Me and my brother rescued an old acoustic piano from a skip last night. We don't know how the fuck it ended up in there (although it is an unusually small piano - all the keys are there, but the body's not as big as I'd usually expect), but we had a job on getting it out. It's great. It's in a bit of a state, but it'll be just grand when we've got it all fixed up. It's out of tune and stuff, but we'll soon see to that. It plays just fine.
I've a recording of it we made ten minutes after we...

A Message for Molluck's Assistant and Others Who May be Interested

I have just received "Dances with Cows" by Dave Louapre and Dan Sweetman. Graphic novels are not usually my kind of thing, but I do find these quite funny. "A Cotton Candy Autopsy" was great, but this is, in my opinion, even better (despite the lack of pyschotic clowns). It's about two cows who find their friend hanging in a slaughterhouse, and decide to escape the farm. It's fucking nuts. I've bought the only one on the UK Amazon, but there are four more on the US Amazon.
If you're not aware...

Last night, some little shit attempted to vandalise my phone cable. I thought I heard something at about 12:30 when I went for a drink, but I assumed that it was just the house creaking. Funnily enough (and I didn't realise this at the time), the noises stopped after I turned on the kitchen light, so I wonder if they saw the light and ran off.

They had broken the clips holding the cable to the wall, and had clearly tried to yank the cable out of the wall. Either they're little vandals,...

My mam asked me to go fetch her make up from the bedroom, so I did. Only problem is, I looked in the wrong draw and found a clitoral vibrator, at first thinking it was lipstick. I sound like a fucking prude, but my initial reaction was to hide under the stairs and break down. I've always thought of her as lovely, asexual mam. Now I have this terrifying image in my head, and it is fucking horrible.

Some malware's come out of nowhere, and it's taking me forever to get rid of. I am very fed up. If it's not one thing, it's another.

In more interesting news, my nephew's got right into trains. It's great. We took him to Leeds station, and a little lass tried to pull him.

Fucking Hell

Another one on my nephew and his latest phase. Sadly, it seems that his new box set (that is was a little late from Amazon) has rekindled his love for Watership Down, and because this rendition is spread over three fucking series, he's quoting things from it for every situation under the Sun (including belters like "slow down, you great pillock", and others that I can't think of because there are myriad quotes that he now frequently uses). Now, I remember when this first came out, but we were all...

Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children

I'm sure that you've heard me expressing my like for the music of Mr. Bungle some time or another. I first found out about them after a Canadian friend had sent me a graphic novel via post (this was when I was about 21 or something) called A Cotton Candy Autopsy. It was about a group of pyschotic clowns who burnt down the big top and ran off in a car with a freakish two-headed lady. Some of the artwork in it was used on Bungle's first CD, which I found out in '92 after I lent one of my friends the...

Ragtime Makes Me Very Happy

Had a nice trip to Leeds on the train yesterday. I bought several CDs, including a Scott Joplin compilation that had many recordings that I have never heard on it (it had a very interesting version of Pineapple Rag on it, which was extended by about two minutes, and the left hand part on the strain that it usually ends on was altered to make more of an "oom-pah" sound. It was also raised a bit in pitch, but that could have just been the recording).
I also bought a Zappa compilation that I...

Thank Goodness

My nephew's now occupied not with his tape any more, but the DVD we bought him. We had decided that if he was going to take an interest in Watership Down, he'd take an interest in the film instead of the series that I had I explained I am sick of. The DVD arrived this morning, and he fucking loves it. Luckily for us, even more so than that bloody television version. Unfortunately, after viewing a scene with the seagull, "Piss off!" is now part of his vocabulary, despite the fact that we told him...
