Herro,

So, three months left before I grad-yee-ate from sixth form, can't wait to get out to be honest, leave behind the alcoholics, the fakers, the don't-give-but-takers. Any way, almost at the point where I'll be shipping off to university, providing I get the grades. I need AAB and I have AAC after improving upon my E in Microeconomics by a measly 6 UMS marks, effectively failing 1/2 my economics AS for a second time in a row. Fortunately I got an A in Macro so I'm sitting on a C. Still better than George Osborne though.

All that aside, I'm deferring a year so I can get together some cash. Basically I need a job that pays about £8000+ in a year. Thing is, A levels don't really leave you with a skill set you can apply to anything but university so I'm struggling to find work I can do. So far I've been looking at becoming a full time cleaner (janitor) or perhaps a receptionist/typist. Can anyone think of any other jobs that don't require a heap of experience and don't involve hard labour...since Christmas I've stopped working out and I can barely left my shopping from the car to the house at the moment!

Hmm, in other news, it's been a funny few weeks for me, I've been in pretty good spirits (touch wood) for quite some time thankfully. I really feel a confidence boost in that I seem to be practising what I preach about not worrying so much and just going out of my way to meet new people. I've also been spending less of my life on my laptop frittering time away, it's a small decrement but anything counts. Ironically, I've been gaming a lot less in the last few months, shortly before Mac made his scathing blog actually, that's given me more free time to spend doing other shit...yay other shit! So, fingers crossed for exams, hope y'all having a good time too.

Remember, if you could throw me a few job ideas then just post 'em below. =)

I put an advert out on Craigslist asking for work and the only person that replied was a male escort firm. Not gonna lie I did have to think for a while before turning it down....on the grounds that you're not going to get any good poon as a male escort...judging by the sort of blokes that go for female hookers any way...

Telemarketing is an idea actually, the only thing is I don't know how good I'd be at holding my tongue when I'd have to inevitably talk to idiots - I can imagine I'd be fired in months.

If you are ever going to work in the service sector you need to develop a service persona. It's how a hundred million retail staff manage to keep themselves sane.

You lose your cool and yell at a customer, you get fired and need to grow up. That's the way the world works.

No I know that, I'm not one to rage at people, but I'm very sarcastic and jaded by nature and that wouldn't transpose well to a service sector job. That's not to say I'm above it of course, if at shop job is what pays for my degree then I'll do it.

I had a conversation with an eight year old girl in the doctor's waiting room today that was more fulfilling than any I've had with my customers (And let's face it, most of my co-workers) thus far.

"But that's not the kind of job I want" is not the proper attitude for someone in your position. Also, it's easier to find better work when you already have a job.

I didn't say it wasn't the job I want, I'd actually not mind a job in John Lewis on the shop floor because I like selling. If I got a job in carpets or something - like my Dad used to do decades ago, I'd be pretty happy. The thing with phones specifically is that I have trouble talking over the phone with people, I think because I prefer to talk to people face to face, it's a bit of a pathetic excuse but that's the additional reason why I wouldn't want to do it. In fact it's one of two jobs I really would be worried about doing.

I completely understand. Don't worry, I'm like that too. You just need training and practice.

It's actually quite easy to speak on the phone on behalf of a company, much easier than speaking for yourself.

Really, don't sweat it too much.

I tend to have better conversations on the phone. My father and I learned more about each other on the phone than from eighteen years of living together.

I just find it so awkward, the worst thing is getting called by those people trying to sell you stuff because I find it rude to tell them I'm not interested and hanging up is just completely out of the question. I just leave my home phone to ring now, if they leave a message then I'll get back to them, if not then they're probably an 0800 number.

I was actually looking at applying for an apprentiship with the Financial Times, you have to write an article for them and the winner gets a £4000 bursary and then you go live abroad for three months training in journalism at a Financial Times headquarters. Unfortunately I don't think it would be a viable way of spending my time off because I think it's unpaid and I imagine that living on £4000 for three months - paying for rent, travel and food with that, might be un-feasible, let alone thinking about bringing anything back home for university. Shame though, I'd love an opportunity like that.

We'll see how it goes. It's funny how few unskilled jobs there actually are, I must say I was a little bit naive and quite surprised subsequently.

This, surprisingly. My phone-phobia got much better after three months doing customer support.

But, yes, I understand why you think telemarketing would feel shitty.

My dad is great with telemarketers. He follows every claim to its logical conclusion. Just this morning someone called claiming that he'd downloaded viruses onto his computer that they could sort out. His response was magnificent to behold.

My dad was once told he'd won a free phone, so he asked when he could collect it. When they tried to tell him he couldn't just do that he got into a big argument about the semantics of a free phone.
