Blog etiquette be darned, I have good news.

Things are finally going my way.

I've landed a job as a writer, been working for about a month now. The wages are fantastic, it's hard to go by hourly wages due to the nature of the work and its payment, but it's probably something close to £13~ an hour. For a 17 year old not even out of sixth form, that's an amazing amount of money to be making.

For the first time in my entire life I'm seeing more money come into my hands on average than what is going out. What's even better than that is that I'm literally doing my dream job, not everyone can wake up and look forward to going to work, but I actually count down the days until my next job will come through with excitement. I love writing, pretty much anything, from whopping great essays to SEO product reviews. It's the start of a path towards a literary career, and while I'm not doing anything ground breaking, I'm doing something I love.

To compound this recent success, I might be conducting and writing up an interview with the CEO of moonpig.com some time next week. I was asked to do this by some teachers, the fact that out of all the potential people they could have asked, I was amongst them, gave me such a confidence boost at time when I've been worried about quite a number of things.

I'm in a good place right now, despite having recently got braces and catching a throat cold, infection...thing. It's unusual for me to be this happy, and I'm enjoying being alive one day at a time.

There's someone here I have to thank though, perhaps unwittingly, he's helped me get on the first rung of the business ladder. Darkhoodness, if you hadn't shown me People Per Hour, I wouldn't have been motivated to follow this through, I wouldn't have a job and I probably wouldn't be in as good a frame a mind as I am now, in fact I know I wouldn't be. Because of one kind suggestion, I'm back in work and loving living. So thank you. Very much.

I hope everyone is equally as happy, I love you all.

That's more than twice what I earn fending off the amorous advances of eighty-year-olds. I'm utterly miserable.

My luck turned out good recently since a company has given me one of their spare servers for free. It's an IBM TotalStorage NAS 100 I think and is really damn heavy. I checked it out today and opened it up, it seemed to have 4 RAID technology hard drives in it totalling to 440GB. I suppose that's more than enough for my network.

Only problem is it wouldn't turn on and I determined the PSU box was broken so I'll have to replace it for £25~.

Pretty good knowing that the company themselves trust me something like this and know that I could fix such a thing (they said it wouldn't power on but didn't tell me the issue).

I've also got a 2 hour writing test in English coming up and I'm not worried about it. We have to write 700-1000~ words but I seem to manage writing over that within 45mins. I'm having to cut down on details unfortunately as a result. I'm too used to writing funny stories for my class to read so I end up writing too much.

I hope you’ve posted an entry similar to this one in your professional (i.e. public-facing) blog. Optimism and love for what you do like that is nectar to potential clientèle.

That's a good call, Manco, thanks, I should get on that tomorrow.

Actually I should thank all of you as well, everyone who visits/ has visited my blog has allowed me to climb a few pages of Google, the more traffic it gets, the sooner I'll get notice from more one time contracts. =)

I've already said my congratulations, but seriously well done, mate. Glad things are finally looking up for you! Keep at it and I'll buy your published material, even if it's someting absurd like a user's guide.

Congrats - £13 an hour is a lot for anyone in this day and age, let alone a 17 year old. Count yourself lucky.

And also, no problem. PPH was something I was told about once and thought it may be the sort of thing you were looking for. I'm glad you found it useful.

I spend countless hours a week doing my music stuff and I've barely seen more than a pittance. In the last six years I would have seen ~$80 and spent literally >100 times that.

Lucky bastard. It's good to be able to earn money doing what you love. I hope to one day get to a point where I can live off of music.
