Pissing and selling or moaning and letting?

I really can't wait until I go back up to uni. I'm really going to celebrate once I'm there and my mum and granddad have left. It will mark the end of the worst summer of my life, although not all the hard work, and not even all the hard decisions, will have been made or done. More joyously it will mark the end of the air that's currently hanging in the relationship between me and my mum.

This is not an ominous thing, it's simply a difference in opinion. As my mum said coming home tonight "I think you're making the wrong decision." This came out of absolutely no where, after several minutes of silence. I pointed out that "I haven't made a decision," and that was the end of that conversation. My voice was raised ever so slightly, you see, and that's a big no-no in our household. It's not frowned upon, it's just something that never happened. So when it does happen no one has the slightest idea what to do with it.

My mum things I should sell my dad's house, and use the money to pay off the mortgage and the bank debts. There'll be so-and-so much left over. I would like to explore the possibility of letting the house out. This would generate a small income, while also letting me hang onto the house while the property markets improve. Could be well, well worth it in the long run, but I need all the repayment/interest/etc figures. Until then I'm not going to make my mind up one way or the other. I've been trying to lay hints that I'm entirely up for selling the house now if it's the easiest option, but mum, as a parent, fails to understand anything and continues having an air of desperation that I'm making the wrong decision, and assuming I can't hear her when she pisses about it on the phone in the evenings when I'm trying to watch University Challenge or whatever. Which, child that I am, makes me more determined to investigate the letting avenue.

And while it's true my dad's girlfriend gave me the idea of hanging onto the house, expressing this as "putting ideas into my head" is misleading on two fronts. And yet they seem to get on fine when we're at family get togethers (which my dad's girlfriend is always now at).

Anyway, I'm slightly tipsy, because the prospect of spending a whole evening with a whole family full of opinions was too much to face sober.

It's only the wrong decision because it's not the decision she would make.

Let the house. Have a property management company handle it for you though and take their cut, it will be well worth not having to deal with tenants directly, if there are any problems or shirking of any kind on the agreement.

BTW I think the latest picture of you is incredibly flattering; more so than the pic of you in the pub you're using or wherever that is.

Thank you. But I have reservations about using a photo from my dad's interment to make myself look better. Especially if I'm cropping out my dad.

I would also advise with the letting. You get the best of every situation- you get incoming capital, you hang onto the house as either a place to return after study or a place to sell when the markets improve (thus doing as your mum wants long term only making more money out of it), and you always have somewhere to crash if need be. The only thing you have to worry about is the lettors- I know people who let villas/houses out and theyve never had any real problems, but there's always the concern they may not take the best care of the house.

Let the house, wait for the market to improve.

I think now, during the fincancial crisis is the worst time to sell a house. I bet the prices have dropped(but I do not know this).

Anyway it seems like you have it tough right now I think you should follow your heart and insticnts. What choice will you regret less? What choice do you feel, inside yourself, would make you the most happy. This is about you, not anyone else. Your happiness comes before anyone else's cos only you know how to best make yourself happy. This is a selfish world, and you will need to be selfish in order to do whats right for you.

Holy fuck. Today we went shopping for a new oven. My dad's oven broke a couple of years ago and he never got it fixed, replaced, or chucked out. We removed it to measure the space the new oven had to fit into, and left it on the floor. A bit in the way considering the small size of the kitchen, but doing any damage to it or the tiles, and not putting the cats in any danger of, say, trapping themselves inside anything.

So my mum asks if we can go up the road to put it back in its cubby. That's fine with me, it's not even heavy, but I don't immediately understand the point of going through the hassle, so I ask what that point is. Big fucking mistake, mum must be on Uptight Pills. After asking three or four times just to get an answer (because "it's on the floor" is not an answer to "why do we absolutely have to pick it off the floor this second?"), it comes, but is delivered as an impression of Stressy McBlurtRant.

Whatever. Less than 24 hours to go. Shame three or four of them are in a car. On the plus side I'll be unconscious for about 10 of them.
