System of a Down, anyone? I've been getting back into them recently after not listening for a while. I quite enjoy the album Hypnotize. Particually Lonely Day and Vicinty of Obscenity.

That album hurts my soul. Badly.

'm sry

Has anyone heard of Cute is What We Aim for? I just ask because they're from my hometown and a few of the members used to be in a good band that never made it big. I don't like the music, but I'm just kinda curious to see if they're popular in other places in the U.S./World.

Fez 09-01-2006 02:22 PM

I've heard of them...

TERRIBLE SCREAMO MUSIC.

It's like radio static...

Good to see you don't fall for the bullshit overseas.

You and me both, John.

Ugh, every song I've heard by SOAD sounds so sameish as their other stuff.

What do you guys think of ACDC? Frikkin half of my grade is cahoots for them. Seriously, where's the appeal?

Statikk HDM 09-02-2006 06:31 PM

Angus Young is a good working man's guitarist, but a little sloppy.
The vocals fit the music very well.
They're just a good solid hard rock band that knows how to have a good time and they've put out a ton of famous songs.
Big Balls, The Jacks, Whole Lotta Rosie, Hell's Bells, Back in Black, Highway to Hell, Thunderstruck, Shoot to Thrill, Have Drink on Me, those are just hits off the top of my head. There are plenty of shitty bands that people could latch on to, be grateful that all the youngens aren't into As I Lay Dying and bullshit like that.

Guess it's just down to preference. I feel the same way about The White Stripes. Either you like the formula or ye doesn't.

OANST 10-11-2006 07:20 AM

the new Califone album came out yesterday. I recommend buying it. It's the greatness.

Luskan 10-11-2006 08:24 AM

I tend to be more of a rocker. I like most bands..system of a down are okay, but don't appeal to me that much.

I don't mind stuff like johnny cash aswell..he has some catchy tunes.

Statikk HDM 10-11-2006 09:30 AM

The new Vader album Impressions in Blood is fantastic. Hunt down a copy if you enjoy death metal even just a teensy tiny bit.
The new Motorhead album Kiss of Death, much love for that one too. Motorhead has been putting out a consistently good product for about 30 years now, they rarely slip.
Ghostface Killah's Fischscale is a real tight, dark rap album. Best offering from a Wu Tang member in years.
And those are the albums that are stuck in my head as of right...
NOW!

ANN NEELY 10-11-2006 11:15 AM

What do you guys think of ACDC?
good stuff. not to good, but still good enough for me to call it good.

deep purple, the doors, led zeppelin. <<-very good
plus sting here and there....
and iggy pop ofcourse...
nirvana probably....

''Motorhead '' <<-don't like

Statikk HDM 10-11-2006 12:37 PM

Nirvana over Motorhead?
Well, you can't expect somebody to get it all right.

OANST 10-11-2006 03:18 PM

Just because Nirvana got way overhyped doesn't mean that they weren't a very good band. Because they were. Motorhead on the other hand..........

Arxryl 10-11-2006 06:48 PM

I chose "other." some of my favorite music comes from video games. Many songs I have heard from games is very inspiring, and has a definite feeling to it. It's great to listen to while typing stories, drawing, day dreaming, and many other things.
As for favorite bands, I like to listen to some Linkin Park, (not all of it, some of it just sounds the same after a while,) Weird Al Yankovich, some Nightmare Before Christmas, and other random songs that I enjoy.

Werd. Motorhead is like anal sex with a pineapple.

Things on the ol' empefree: Labradford. Sigur Ros. Tom Waits*. Roger Eno. Primus. Modest Mouse.

*Been a fan for a bit, but only just got around to getting Mule Variations.

Nemo 10-11-2006 08:18 PM

I'm a hard core rocker, since I was little. My dad would always play it at the old apartment.
But I do listen to hip-hop and rap, a little bit. I'm also in lurve with classical, as it is calming and... Yeah, calming.
I pretty much listen to anything with a good beat. Even the old Mr. Sandman, and Lollipop.

oddveteran93 10-11-2006 09:05 PM

Does anyone listen to Seether? They've got really good songs and their lead singer Shaun Morgan has a good voice.

Statikk HDM 10-12-2006 06:59 AM

Nirvana/Motorhead is the new Seinfeld/Friends.
How could you have anal sex with a pineapple? Do they even have anuses?

Kimon 10-12-2006 08:26 AM

Insertion of a pineapple. Into anus. I think that's what he was GHOEN 4 lol

Seether is sucks. But they are a guilty pleasure of mine. And yes, the lead singer sounds like a much less angstful Cobain. DAG.

Statikk HDM 10-12-2006 09:44 AM

It was just a joke. I know how to have anal sex with pineapples, thankyouverymuch.

:Idol: 10-12-2006 09:48 AM

ah pineapple.....

never heard a thing about seather and WTF is seinfeld?
I've said ''nirvana probably...'' i'm not their fun or something.
Also guns 'n' roses are great thing for me (i'm pointing at civil war right now)

Statikk HDM 10-12-2006 09:59 AM

You never heard that Seinfeld/Friends thing? How in the 90s you could ask somebody "So, what do you think is funnier, Seinfeld or Friends?"
If you liked the opposite show to the other person you could almost guarantee that it would be hard to relate to their sense of humor. I'm saying that Nirvana/Motorhead is like that. I'm going to have a very hard time relating to someone musically if they like Nirvana more than Motorhead. Though the Nirvana/Pearl Jam thing is more like Seinfeld/Friends.
/I like Pearl Jam over Nirvana for the record.

OANST 10-12-2006 11:23 AM

There is also the even more classic Elvis vs. Beatles. You can like both but noone likes them both equally.

toxicity 10-12-2006 04:28 PM

The new album by "The Mars Volta" is frikkin incredible.

Hmm, haven't posted here in a while.

So far, the only new band my ears have picked up have been the White Stripes. But I'll make a little list just for the hell of it.

General rock (includes indie, folk, etc.): The Band, White Stripes, Joni Mitchell, and the Gorillaz? I would have included the Olivia Tremor Control, but I still need to get off my ass and buy Black Foliage. Probably the most unique group I've ever heard.
Composers (includes film, classical, etc.): Maurice Ravel, George Bizet, Danny Elfman, Howard Hanson, Thomas Newman, Ennio Morricone, Luis Enrique Bacalov, and Key Poulan to some extent.

Stranger's Girl 10-13-2006 05:26 AM

Some new people that I've heard since I voted on the thread:

Heartland. They're debut song "I Loved Her First" is awesome! It's a sweet song.

Taylor Smith. Her debut song "Tim McGraw" like heartland's, is awesome. It's very sweet.

Some new songs I heard:

"I Loved Her First"
"Tim McGraw"
"My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw

Yes, I'm a country fan...so sue me...-_-"

OANST 10-13-2006 05:57 AM

I think I could. I think you can sue for that.
