I find it interesting trying to guess the meaning of road signs I’m not familiar with. Especially since I don’t drive. I failed the second question on the signs quiz because I didn’t know what the fuck a ‘two-way left turn’ was supposed to be and concluded it was a bullshit answer somebody hadn’t put enough thought into making any sense.

A two-way left turn? You turn left and… there are two ways? o.O

Okay, for one thing remember that a left turn in Ontario is equivalent to a right turn in the UK; thus crossing the oncoming traffic.

The sign means that if you want to do a left turn, go in to the middle lane, wait until it's safe and then continue. But cars coming the other direction down the road can also pull in to the middle lane to do left turns across your line of traffic. Capish?

That was exactly what I first assumed looking at the sign before reading the options. However ‘two-way left turn’ did not sound like a good description of such a road feature.

Yes, that is a good point. But what would you call it?

I wouldn’t know what to call it, but having trying a Google image search I see it’s a pretty standard name for the feature. However, there is no exact comparison on British roads, so that also puts me at a disadvantage.

I never finished the test because I saw there were 50 questions and I can rarely maintain my interest for that long, especially since you have to do it one sodding question at a time.
