hell the Dead Texan is so good. I don't know why I overlooked them all this time.
http://www.myspace.com/thedeadtexan ambient. and now for something completely different: a really insane demonstration of laptapping guitar. I did this about a year ago, much less impressively... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=81918559!!!!! |
It might be worth listening to Prince Buster if you like Ska. He's awesome. My favorite was 'Burke's Law'.
Just the other day, I came across my old Beatles LP. Trouble is, I don't own a vinyl anymore. |

I've been getting into Bullet for my Valentine and Seether as well, lately. Especially the new BfmV album Scream Aim Fire.
|
The Beatles.
'Nuff said. |

I fucking win. |
Mojo, don't take this the wrong way, but for quite a while I've noticed you have similar musical tastes to that of a 15 year old boy.
anywae the beatles suck lol. American idol a few days ago, they could only do beatles songs, and it was even more boring than it usually is. |
:
BLASPHEMY! They invented awesome. You just aren't listening to the good stuff. |
Indeed they may have invented awesome, but since then awesome has grown in a trillion other ways far surpassing them.
I don't listen to music in context, I listen to music that I think sounds good. No "THEY WERE REVOLUTIONARY IN THEIR DAY" bands for me unless they sound timeless. The Beatles do not sound timeless. Nor do the following bands: Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd etcetc |

But seriously, what the hell has age to do with that? It's like saying: "Omg, you listen to Emo, therefore you must be cutting yourself!" Or: "OMG, you're listening to Rap, therefore you must be a pimp! It's just a matter of musical taste. |
I've been loving Daft Punk lately.
|
Daft Punk is ace. See a few pages back for a cool vid :P.
|
Mmm. I just finished watching their Interstella 5555 videos on youtube. Now, if all anime were like that, then we'd live in a better world. I have a friend who's getting me ALIVE in return for getting him D-Sides by the Gorillaz. Anyone get that album besides me? What do you think of it?
|
:
don't worry, I have the musical tastes similar to a wanker. |

cranked the System of a Down for the first in a very long time. BYOB is not as heavy as it once was. Seriously they need to turn the distortion on to at least 7. Mabye it's because I got into sludge/drone since I last listened to them, but the guitar sounds like plastic. still good though.
The new Suffocate for Fuck Sake came out recently. It's the most mindblowing album of the past 6 months. I know they're band name sounds like some shitty deathcore act, and I hate physically speaking it, but man they're good. Plugplugplug http://www.myspace.com/suffocateforfucksake . If you've got 102 minutes to listen to this album in it's entirety, you should. Postrock + screamo + ambient. |

Yes, how is that hard to grasp? Bullet For My Valentine, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, etcetc. I'd trawl through the pages of this thread to show you more examples to back my statement up, but it's really petty, so I'll only do it if you still are completely lost.

No, I know what I posted, I just don't see how musical taste has something to do with age?
As if I'm forbidden to listen to those bands because I'm too old? If I listen to classical music, should I be told that I'm listening to "old-people-music"? And if some dude just happens to like, say, Destiny's Child, is he listening to girly music? My point is, it's not your age that defines your taste in music, it's usually your background, and the genres you come in contact with. I mean, would a 15 year old boy, whose older brother, amongst others, always listen to rap and R&B, who attends at rap-battles, and breathes the whole atmosphere, so to speak, would he listen to bands like BFMV and BB? No, he'd probably be listening to the same crap. The same goes for people who are usually in contact with the alternative branch, or pop. Hell, kids who go to classy schools will probably listen to a lot of classical music. The thing is, you probably listen to whatever you grew up with. I grew up with friends who listened to bands like Queen, Led Zepplin, and The Dire Straits. So naturally, I liked Queen, Led Zepplin and The Dire Straits. Later on, I started hanging out with people who listened to music that was a lot heavier. And the type of music that all those bands mentioned earlier play, just makes me feel comfortable. It's not like I'm jumping the bandwagon or anything. I like the music for the music (even more for the actual music than the lyrics themselves). One last remark: Does Metallica classify as music for 15 year olds? That must be, according to your analogy, cause it's about the same style as the rest. And by the way, no offense taken, it's just that your analogy is... Well... Meh. |
Metallica is not the same style as Breaking Benjamin and BFMV, though is very commonly liked by 15 year old boys.
I think we're getting into the whole STEREOTYPES DON'T EXIST vs. STEREOTYPES EXIST arguement. Ok, let me rephrase it slighty so there's a little less butthurt for you: you have musical tastes similar to that of a 15 year old boy, whose background is that of somewhat of a psuedo rebel, fairly well off, may of had one hardship in his life to make him turn to this hardass music; likes metal but he's not kvlt enough for black or death, so he might like one melodic death act, or he might not be hard enough for that. If not, he will listen to popmetal/what is modernly defined as screamo. random bands that come to mind that you would probably like if you dont already * = bands if you are the one who is hard enough for some melodic death. if blank, just the normal shit *coheed and cambria *job for a cowboy *killswitch engage *enter shikari *norma jean *in flames *evergreen terrace killswitch engage korn atreyu greenday funeral for a friend avenged sevenfold bullet for my valentine lost prophets machine head staind disturbed hoobastank still remains breaking benjamin papa roach madina lake HIM three days grace hinder etcetcetcetc. You really didn't need to make a little sourpuss about this, it was merely a passing observation... and hey, if theres a band on that list you haven't heard of, look them up, you might like them |
That is an awesome stereotype, I like quite a few of those bands, and I'm 15!
