Shirtless bare-knuckled boxing match.
Young, sexy Watson.
God why?

Because the West ruins everything, from timeless classics to the Silent Hill series.

They're practically ruined Holmes and Watson's characters from their first televised appearance. Holmes is not supposed to be pretty and Watson is not supposed to be dumb.

Also, the crushing irony of the fact that they tried to turn a character famed for his powers of deduction into an action hero.

what WoF said. majorly. and i haven't even read the books, but i've read enough articles on the original characters to know when they're being misportrayed.

I loved the old books, and my favorite Watson was Edward Hardwicke. Watson wasn't stupid in the films he was in.
I quite enjoyed the new Sherlock Holmes film as a film itself, but neither of the characters behaved as I would have liked to expect. It's a film that I enjoyed, but not one that I'd go out of my way to see again.

I found them to be much more like the book characters than any other incarnation I have seen.

Of course, I've seen Sherlock and the Doctor, Cloned Sherlock and Android Watson, Sherlock and Well's Time Traveler, Sherlock and Well's MArtian Tripods, and Sherlock and zombies. Sherlock Holmes is very much public property now.

Incidentally, I had a great uncle Sherlock Holmes.
